Design of New Reaction Fields for Spherical Polypyrrole Particle Synthesis

Summary: Polypyrrole conducting polymers have been investigated widely for various applications because of their thermal and environmental stability and good electrical conductivity. Using chemical oxidative polymerization for the synthesis of polypyrrole particles, the reaction rate is very fast. In this study, we designed two new reaction fields for the synthesis of spherical polypyrrole nanoparticles. In the first system, oxidative polymerization of monomer droplets infused in a water/oil (W/O) emulsion reaction field was investigated. The second system employed dispersed monomer in an aqueous solution with a low concentration of oxidant in which polymerization was augmented by ultrasonic irradiation. Effective control of the reaction rate was important for enabling the synthesis of fine spherical polypyrrole particles.     

Development of high resolution resonance ionization mass spectrometry for trace analysis of 93mNb

⁹³Nb(n, n′)^93mNb reaction allows retrospective estimation of integrated fast neutron dose in nuclear reactor. We proposed isomer-selective trace analysis of ^93mNb by Resonance Ionization Mass Spectrometry (RIMS) combined with a gas-jet atomic source and an injection locked Ti:Sapphire laser system operated at several kHz. Resonant ionization spectroscopy of Nb in gas-jet using Ti:Sapphire laser was demonstrated.     

A Self-Bracketing Search Technique for the Classical Dispersion Analysis of Infrared Reflectance Data

If an observed infrared reflectance band corresponds to a harmonic vibrational mode, then it is feasible by means of well known dispersion relationships to calculate reflectance values R_c for an ideal reflectance curve that agrees with the curve obtained from experimentally observed R_x values. The technique of comparing R_c with R_x has been denoted as “classical dispersion,” or CD analysis. In the obtaining of dispersion parameters, such as oscillator strength (S_j), damping constant (Y_j), and resonant frequency (v_j) through CD analysis of infrared reflectance data, a number of methods have been used.     

Measurement of the vector A y and tensor A yy , A xx , A xz analyzing powers for the dd → 3H p reaction at 200 MeV

The data on the vector A _y and tensor A _yy , A _xx , A _xz analyzing powers for the d → ³H p reaction have been obtained at the energy of the initial deuteron of 200MeV in the angular range of 0–95 degrees in the c.m.s. The calculations performed within one-nucleon exchange model with the use of the standard three-nucleon bound state wave functions fail to reproduce the data on the tensor analyzing powers.     

A versatile scaffold for facile synthesis of fluorescent cyano-substituted stilbenes

Here we report the facile derivatization of a cyano-substituted stilbene into higher π-extended analogues. The cyano-substituted stilbene, which serves as a synthetic scaffold, has a bromo group and a formyl group on its 4- and 4′-position of the phenylene rings and thus readily undergoes selective transformation into other functional groups using various simple organic reactions. The resultant π-conjugated molecules that contain a cyano-substituted stilbene skeleton exhibit fluorescence in solution and in the solid state.     

Rhodium(I)‐Catalyzed Enantioselective Cyclization of Enynes by Intramolecular Cleavage of the Rh−C Bond by a Tethered Hydroxy Group

Rhodium(I)‐catalyzed enantioselective intramolecular cyclization of enynes having a hydroxy group in the tether was investigated, and various cyclic compounds possessing a chiral quaternary carbon center were obtained in high yields with high ees. In this cyclization, a Rh?C(sp²) bond in the rhodacyclopentene intermediate, which was formed by enantioselective oxidative cycloaddition of enynes to a chiral rhodium(I) complex, was intramolecularly cleaved by σ‐bond metathesis of a tethered O?H bond in the substrate. Furthermore, it was found that the cyclic compounds were obtained with high ees even when the starting materials having a racemic secondary alcohol moiety were used in this reaction.     

Role of pressure gradient on intrinsic toroidal rotation in tokamak plasmas

The toroidal plasma rotation generated by the external momentum input and by the plasma itself (intrinsic rotation) has been separated through a novel momentum transport analysis in the JT-60U tokamak device. The toroidal rotation, which is not determined by the momentum transport coefficients and the external momentum input, has been observed. It is found that this intrinsic rotation is locally determined by the local pressure gradient and increases with increasing pressure gradient. This trend is almost the same for various plasmas: low and high confinement mode, co and counterrotating plasmas.     

Transition between internal transport barriers with different temperature-profile curvatures in JT-60U Tokamak plasmas

A spontaneous transition phenomena between two states of a plasma with an internal transport barrier (ITB) is observed in the steady-state phase of the magnetic shear in the negative magnetic shear plasma in the JT-60U tokamak. These two ITB states are characterized by different profiles of the second radial derivative of the ion temperature inside the ITB region (one has a weak concave shape and the other has a strong convex shape) and by different degrees of sharpness of the interfaces between the L mode and the ITB region, which is determined by the turbulence penetration into the ITB region.     

10 GHz, 2.4 ps pulse generation using a single-stage dual-drive Mach-Zehnder modulator

This Letter reports on picosecond pulse generation at a repetition of 10 GHz by using a single-stage electro-optic LiNbO(3) Mach-Zehnder modulator, stressing the simplicity of its setup. It is analytically and experimentally proved that dual-arm modulation with in-phase sinusoidal signals having slightly different amplitudes generated a highly coherent optical comb with a great spectral flatness and a parabolic phase relationship in its spectrum. The generated comb was Fourier synthesized and shaped into an ultrashort pulse train with an optical bandpass filter and a dispersive fiber. The pulse source was highly stable, exhibiting an ultralow timing jitter of less than 130 fs.
