The reduction of nitrophenols and nitroanilines at dme has been investigated in tetrahydrofuran-aqueous buffer mixtures under varying conditions. These compounds undergo reduction through various stages and the number of waves, their half-wave potentials and relative heights have been found to be a function of composition of the solvent, pH of the aqueous buffer used, and nature and position of the substituent in the depolarizer molecule. Polymorphism in crystals is known since 1822 and the credit goes to Mitscherlich who realized the existence of different crystal structures of the same compound while working with some arsenate and phosphate salts. Later on, this phenomenon was observed also in organic crystals. With the advent of different technologies, especially the easy availability of single crystal XRD instruments, polymorphism in crystals has become a common phenomenon. Almost 37 % of compounds (single component) are polymorphic to date. As the energies of the different polymorphic forms are very close to each other, small changes in crystallization conditions might lead to different polymorphic structures. As a result, sometimes it is difficult to control polymorphism. For this reason, it is considered to be a nuisance to crystal engineering. It has been realized that the property of a material depends not only on the molecular structure but also on its crystal structure. Therefore, it is not only of interest to academia but also has widespread applications in the materials science as well as pharmaceutical industries. In this review, we have discussed polymorphism which causes significant changes in materials properties in different fields of solid-state science, such as electrical, magnetic, SHG, thermal expansion, mechanical, luminescence, color, and pharmaceutical. Kinetics of the extraction of V(IV) from acidic sulfate medium by Cyanex 301 dissolved in kerosene has been investigated using a constant interfacial area stirred cell with laminar flow (Lewis cell). Reaction orders with respect to different concentration terms, rate constant, activation energy, entropy change in activation, and the enthalpy change in activation have been measured at a phase circulation speed of 3 Hz. The rate equation at 293 K is F (kmol/m2s) = 10?7.02 (1 + 0.025[V(IV)]?1)?1 (1 + 398[H+])?1 (1 + 0.10 [HA]o?1)?1 (1 +  3.16 [SO42?]). Here, we develop a framework for a molecular level understanding of the celebrated Stokes-Einstein-Debye (SED) formula. In particular, we explore reasons behind the surprising success of the SED model in describing dipolar solute rotation in complex polar media. Relative importance of solvent viscosity and solute-solvent dipolar interaction is quantified via a self-consistent treatment for the total friction on a rotating solute where the hydrodynamic contribution is modified by the friction arising from the longer ranged solute-solvent dipolar interaction. Although the solute-solvent dipolar coupling is obtained via the Mori-Zwanzig formalism, the inclusion of solvent structure via the wave vector dependent viscosity in the hydrodynamic contribution incorporates solvent molecularity in the present theory. This approach satisfactorily describes the experimental rotation times measured using a dipolar solute, coumarin 153 (C153), in protic and aprotic polar liquids, and more importantly, provides microscopic explanation for insignificant contribution of electrical interactions on solute rotation, in contrast to the substantial role played by the translational dielectric friction in the context of ionic mobility. It is also discussed on how the present theory can be suitably extended to study the rotation of a realistic solute in media other than dipolar solvents.  相似文献

In this report a textile azo dye Remazol orange was degraded and detoxified by bacterium Pseudomonas aeruginosa BCH in plain distilled water. This bacterial decolorization performance was found to be pH and temperature dependent with maximum decolorization observed at pH 8 and temperature 30 °C. Bacterium tolerated higher dye concentrations up to 400 mg?l?1. Effect of initial cell mass showed that higher cell mass concentration can accelerate decolorization process with maximum of 92 % decolorization observed at 2.5 g?l?1 cell mass within 6.5 h. Effect of various metal ions showed Mn has inducing effect whereas Zn strongly inhibited the decolorization process at 5 mM concentration. Analysis of biodegradation products carried out with UV–vis spectroscopy, HPTLC and FTIR confirmed the decolorization and degradation of Remazol orange. Possible route for the degradation of dye was proposed based on GC-MS analysis. During toxicological scrutiny in Allium cepa root cells, induction in the activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD), guaiacol peroxidase (GPX) and inhibition of catalase (CAT) along with raised levels of lipid peroxidation and protein oxidation in dye treated samples were detected which conclusively indicated the generation of oxidative stress. Less toxic nature of the dye degraded products was observed after bacterial treatment.  相似文献

Poly(N-vinylcaprolactam) (PVCL) connected to aminopropyl silica is a new stationary phase for temperature responsive liquid chromatography (TR-LC). PVCL shows a transition from hydrophilic to hydrophobic interaction between 30 and 40 °C. The synthesis is described in detail. The temperature responsive characteristic of the phase is illustrated with a mixture of steroids using pure water as mobile phase. An increase in retention is observed when raising the temperature. H–u plots at different temperatures were constructed. Below the lower critical solution temperature (LCST), no optimal velocity could be measured because of substantial resistance to mass transfer. Above the LCST, u opt was ca. 0.3 mm s?1 with reduced plate heights from 4 at 45 °C to 3 at 65 °C. The temperature responsive nature of the polymer is lost in green chromatography with ethanol as modifier in concentrations above 5%.  相似文献

A new iridoid, shanzhiol (1), was isolated from the aerial parts of Mussaenda roxburghii. The structure was established by spectroscopic (including 2D NMR) and chemical methods. Shanzhiol (1) showed mild antibacterial activity against both Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli with a MIC of 100 microg/mL by the broth dilution method.  相似文献

The CH2Cl2/MeOH extract of the stem bark of Oriciopsis glaberrima ENGL. afforded four new acridone alkaloids namely oriciacridone C, D, E and F along with six known compounds: atalaphyllidine, oleanolic acid, butulinic acid, beta-sitosterol, stigmasterol, glucoside of stigmasterol and one synthetically known acridone: 1,3,5-trihydroxy-4-prenylacridone. The structures were established on the basis of MS, 1D and 2D NMR experiments. The acridones 1, 4 and 5 showed potent activity against alpha-glucosidase, while the acridones 1-5 showed moderate free radical scavenging activity against 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH).  相似文献
