We introduce a family of power-conserving fiber-optic interferometer designs for low-coherence reflectometry that use optical circulators, unbalanced couplers, and (or) balanced heterodyne detection. Simple design equations for optimization of the signal-to-noise ratio of the interferometers are expressed in terms of relevant signal and noise sources and measurable system parameters. We use the equations to evaluate the expected performance of the new configurations compared with that of the standard Michelson interferometer that is commonly used in optical coherence tomography (OCT) systems. The analysis indicates that improved sensitivity is expected for all the new interferometer designs, compared with the sensitivity of the standard OCT interferometer, under high-speed imaging conditions.  相似文献

We report on the design and initial clinical experience with a real-time endoscopic optical coherence tomography (EOCT) imaging system. The EOCT unit includes a high-speed optical coherence tomography interferometer, endoscope-compatible catheter probes, and real-time data capture and display hardware and software. Several technological innovations are introduced that improve EOCT efficiency and performance. In initial clinical studies using the EOCT system, the esophagus, stomach, duodenum, ileum, colon, and rectum of patients with normal endoscopic findings were examined. In these initial investigations, EOCT imaging clearly delineated the substructure of the mucosa and submucosa in several gastrointestinal organs; microscopic structures such as glands, blood vessels, pits, villi, and crypts were also observed.  相似文献

Fullerene polymers represent a new class of carbon materials for potential hydrogen storage applications. Poly[60]fullerene polymers were obtained by covalently linking [60]fullerene molecules in photochemical reactions. [60]Fullerene polymers were also prepared in free radical reactions of [60]fullerene with radical initiator benzoyl peroxide. The polymeric [60]fullerene materials were hydrogenated under Birch reduction conditions. The hydrides, which contain ≈3.5% (wt/wt) of hydrogen, were characterized by use of gel permeation chromatography, NMR, FT-IR, and elemental analysis. The results are compared with those of monomeric [60]fullerene hydrides.  相似文献

The surface and aqueous interfacial tensions for a series of water-immiscible room-temperature ionic liquids (RTILs) have been measured. The RTILs used in this study were based on 1-alkyl-3-methylimidazolium cations (Cnmim, n=6, 8, 10, and 12) and bis(perfluoromethylsulfonyl)imide (BMSI) and bis(perfluoroethylsulfonyl)imide (BETI) anions. It was found that the surface tensions of the RTILs increased with an increasing cation chain length similar to the behavior of n-alkanes. Interfacial tensions of the RTILs with aqueous solutions, however, were found to decrease with the cation chain length, which has been attributed to the increased surface activity of the longer chain cations. We have also demonstrated the first use of electrocapillary measurements to study the polarizable RTIL/aqueous interfaces. From the electrocapillary data, the potential of zero charge (PZC) for these RTIL/aqueous interfaces was determined, as well as the relative surface excess charge and capacitance. The PZC was found to be dependent upon the structure of the anions and cations with PZC values ranging from -357 mV for C6mimBETI and -161 mV for C10mimBMSI. The electrocapillary results also show that the cations of the RTIL are becoming increasingly surface-active as the alkyl chain on the cation is lengthened, thereby modulating the interfacial potential.  相似文献

We demonstrate a compact, inexpensive, and reliable fiber-coupled light source with broad bandwidth and sufficient power at 1300 nm for high resolution optical coherence tomography (OCT) imaging in real-time applications. By combining four superluminescent diodes (SLEDs) with different central wavelengths, the light source has a bandwidth of 145 nm centered at 1325 nm with over 10 mW of power. OCT images of an excised stage 30 embryonic chick heart acquired with our combined SLED light source (<5 μm axial resolution in tissue) are compared with images obtained with a single SLED source (∼10 μm axial resolution in tissue). The high resolution OCT system with the combined SLED light source provides better image quality (smaller speckle noise) and a greater ability to observe fine structures in the embryonic heart.  相似文献
