Synthesis and metal binding properties of novel sulfur-containing functional oligomer

The synthesis and metal ion binding properties of a new class of functional oligomers are described. Oligo[1-(N-phenylthiocarbamoyl)aziridine] (DP ca. 8) and its analogs are prepared by ring-opening oligomerization of the corresponding aziridine monomers in good yields. These oligomers contain sulfur groups capable of binding “soft” metal ions, and the selective binding properties of the novel oligomer for Cu(II) and Hg(II) ions are investigated by liquid-solid adsorption and liquid-liquid extraction experiments.

Synthesis of novel macrocyclic peroxides by bis(sym-collidine)iodine (I) hexafluorophosphate-mediated cyclization of unsaturated hydroperoxides and unsaturated alcohols

Bis(sym-collidine)iodine (I) hexafluorophosphate-mediated cyclization of unsaturated hydroperoxides, prepared by a variety of different methods, afforded the corresponding 10- to 20-membered macrocyclic peroxides having two or three peroxide units located within one ring in moderate yields. By analogy, cyclization of unsaturated alcohols having one or two peroxide bond in the chain afforded the corresponding cyclic ethers. The efficiency of the latter reactions were found to be a function of the structure of the alcohols.     

Synthesis of the axially substituted titanium Pc-C60 dyad with a convenient method

[structure: see text] We successfully synthesized the axially substituted titanium Pc-C(60) dyad with a convenient method that improves on the traditional asymmetrical phthalocyanine routine to covalently linked phthalocyanines with other functional molecules. The intramolecular photoinduced process between phthalocyanine donor and fullerene acceptor was preliminarily studied.     

Enhancing effect of phenylboronic acid compounds and their interactions with the diol groups of saccharides in a capillary electrophoresis-chemiluminescence detection system.

In our previous study, we proposed molecular recognition of mono- and disaccharides making use of the interaction between their diol groups and p-iodophenylboronic acid in capillary electrophoresis with a chemiluminescence detection system. Here, to extend our knowledge of molecular recognition, we first examined the enhancing effects of four phenylboronic acid compounds other than p-iodophenylboronic acid i.e., 4-biphenylboronic acid, 4-octyloxyphenyl-boronic acid, 3-octyloxyphenylboronic acid, and 4-dodecyloxyphenylboronic acid, for luminol-hydrogen peroxide-horseradish peroxidase reaction in the capillary electrophoresis-chemiluminescence detection system. Only 4-biphenylboronic acid showed an enhancing effect similar to that of p-iodophenylboronic acid; the effect was determined over the range of 0.5-10 microM in this system. Second, we estimated the apparent stability constants between the diol groups of saccharides (1-methyl-D-glucoside, D-saccharose, and D-fructose) and the boronic acid moieties of the two enhancers, p-iodophenylboronic acid and 4-biphenylboronic acid. The apparent binding constants obtained here provided insight to confirm the principle of molecular recognition for the saccharides examined here.     

Supersymmetry breaking and gauge mediation in models with a generic superpotential

We present a general scheme for finding or creating a metastable vacuum in supersymmetric theories. By using the formalism, we show that there is a parameter region where a metastable vacuum exists in the Wess–Zumino model coupled to messenger fields. This model serves as a perturbative renormalizable model of direct gauge mediation.
