A simple and efficient method was developed for the synthesis of para-Menthane-3,8-diol (PMD), a well-known repellent active against mosquitoes, from Eucalyptus citriodora essential oil by a treatment of citric acid in a biphasic medium (H2O/essential oil). The E. citriodora contains as main component (+)-citronellal (74% in the present case), which cyclises (Prins reaction) to form cis/trans PMD isomers. As an example, an emulsion containing an aqueous solution of 7% citric acid and E. citriodora oil at 50°, conducted after 15 h stirring to 82% conversion of (+)-citronellal with a selectivity of 80% with the remaining presence of monoterpenes and sesquiterpenes in the medium. Investigations of lasting protection on human volunteers are carried out using a cage test bioassay protocol and Aedes aegypti mosquitoes. At 20% in iPrOH, the new reaction mixture showed a complete protection of 303 min compared to 22 min with the pure essential oil. The modified oil was compared with N,N-diethyl-m-methylbenzamide (DEET), the most popular active used in repellent formulations. Thermogravimetric analyses (TGA) of E. citriodora, the modified oil, PMD, DEET, and (+)-citronellal were performed and showed a slow evaporation rate for PMD and DEET as well as for the modified oil, which may explain their long lasting protection action.  相似文献

Unresolved transition arrays (UTAs) are a method of approximating complex atomic physics in plasma opacity calculations, and as such are very important in modern plasma dynamic simulations. In this paper we use full atomic physics calculations to test various UTA models, paying particular attention to the lineshape and its effect on the mean opacity. We find that a Gaussian lineshape is sufficient provided that the line width is correctly determined. This width can be calculated using existing formulae, or approximated by neglecting correlations between term line energies and strengths or the selection rules on term - term transitions. We have quantified transition array narrowing due to correlations for a set of iron transitions and shown that a simple model for these incurs fairly large random errors. The neglect of the selection rules is also seen to result in random errors of up to an order of magnitude. These results may prove very useful in the future development of opacity codes, in particular those intended to run in line with hydrodynamic simulations.  相似文献

In a recently published paper development of a sensitive automated “on-line” solid-phase extraction (SPE)/RP-HPLC assay for 6β-hydroxytestosterone (6β-OHT) with corticosterone as the internal standard (IS) was reported and its potential for quantification of various testosterone metabolites in culture media reflecting metabolic activity of cultured human and animal hepatocytes demonstrated [1]. In this following contribution the technique has been extended to determination of another five testosterone metabolites in cultured rat hepatocytes using an identical “on-line” SPE/RP-HPLC procedure and detection by tandem MS-MS with an atmospheric pressure chemical ionization (APCI) source in the selected reaction monitoring (SRM) mode as that described in [1]. All six testosterone metabolites, namely 2α-OHT, 2β-OHT, 6α-OHT, 6β-OHT, 7α-OHT and 16α-OHT, could be sufficiently separated from each other and thus an unequivocal assignment to the individual structures was achieved. Validation data are presented specifying the limits of quantitation as well as the mean values of the coefficients of variation (CV) for the target analytes and the accuracy obtained at five different days. Regio- and stereoselective testosterone hydroxylation by rat hepatocytes was measured in a long-term culture system with and without exposure to rifampicin as an inducer of liver CYP 3A4 activity. In addition, testosterone hydroxylation was analyzed in cultures of cryopreserved hepatocytes that had been stored at −196 °C. The rat hepatocytes were cultured after thawing for up to 11 days and induction of testosterone hydroxylase activity could be demonstrated in cultures which underwent a new cryopreservation protocol. Parabolic subgroups are the building blocks of Artin groups. This paper extends previous results of Cumplido, Gebhardt, Gonzales-Meneses and Wiest, known only for parabolic subgroups of finite type Artin groups, to parabolic subgroups of FC-type Artin groups. We show that the class of finite type parabolic subgroups is closed under intersection. We also study an analog of the curve complex for mapping class group constructed by Cumplido et al. using parabolic subgroups. We extend the construction of this complex, called the complex of parabolic subgroups, to FC-type Artin groups. We show that this simplicial complex is, in most cases, infinite diameter and conjecture that it is δ-hyperbolic.  相似文献

An experimental technique utilizing high-pressure gas from an exploding wire is used to load long, hollow, thick-walled cylinders from the inside.
