Using the concept of insulator-based "electrodeless" dielectrophoresis, we present a novel geometry for shaping electric fields to achieve lateral deviation of particles in liquid flows. The field is generated by lateral planar metal electrodes and is guided along access channels to the active area in the main channel. The equipotential surfaces at the apertures of the access channels behave as vertical "liquid" electrodes injecting the current into the main channel. The field between a pair of adjacent liquid electrodes generates the lateral dielectrophoretic force necessary for particle manipulation. We use this force for high-speed deviation of particles. By adding a second pair of liquid electrodes, we focus a particle stream. The position of the focused stream can be swept across the channel by adjusting the ratio of the voltages applied to the two pairs. Based on conformal mapping, we provide an analytical model for estimating the potential at the liquid electrodes and the field distribution in the main channel. We show that the simulated particle trajectories agree with observations. Finally, we show that the model can be used to optimize the device geometry in different applications.  相似文献

The neglect of free radicals over the past few years has been overcome, and they are no longer only considered as interesting reactive intermediates with limited synthetic potential. New opportunities are opened up by performing radical reactions in the presence of Lewis acids. Rate enhancement of radical addition to olefins as well as stereochemical control of such reactions can be achieved in a unique manner. The SOLEIL synchrotron radiation source is regularly operated in special filling modes dedicated to pump–probe experiments. Among others, the low‐α mode operation is characterized by shorter pulse duration and represents the natural bridge between 50 ps synchrotron pulses and femtosecond experiments. Here, the capabilities in low‐α mode of the experimental set‐ups developed at the TEMPO beamline to perform pump–probe experiments with soft X‐rays based on photoelectron or photon detection are presented. A 282 kHz repetition‐rate femtosecond laser is synchronized with the synchrotron radiation time structure to induce fast electronic and/or magnetic excitations. Detection is performed using a two‐dimensional space resolution plus time resolution detector based on microchannel plates equipped with a delay line. Results of time‐resolved photoelectron spectroscopy, circular dichroism and magnetic scattering experiments are reported, and their respective advantages and limitations in the framework of high‐time‐resolution pump–probe experiments compared and discussed.  相似文献

This paper reports the new combination of cell sorting and counting capabilities on a single device. Most state-of-the-art devices combining these technologies use optical techniques requiring complicate experimental setups and labeled samples. The use of a label-free, electrical device significantly decreases the system complexity and makes it more appropriate for use in point-of-care diagnostics.Living and dead yeast cells are separated by dielectrophoretic forces and counted using coulter counters. The combination of these two methods allows the determination of the percentage of living and dead cells for viability studies of cell samples. It could further be used for sorting and counting of blood cells in applications such as diagnosis of insufficient cell concentrations, identification of cell deficiencies or bacterial contamination. The use of dielectrophoresis (DEP) as sorting principle allows to separate cells based on their dielectric properties in place of size-based separation, enabling sorting of large panels of cells and separation of infected and non-infected cells of the same type.  相似文献

We study the distribution of tax payments in the model of Kyprianou and Zhou [Kyprianou, A.E., Zhou, X., 2009. General tax structures and the Lévy insurance risk model. J. Appl. Probab. (in press)], that is a Lévy insurance risk model with a surplus-dependent tax rate. More precisely, after a short discussion on the so-called tax identity, we derive a recursive formula for arbitrary moments of the discounted tax payments until ruin and we identify the distribution of the tax payments when there is no force of interest.  相似文献

An efficient preparation of pure ethyl Z- and E-alpha,alpha-difluoro-4-phenyl-3-butenoate 1a and 1b together with the corresponding acids 2a and 2b is described. The procedures involve stereocontrolled additions of *CF2CO2Et to phenylacetylene or beta-bromostyrene. Compound 1a is easily obtained by addition of *CF2CO2Et to phenylacetylene via a mechanism where the stereochemistry is controlled by an electron-transfer process to produce predominantly the Z vinyl anion. The product 1b is obtained by *CF2CO2Et addition-elimination to Z- or E-beta-bromostyrenes via a mechanism where the stereochemistry is controlled by steric factors in the conformational equilibration of the intermediates.  相似文献

Dynamic acoustoelastic testing is applied to weakly pre-loaded unconsolidated water-saturated glass beads. The gravitational acceleration produces, on the probed beads, a static stress of order 130 Pa, thus the granular medium is close to the jamming transition. A low-frequency (LF) acoustic wave gently disturbs the medium, inducing successively slight expansion and compaction of the granular packing expected to modulate the number of contacts between beads. Ultrasound (US) pulses are emitted simultaneously to dynamically detect the induced modification of the granular skeleton. US propagation velocity and attenuation both increase when the LF pressure increases. The quadratic nonlinear elastic parameter β, related to the pressure dependence of US propagation velocity, was measured in the range 60-530 if water-saturated glass beads are considered as an effective medium. A dynamic modification of US scattering induced by beads is proposed to modulate US attenuation. Complex hysteretic behaviors and tension-compression asymmetry are also observed and analyzed by time-domain and spectral analyses. Furthermore acoustic nonlinearities are measured in cases of quasi-static and dynamic variations of the LF wave amplitude, providing quantitatively similar acoustic nonlinearities but qualitatively different.  相似文献

The addition of an essentially nonlinear membrane absorber to a linear vibroacoustic system with multiple resonances is studied experimentally, using quasiperiodic excitation. An extended experimental dataset of the system response is analyzed under steady-state excitation at two frequencies. Thresholds between low and high damping states within the system and associated noise reduction are observed and quantified thanks to frequency conversion and RMS efficiency indicators. Following previous numerical results, it is shown that the membrane NES (Nonlinear Energy Sink) acts simultaneously and efficiently on two acoustic resonances. In all cases, the introduction of energy at a second excitation frequency appears favorable to lower the frequency conversion threshold and to lower the noise within the system. In particular, a simultaneous control of two one-to-one resonances by the NES is observed. Exploration of energy conversion in the two excitation amplitudes plane advocates for a linear dependence of the frequency conversion thresholds on the two excitation amplitudes.  相似文献
