Jahn–Teller Effect in Circulenes: X‐ray Diffraction Study of Coronene and Corannulene Radical Anions

Single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction studies of two polyaromatic radical anions crystallized as sodium salts, namely [Na(DME)₃]⁺[C₂₀H₁₀^?] ( 1 ) and [Na(DME)₃]⁺[C₂₄H₁₂^?] ( 2 ) are reported. This allowed the first structural evaluation of Jahn–Teller (JT) effects for monoreduced circulenes and a comparison between bowl‐shaped corannulene and planar coronene. The C_s and D_2h symmetrical distortions are found to fit the experimental data for C₂₀H₁₀^.? and C₂₄H₁₂^.?, respectively. The continuous symmetry measure (CSM) analysis was carried out to provide a quantitative measure of the JT distortions in 1 and 2 . In addition, the X‐ray crystallographic results were fully supported by DFT calculations.     

Reaction of several resveratrol glycoside derivatives with hypochlorites in various media

The reactions of pterostilbenoside (trans-3,5-dimethoxystilben-4′-O-β-D-glucoside) and Ar–O–Tr derivatives of resveratroloside (3,5-dihydroxystilben-4′-O-β-D-glucoside) and pinostilbenoside (3-methoxy-5-hydroxystilben-4′-O-β-D-glucoside) with NaOCl and t-BuOCl in the presence of the stable nitroxyl radical TEMPO were studied in various media. It was found that the principal product of pterostilbenoside transformation was its 2,6-dichloroderivative, a part of which was oxidized to form 2,6-dichloropterostilbene glucuronide. Trityl ethers of resveratroloside and pinostilbenoside reacted with the hypochlorites to form mixtures of products.     

Structure of the Cu(Salen) molecule Cuo<Subscript>2</Subscript>N<Subscript>2</Subscript>C<Subscript>16</Subscript>H<Subscript>14</Subscript> according to gas-phase electron diffraction data and quantum chemical calculations

In the framework of synchronous gas-phase electron diffraction and mass spectrometry experiment, the saturated vapor of N,N′-ethylenebis(salicylaldiminate) copper(II) CuO₂N₂C₁₆H₁₄ is studied at a temperature T 574(5) K. It is found that evaporation is congruent and the saturated vapor consists of monomeric molecules. Electron diffraction data are proved to correspond to the geometric model for the CuO₂N₂C₁₆H₁₄ molecule of C ₂ symmetry with an almost planar structure of the CuN₂O₂ coordination fragment and internuclear distances \(r_{h_1 } \)(Cu-O) = 1.917(13) Å and \(r_{h_1 } \)(Cu-N) = 1.931(15) Å. The stuctural parameters obtained are compared to those quantum chemically calculated and molecular parameters in crystals.

Morphological Features of the First Growth Steps of Polymeric Coatings from the Active Gas Phase on the Activated Surface

Morphological features of the first growth stages of polytetrafluoroethylene films from the active gas phase on the silicon surface treated by various methods were studied. The influence of the surface energy of the support on the distribution of polymer microparticles in these stages, on the distribution kinetics was determined.
