Conductivity behavior of continuum percolation in restricted two-dimensional domains is simulated by considering systems of randomly distributed disks. The domain is restricted in that conducting objects are permitted to lie in only a portion of the domain. Such a restricted domain might better approximate some natural systems. Simulations of two-dimensional systems, based on three distributions of local conductances, are examined and found to demonstrate a power-law behavior with conductivity exponents smaller than those arising in regular lattice and continuum percolation  相似文献

The nonlinear interactions and modulations of an n-dimensional wave and of a disturbance to a near-critical system governed by a general (n + 1)-dimensional system of equations are studied by perturbation methods. It is found that these modulations are governed by an evolution equation which is either by itself or coupled to a second equation, depending on the nature of the long wave solutions of the corresponding linearized system. When a single evolution equation exists, its leading terms are shown to give the nonlinear Schrödinger equation. Water waves and near-critical plane Poiseuille flow are discussed as examples.  相似文献

There are several U.S. EPA approved methodologies for the determination of arsenic in ground water. Such technologies are lab-based, time intensive and can lead to a large capital cost for multi-sample analysis. In light of the number of sites found to contain arsenic at levels higher than the maximum contaminant level (MCL), on-site screening and monitoring systems are an attractive alternative. This review article summarizes several examples in the recent literature to illustrate the breadth of work in voltammetric analysis of arsenic in environmental samples. Also, included are recent voltammetric results, obtained with a microfabricated gold array and a field portable potentiostat, at an arsenic contaminated site in southern New Jersey.  相似文献

A new solvothermal method for the synthesis of thiol-protected silver nanoparticles starting from silver thiolates is reported. The method has been tried with thiols of different chain length, such as octane and octadecane thiols, and the particle size was found to be nearly the same for both molecules. The synthesis was dependent on heating conditions and the best results were obtained when the temperature was between 180 and 200 degrees C. Addition of complexation agents such as acetyl acetone or triethylamine to the solvent did not change the product distribution significantly.  相似文献

The functionality of natural biopolymers has inspired significant effort to develop sequence‐defined synthetic polymers for applications including molecular recognition, self‐assembly, and catalysis. Conjugation of synthetic materials to biomacromolecules has played an increasingly important role in drug delivery and biomaterials. We developed a controlled synthesis of novel oligomers from hydroxyproline‐based building blocks and conjugated these materials to siRNA. Hydroxyproline‐based monomers enable the incorporation of broad structural diversity into defined polymer chains. Using a perfluorocarbon purification handle, we were able to purify diverse oligomers through a single solid‐phase extraction method. The efficiency of synthesis was demonstrated by building 14 unique trimers and 4 hexamers from 6 diverse building blocks. We then adapted this method to the parallel synthesis of hundreds of materials in 96‐well plates. This strategy provides a platform for the screening of libraries of modified biomolecules.  相似文献

An improved scale-up synthesis was required for the alpha(V)beta(3)/alpha(V)beta(5) integrin antagonist 1, which had demonstrated oral efficacy in eye disease models of angiogenesis and vascular permeability. A stereodefined, quinoline-substituted, unsaturated ester was conveniently prepared by a Suzuki-Miyaura coupling to facilitate exploration of multiple methods of asymmetric reduction. The catalytic chiral hydrogenation of the corresponding unsaturated acid (Z-5b) with a ruthenium-based metal precursor and the (R)-XylPhanePhos ligand proved particularly efficient and economical. The resulting (3S)-quinoline-containing intermediate was reduced to an equal mixture of tetrahydroquinoline diastereomers. The undesired diastereomer could be recycled to the desired one by an oxidation/reduction protocol. The absolute stereochemistry of 1 was established as 3S,3'S by a combination of X-ray diffraction and chemical means.  相似文献

Two Streptomyces spp. strains responsible for potato common scab infections in Uruguay which do not produce diketopiperazines were identified through whole-genome sequencing, and the virulence factor produced by one of them was isolated and characterized. Phylogenetic analysis showed that both pathogenic strains can be identified as S. niveiscabiei, and the structure of the phytotoxin was elucidated as that of the polyketide desmethylmensacarcin using MS and NMR methods. The metabolite is produced in yields of ~200?mg/L of culture media, induces deep necrotic lesions on potato tubers, stuns root and shoot growth in radish seedlings, and is comparatively more aggressive than thaxtomin A. This is the first time that desmethylmensacarcin, a member of a class of compounds known for their antitumor and antibiotic activity, is associated with phytotoxicity. More importantly, it represents the discovery of a new virulence factor related to potato common scab, an economically-important disease affecting potato production worldwide.  相似文献
