Wide band-gap group-III nitrides are important for the design of optical devices in the blue and blue–green region. Owing to their wurtzite structure, these materials have a strong inherent polarization field that affects carrier distribution, exciton stability and hence influences the optical properties of the devices. So far, carriers have been assumed to have a sheet-like character. In this paper a non sheet-like distribution function for these quasi two-dimensional carriers is proposed that incorporates the effect of the polarization field. Here GaN/InGaN/GaN and AlGaN/GaN/AlGaN quantum wells have been studied. The polarization field causes the electron and hole wave functions to separate out, thus causing decrease of emission strength and strong reduction of exciton binding energy. This treatment explains well the qualitative nature of carrier distribution in the well. The polarization field changes with GaN mole fraction present in the tertiary nitride layer. The effect of mole fraction on carrier distribution has also been studied. It is found that, inside the well, the hole distribution changes a little more with change in mole fraction than the electron distribution, but for all practical purposes the net change in the distribution pattern is negligible. 相似文献

Orientational order parameter S is evaluated in the nematic phase of six liquid crystal compounds, N-(p-n-propyl benzylidene)-p-n-alkoxy anilines, 3.Om and N-(p-n-propyloxy benzylidene)-p-n-alkoxy anilines, 3O.Om compounds with m = 6, 7 and 8, using different methods. The techniques employed are S from birefringence δn, Haller's approximation from (1?T/Tc) β, effective geometry parameter αg and Vuks’ scaling factor SC. The values of S obtained using the above methods are compared with one another and with the results on a number of liquid crystals; the liquid crystals favor isotropic Vuks’ method. 相似文献

We propose a new search strategy based on the event shape variables for new physics models where the separations among the masses of the particles in the spectrum are small. Collider signature of these models, characterized by low pT leptons/jets and low missing pT, are known to be difficult to look for. The conventional search strategies involving hard cuts may not work in such situations. As a case study, we have investigated the hitherto neglected jets + missing ET signature – known to be a challenging one – arising from the pair productions and decay of n=1 KK-excitations of gluons and quarks in the minimal Universal Extra Dimension (mUED) model. Judicious use of the event shape variables enables us to reduce the Standard Model backgrounds to a negligible level. We have shown that in mUED, R−1 up to 850 GeV can be explored or ruled out with 12 fb−1 of integrated luminosity at the 7 TeV run of the LHC. We also discuss the prospects of employing these variables for searching other beyond Standard Model physics with compressed or partially compressed spectra. 相似文献

We investigate the excitation behavior of a repulsive impurity doped quantum dot under the influence of randomly fluctuating dopant potential. We have considered Gaussian impurity centers doped at different locations. The investigation reveals the interplay between dopant location and dopant’s spatial stretch in modulating the excitation pattern. Maximization in the excitation rate has been observed as a function of fluctuating dopant strength owing to the conflict between opposing influences that promote and hinder excitation. 相似文献

The dispersion characteristics of low-frequency electromagnetic waves are studied in a plasma containing hydrogen ions and
positively and negatively charged oxygen ions and electrons. This composition of the plasma approximates very well the coma
of comet Halley where many heavy ions have been observed in appreciable numbers. The excitation of these waves results from
the relative motion between the protons and the heavy ions, which are considered unmagnetised and, therefore, may act like

High temperature scanning tunneling spectroscopy (HT-STS) was used to investigate the electronic structure of Au(1 1 1) at different temperatures in the energy range 0-1 eV below the Fermi level. We concentrated on the influence of temperature on the Shockley surface state (SS) appearing on noble metals surface due to a surface projected bulk bang gap in [1 1 1] direction. The influence of temperature on the projected band gap edge (BE) was also investigated. The experiment was carried out in the temperature range 294-580 K. As the result of the experiment a delicate shift of the SS and the BE in direction of the Fermi level was reported. 相似文献
