Facile reductive coupling of benzylic halides is reported with ferrous oxalate dihydrate in DMF or HMPA under nitrogen atmosphere at 155-160 degrees C. The coupling is proposed to proceed by two successive oxidative additions of benzylic halides to ferrous oxalate to give an intermediate organoiron complex which undergoes concerted dimerization to give the corresponding reductively coupled dimers in high yields. 相似文献

A multiple focused probe approach for high intensity focused ultrasound based surgery 总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
To produce deep-seated surgical lesions using ultrasound requires high power and intensity levels at the target sites. Conventionally, large transducers are used which require big apertures and so are generally suitable only for extra-corporeal access. Such transducers also result in strong off-focus maxima, where the resulting hot spots can destroy normal tissue whilst deep-seated large tissue volumes are being ablated. This paper describes a new approach in which it is proposed that multiple probes are used simultaneously, each at a relatively low power, to result in an overlapping focused region of high temperature without strong off-focus hot spots. Robotic techniques could be used to move the individual probes in coordination to sweep out the desired region of tissue ablation. Simulation and planning are the key to quality prediction for high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU). Simplified two-dimensional and three-dimensional models of HIFU probes have been developed to study the characteristics of various multi-probe configurations. Preliminary simulation results show that the multi-probe system can be arranged successfully to minimise off-focus hot spots. Experimental results are presented which validate the modality and confirm this positive finding. Further prediction studies and planning will be necessary to achieve the most appropriate desired treatment, by varying the pulse duration and spacing. 相似文献

The ingestion of contaminated water and food is known to cause food illness. Moreover, on assessing the patients suffering from foodborne disease has revealed the role of microbes in such diseases. Concerning which different methods have been developed for protecting food from microbes, the treatment of food with chemicals has been reported to exhibit an unwanted organoleptic effect while also affecting the nutritional value of food. Owing to these challenges, the demand for natural food preservatives has substantially increased. Therefore, the interest of researchers and food industries has shifted towards fruit polyphenols as potent inhibitors of foodborne bacteria. Recently, numerous fruit polyphenols have been acclaimed for their ability to avert toxin production and biofilm formation. Furthermore, various studies have recommended using fruit polyphenols solely or in combination with chemical disinfectants and food preservatives. Currently, different nanoparticles have been synthesized using fruit polyphenols to curb the growth of pathogenic microbes. Hence, this review intends to summarize the current knowledge about fruit polyphenols as antibacterial agents against foodborne pathogens. The rate constants of O2(1Δg) with aliphatic alcohols, terpenes, unsaturated hydrocarbons, chlorinated hydrocarbons, oxygen, and diamines have been studied in thepresence of NO2. The rate constants for oxygen, 1,2-ethane diamine, and 1,2-propane diamine are (9.9 ± 0.4) × 102, (8.7 ± 0.7) × 104, and (1.4 ± 0.3) × 104 1/mol/s, respectively. The supercontinuum generation (SCG) in liquid core photonic crystal fiber (LCPCF) with versatile nonlinear response and the spectral broadening in dual core optical fiber is presented. The analysis is presented in two phase, phase I deals with the SCG in LCPCF with the effect of saturable nonlinearity and re-orientational nonlinearity. We identify and discuss the generic nature of the saturable nonlinearity and reorientational nonlinearity in the SCG, using suitable model. For the physical explanation, modulational instability and soliton fission techniques is implemented to investigate the impact of saturable nonlinear response and slow nonlinear response, respectively. It is observed that the saturable nonlinearity inevitably suppresses the MI and the subsequent SCG. On the other hand, the re-orientational nonlinearity contributes to the slow nonlinear response in addition to the conventional fast response due to the electronic contribution. In this paper, we consider the Riemann problem and interaction of elementary waves for a nonlinear hyperbolic system of conservation laws that arises in shallow water theory. This class of equations includes as a special case the equations of classical shallow water equations. We study the bore and dilatation waves and their properties, and show the existence and uniqueness of the solution to the Riemann problem. Towards the end, we discuss numerical results for different initial data along with all possible interactions of elementary waves. It is noticed that in contrast to the p -system, the Riemann problem is solvable for arbitrary initial data, and its solution does not contain vacuum state. 相似文献

Bone provides an important source of forensic evidence. The storage conditions of bone have been recognised as a factor in
maintaining the integrity of such evidence. Thermogravimetric analysis (TG) has been employed to examine the effects of storage
environments and preparation methods on the structural properties of pig bones. A comparison of oven and freeze drying has
been made to study the effect of storage conditions. A comparison has also been made of ground bone specimens with cut specimens.
Freeze-dried hand ground specimens provided the most consistent results and, thus, this is the recommended method of preparation

A novel series of Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II), and VO(IV) complexes has been synthesized from the Schiff base derived from
4-[(3,4-dimethoxybenzylidene)amino]-1,5-dimethyl-2-phenyl-1,2-dihydropyrazol-3-one and 1,2-diaminobenzene. Structural features
were determined by analytical and spectral techniques. Binding of synthesized complexes with calf thymus DNA (CT DNA) was
studied by spectroscopic methods and viscosity measurements. Experimental results indicate that the complexes are able to
form adducts with DNA and to distort the double helix by changing the base stacking. Lower DNA affinity of the VO(IV) complex
is caused by the change of coordination geometry by the vanadyl ion resulting in a somewhat unfavorable configuration for
the DNA binding. Oxidative DNA cleavage activities of the complexes were studied with supercoiled (SC) pUC19 DNA using gel
electrophoresis; the mechanism studies revealed that the hydroxyl radical is likely to be the reactive species responsible
for the cleavage of pUC19 DNA by the synthesized complexes. The in vitro antimicrobial screening effects of the investigated
compounds were monitored by the disc diffusion method. The synthesized Schiff base complexes exhibit higher antimicrobial
