Two‐electron atomic systems confined within spheroidal boxes

The direct variational method is used to estimate some interesting physical properties of the He atom and the Li⁺ ion confined within impenetrable spheroidal boxes. A comparative investigation of the ground‐state energy, pressure, polarizability, dipole, and quadrupole moments with those of the He atom inside boxes with paraboloidal walls is made. The overall results show a similar qualitative behavior. However, for Li⁺ there are quantitative differences on such properties due to its major nuclear charge, as expected. The trial wave function is constructed as a product of two hydrogenic wave functions adapted to the geometry of the confining boxes. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Pulsed electroluminescence in silicon nanocrystals-based devices fabricated by PECVD

Fully compatible CMOS capacitive devices have been developed in order to obtain electrically stimulated luminescence. By high-temperature annealing in N₂ atmosphere PECVD non-stoichiometric silica layers, silicon nanocrystals were formed. Photoluminescence, as well as structural studies, were carried out on these layers to decide the best material composition, which lies next to 17% of silicon excess. Under pulsed electrical stimulation, devices show sharp, narrow, less than 5 μs and pulse-frequency-independent, luminescence peaks at the end of the stimulation pulse. Current analysis on those capacities show hole injection at the beginning and electron injection at the end of the stimulation pulses. It is seen that no positive pulses are needed for attaining bipolar charge injection. Electroluminescence is detected when biasing with negative pulses at about 15 V and increasing up to 50 V. The electroluminescence spectrum matches photoluminescence one, allowing assigning both luminescent radiation to the same emission mechanism, that is, electron–hole recombination within the silicon nanocrystals.     

Properties of a new metal-ferrite composite as seen by Mössbauer spectroscopy

Several samples of a new metal-ferrrite composite made up of Fe-Co alloy and mixed Fe-Co ferrite have been studied by Mössbauer spectroscopy with and without applied field. The general chemical formulas have been established and the non-collinear magnetic structure has been evidenced at low temperature due to anisotropic Fe²⁺ and Co²⁺ ions.     

Regularization of absorber or doorway states in heavy-particle collisions

We present a unified theoretical basis of the recently proposed regularization method of absorber or doorway states. The theory is applicable to the close-coupling solutions of time-dependent Schrödinger equations corresponding to Hamiltonians containing singular terms and with a partial continuum spectrum. The presentation and illustrations are restricted to the treatment of atomic collisions.Dedicated to Prof. Werner Sandhas on the occasion of his 60th birthday     

Biimidazole and bis(amide)bipyridine molybdenum carbonyl complexes as anions receptors

Compounds [Mo(CO)4(N-N)] (N-N = 4,4'-bis((4-methylphenyl)carbamoyl)-2,2'-bipyridine, bipy', 1; or 2,2'-biimidazole, H2biim, 2), [MoCl(eta3-methallyl)(CO)2(N-N)] (N-N = bipy', 3; H2biim, 4), and [Mo(eta3-methallyl)(CNtBu)(CO2)(N-N)]BAr'4 (Ar' = 3,5-bis(trifluoromethyl)phenyl; N-N= bipy', 5; H2biim, 6) were synthesized and characterized, and their behavior toward anions was investigated in solution (IR and 1H NMR) and in solid state (X-ray diffraction).
