Complexes formed by a double-tail cationic surfactant, didodecyldimethyl ammonium bromide, and an anionic polyelectrolyte, an alternating copolymer of poly(styrene-alt-maleic acid) in its sodium salt form, were investigated with respect to variation in the charge ratio (x) between the polyelectrolyte negative charges and the surfactant positive charges. The morphology and microstructure of the complexes were studied by light microscopy and small-angle X-ray scattering for different preparation conditions. Independent of the sample preparation procedure and the charge ratio x, the X-ray results show that the microscopic structure of the complexes is a condensed lamellar phase. By contrast, the morphology of the complexes changes dramatically with the preparation procedure. The complexes formed by mixing a surfactant solution and a polyelectrolyte solution strongly depend on x and are always extremely heterogeneous in size and shape. Surprisingly, we show that, when the two solutions interdiffuse slowly, spherical complexes of micrometric and rather uniform size are systematically obtained, independently on the initial relative amount of surfactant and polyelectrolyte. The mechanism for the formation of these peculiar complexes is discussed. 相似文献

Nine brands of tobacco cigarettes manufactured and distributed in the Mexican market were analyzed by γ-spectrometry to certify
their non-artificial radioactive contamination. Since natural occurring radioactive materials (NORM) 40K, 232Th, 235U, and 239U (and decay products from the latter three nuclides) are the main sources for human radiation exposure, the aim of this work
was to determine the activity of 40K and potassium concentration. Averages of 40K and potassium concentration were of 1.29±0.18 Bq·g−1, and 4.0±0.57%. The annual dose equivalents to the whole body from ingestion and inhalation of 26 Bq 40K were 0.23 μSv and 15.8 μSv, respectively. The corresponding 50 years committed dose equivalents was 0.23 μSv. The total
committed dose to the lungs due to inhalation of 40K in tobacco was 16 μSv. Potassium concentrations obtained in this work were in the same range of those obtained by INAA,
so showing that the used technique is acute, reproducible, and accessible to laboratories equipped with low background scintillation

We present a series of new inhibitors of the association between nuclear factor kappa B (NF-B) and the corresponding B site in DNA. They were designed using the lead compound 15-deoxy-12,14 -prostaglandin J2 (PGJ2), which is a natural product with demonstrated inhibitory efficiency for this system. First, the binding mode of PGJ2 to NF-B was unraveled by GOLD docking calculation. Subsequently, substitutions were made to PGJ2 to optimize its association with NF-B. Care was taken not to strongly increase the reactivity of the new compounds, and to keep the overall shape, size and hydrophilicity of the lead compound, which should render them a similar bioavailability. Molecular mechanics calculations were performed to decide on the suitability of the substitutions, and to evaluate the energies of association with NF-B. Density functional theory calculations were performed also to study the overall reactivity of the substituted drugs towards NF-B. Important general conclusions were obtained, concerning the improvement of these natural inhibitors; namely, a set of rational methodologies were deduced to improve the association between the PGJ2 derivatives and NF-B, and their efficiency demonstrated by generating a set of substituted complexes, some of them with a very much increased affinity for NF-B, opening new doors to enlarge the therapeutic capabilities of this class of drugs. 相似文献

The aim of the present work is to characterize the pigments present in the kernel of four native maize varieties related to the races Arrocillo, Cónico, Peruano, and Purepecha to determine their possible use as natural dyes. Total anthocyanin content is determined by a conventional spectrophotometric method, and anthocyanin analysis is done by high-performance liquid chromatography. The stability of the pigment at pH is also evaluated. The four maize samples contained anthocyanin in both the pericarp and aleurone layer. Total anthocyanin content among samples ranged from 54 mg/100 g of sample to 115 mg/100 g of sample. Anthocyanin profiles are almost the same among the four samples. Differences are observed only in the relative percentage of each anthocyanin. The anthocyanins identified are cyanidin-3-glucoside, pelargonidin- 3-glucoside, peonidin-3-glucoside, cyanidin-3-(6" malonylglucoside), and cyanidin-3-(3",6"-dimalonylglucoside). Anthocyanin extracts showed similar behavior in solutions with different pH. From pH 1-6 lambdamax values are maintained almost constant; however, above this pH value, a marked increase is observed in the bathochromic shifts, but the bluish color did not continue to change above pH 8. 相似文献

Excitation-energy dependence of fluorescence intensity and fluorescence lifetime has been measured for 4-dimethylaminobenzonitrile (DMABN), 4-aminobenzonitrile (ABN), 4-diisopropylaminobenzonitrile (DIABN), and 1-naphthonitrile (NN) in a supersonic free jet. In all cases, the fluorescence yield decreases rather dramatically, whereas the fluorescence lifetime decreases only moderately for S1 (pi pi*, L(b)) excess vibrational energy exceeding about 1000 cm(-1). This is confirmed by comparison of the normalized fluorescence excitation spectrum with the absorption spectrum of the compound in the vapor phase. The result indicates that the strong decrease in the relative fluorescence yield at higher energies is due mostly to a decrease in the radiative decay rate of the emitting state. Comparison of the experimental results with the TDDFT potential energy curves for excited states strongly suggests that the decrease in the radiative decay rate of the aminobenzonitriles at higher energies is due to the crossing of the pi pi* singlet state by the lower-lying pi sigma*(C[triple bond]N) singlet state of very small radiative decay rate. The threshold energy for the fluorescence "break-off" is in good agreement with the computed energy barrier for the pi pi*/pi sigma* crossing. For NN, on the other hand, the observed decrease is in fluorescence yield at higher excitation energies can best be attributed to the crossing of the pi pi* singlet state by the pi sigma* triplet state. 相似文献

Epitaxial metal/oxide based magnetic tunnel-junctions (MTJ) are valuable model systems to investigate the influence of the crystallinity of individual layers on the magnetic properties. We have non-destructively studied the effect of the optical lithography procedure on the crystalline structure of MTJ’s with lateral spatial resolution by performing local x-ray diffraction experiments using a microfocused x-ray spot. We demonstrate that the lithography process produces distortion effects on the crystalline structure of the layers near the edges of the lithographed junction. These distortions are present on all the constituent layers and are most probably driven by the elastic constants of the materials. They translate into tilts of the crystalline planes in the vicinity of the edges and propagate towards the center of the junction; the tilt’s amplitude (up to several degrees) and sign (concave or convex) depend on the junction’s shape, size and the type of materials (interfaces) used. We report results for junctions made with two types of metal-oxide interfaces (Co/CoFe2O4 and Co/Fe3O4), with sizes from 10 to 150 μm and various shapes (square-, rectangle- and disk-like). 相似文献

AC electric fields are of increasing importance for the generation of fluid flows in microsystems. We analyse numerically the use of AC electric fields at microwave frequencies for electro-thermal actuation of water in microdevices. Water is heated because of its significant dielectric loss at microwave frequencies. Buoyancy and dielectric forces actuate in the liquid bulk, and the relative importance between them is studied. The microwave liquid actuation can be used for pure water as well as for water saline solutions, such as bio-fluids. Therefore, it is of interest for the Lab-on-a-Chip technology. 相似文献

NMR spin echo measurements of 13C in C60, 89Y in Y2O3, and 29Si in silicon are shown to defy conventional expectations when more than one pi pulse is used. Multiple pi-pulse echo trains may either freeze out or accelerate the decay of the signal, depending on the pi-pulse phase. Average Hamiltonian theory, combined with exact quantum calculations, reveals an intrinsic cause for these coherent phenomena: the dipolar coupling has a many-body effect during any real, finite pulse. 相似文献
