Normal- and Reversed-Phase Behaviour of 16,17-Secoestrone Derivatives on Cyanopropyl-Bonded Silica Gel

The retention behaviour of a number of 16,17-secoestrone derivatives has been studied by LC and HPTLC on a polar cyanopropyl-bonded stationary phase using non-aqueous and aqueous-organic mobile phases. The retention behaviour has been discussed in terms of nature of the solute, eluent and stationary phase. The correlation between retention constants of 16,17-secoestrone derivatives obtained from reversed-phases and commercially available ACD log P software (Advanced Chemistry, Toronto, Canada) has also been examined.

     

Synthesis of unsymmetrical saturated or diacetylenic cationic bolaamphiphiles

This work presents the synthesis of novel unsymmetrical bolaamphiphiles bearing a sugar residue and a cationic glycine betaine moiety connected to both ends of a C₂₂ or C₃₂ oligomethylene bridging chain possessing or not a diacetylenic unit. Preliminary transmission electron microscopy (TEM) studies revealed the polymorphism of these bola lipids with regard to their self-assembled morphologies in water depending on the presence or not of the diacetylenic functionality and on alkyl chain length.     

Mixed borohydride-chloride complexes of the rare earth elements

Mixed borohydride-chloride complexes of lanthanum and neodymium having the 2,5-bis{N-(2,6-diisopropylphenyl)iminomethyl}pyrrolyl ligand in the coordination sphere were synthesised by the reaction of potassium 2,5-bis{N-(2,6-diisopropylphenyl)iminomethyl}pyrrolyl [(DIP₂-pyr)K] with a 1:1 mixture of [Ln(BH₄)₃(THF)₃] and LnCl₃ (Ln = La, Nd). Both compounds are dimeric in the solid state. The metal atoms are bridged almost symmetrically by two μ-chlorine atoms. Quantum chemical calculations for the lanthanum compound were performed to obtain a deeper insight into the bonding in the molecule.     

On the pth moment exponential stability criteria of neutral stochastic functional differential equations

The paper discusses the pth moment exponential stability for a general class of neutral stochastic functional differential equations of the Ito type. This investigation can be very complicated, even in many special cases, by using usual methods based on Lyapunov functionals. In this paper we present criteria which are relatively easy to verify the pth moment exponential stability of the solutions of such equations.     

Chemical composition and antimicrobial activity of Satureja kitaibelii essential oil against pathogenic microbial strains

Plant species Satureja kitaibelii Wierzb. ex Heuff. is used as a spice and as a natural preservative for food and herbal tea, owing to its characteristic scent and flavor as well as high antimicrobial activity. In the present study, the antimicrobial activity of isolated essential oil of S. kitaibelii was tested against a panel of 30 pathogenic microorganisms (foodborne microbes, selected multiresistant bacterial isolates from the patient wounds and dermatophyte isolates). Limonene (15.54%), p-cymene (9.99%), and borneol (8.91%) appeared as the main components in 44 identified compounds representing 98.44% of the oil. Essential oil of S. kitaibelii showed significant activity against a wide spectrum of foodborne microbes (MIC=0.18-25.5 microg mL(-1)) and multiresistant bacterial isolates (MIC=6.25-50.0 microg mL(-1)), as well as against dermatophyte strains (MIC=12.5-50.0 microg mL(-1)). These results demonstrate that S. kitaibelii essential oil could be used as a natural potential antimicrobial agent against pathogenic strains in the treatment of foodborne disease, wound and skin infections.
