Water soluble urea-formaldehyde (UF) fertilizers, manufactured by complex reaction of urea and formaldehyde, typically contain varying amounts of unreacted urea. A liquid chromatography method for the analysis of urea in these products, and in aqueous urea solutions, was collaboratively studied. An amine chromatography column was used to separate the unreacted urea from numerous UF reaction products present in these liquid fertilizers. Unreacted urea was determined by using external urea standards with UV detection at 195 nm. The standards and test samples were prepared in the mobile phase of 85% (v/v) acetonitrile in water. Ten laboratories analyzed 5 different UF-based commercial products containing unreacted urea in the range of 6 to 17% by weight, and 5 different concentrations of urea in water equivalent to commercial products of that nature. The aqueous urea solutions contained 2-20% urea (w/w). The range of s(R) values for the 5 UF-based commercial fertilizers was 0.49-1.02 and the %RSD(R) was 1.94-6.14. The s(R) range for the 5 urea solutions was 0.10 to 0.79 and the %RSD(R) range was 2.54 to 4.88. The average recovery of urea from the aqueous urea solutions was 96-103%. Therefore, this method is capable of monitoring urea nitrogen manufacturers' label claims and total nitrogen claims in those cases where urea is the sole source of plant food nitrogen. Based on the collaborative study data, the authors recommend this method be approved for AOAC Official First Action status.  相似文献

We have developed synthesis routes for the introduction of short and long dialkylsulfides onto the primary side of alpha-, beta-, and gamma-cyclodextrins. Monolayers of these cyclodextrin adsorbates were characterized by electrochemistry, wettability studies, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry (TOF-SIMS), and atomic force microscopy (AFM). The differences in thickness and polarity of the outerface of the monolayers were measured by electro-chemistry and wettability studies. On average about 70% of the sulfide moieties were used for binding to the gold, as measured by XPS. Tof-SIMS measurements showed that the cyclodextrin adsorbates adsorb without any bond breakage. AFM measurements revealed for beta-cyclodextrin monolayers a quasi-hexagonal lattice with a lattice constant of 20.6 A, which matches the geometrical size of the adsorbate. The alpha-cyclodextrin and gamma-cyclodextrin monolayers are less ordered. Interactions of the anionic guests 1-anilinonaphthalene-8-sulfonic acid (1,8-ANS) and 2-(p-toluidinyl)naphthalene-6-sulfonic acid (2,6-TNS) and the highly ordered monolayers of heptapodant beta-cyclodextrin adsorbates were studied by surface plasmon resonance (SPR) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The SPR measurements clearly showed interactions between a beta-cyclodextrin monolayer and 1,8-ANS. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy measurements gave high responses even at low guest concentrations (< or = 5 microM). The association constant for the binding of 1,8-ANS (K = 289,000 +/- 13,000M-1) is considerably higher than the corresponding value in solution. (Partial) methylation of the secondary side of the beta-cyclodextrin strongly decreases the binding.  相似文献

Arsenic extraction in natural and spiked soil samples was studied using two main types of extractants. The extractants were phosphoric acid used alone and with the addition of reducing agents (ascorbic acid and hydroxylammonium hydrochloride). The stability of arsenite (As(III)), arsenate (As(V)), monomethylarsonic acid (MMA) and dimethylarsinic acid (DMA) in the extracts over time and under different storing conditions was assessed by means of LC-HG-AFS. A protocol was devised to extract arsenic species from soils. The protocol assures the stability of the original sample species in the extract proposed by using an extraction solution of phosphoric acid with ascorbic acid and by purging the extracts after microwave extraction. The total As, Mn and Fe content in aqua regia and in phosphoric extracts was also measured by ICP-AES in order to perform the mass balance.  相似文献

The effect of the addition of 10 mol % cholesterol to 1,2-dipalmitoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine (DPPC) floating bilayers has been investigated by means of neutron reflectivity measurements. The large swelling of the water layer between the two bilayers found in pure phosphocholine systems around the lipid main phase transition is greatly reduced in the 9:1 DPPC:cholesterol mixture. The analysis of the structure of the bilayer reveals that in the gel phase cholesterol induces the presence of a high rms roughness that disappears in the fluid phase.  相似文献

DNA adsorption on solid or liquid surfaces is a topic of broad fundamental and applied interest. Here, we study by X-ray reflectivity the adsorption of monodisperse double-stranded DNA molecules on a positively charged surface, obtained through chemical grafting of a homogeneous organic monomolecular layer of N-(2-aminoethyl) dodecanamide on an oxide-free monocrystalline Si(111) wafer. The adsorbed dsDNA is found to embed into the soft monolayer, which is deformed in the process. The surface coverage is very high, and this adsorbed layer is expected to display 2D nematic ordering.  相似文献

Following the recent discussion on the puzzling nature of the interactions in the nanotubular system Na(2)V(3)O(7), we present a detailed ab initio microscopic analysis of its electronic and magnetic properties. By means of a nontrivial downfolding study we propose an effective model in terms of tubes of nine-site rings with the geometry of a spin-diamond necklace with frustrated inter-ring interactions. We show that this model provides a quantitative account of the observed magnetic behavior.  相似文献
