Through the sol–gel process, using the so-called neutral amine route, spherical particles of 1:1 zirconia–titania were synthesized from zirconium(IV) and titanium(IV) butoxides as well as 1,12-diaminododecane as precursor species. The obtained product exhibited a hexagonal structure, as determinated by X-ray diffraction data. The obtained material was also characterized by thermogravimetry, differential scanning calorimetry, infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and surface area measurements. A great number of studies have shown the complex nonlinear dynamics of mechanical systems with repeated normal impacts. An
oblique frictional impact introduces even more complicated dynamics such as stick-slip motions to those systems. Hence, the
dynamics of oblique vibro-impacting systems with possible sliding motion is an open problem. Based on a hybrid analysis of
vibro-impact dynamics, kinematics and complementary conditions, a piecewise analysis method is developed in the paper to describe
the sliding motion during an oblique impact. Thereby, a parametrically excited planar pendulum between two parallel rigid
walls is studied as an illustrative example. The example, together with the corresponding numerical results, shows that the
sliding impacts occur in such a system with a set of properly selected parameters.

We define a general game which forms a basis for modelling situations of static search and concealment over regions with spatial structure. The game involves two players, the searching player and the concealing player, and is played over a metric space. Each player simultaneously chooses to deploy at a point in the space; the searching player receiving a payoff of 1 if his opponent lies within a predetermined radius r of his position, the concealing player receiving a payoff of 1 otherwise. The concepts of dominance and equivalence of strategies are examined in the context of this game, before focusing on the more specific case of the game played over a graph. Methods are presented to simplify the analysis of such games, both by means of the iterated elimination of dominated strategies and through consideration of automorphisms of the graph. Lower and upper bounds on the value of the game are presented and optimal mixed strategies are calculated for games played over a particular family of graphs. 相似文献

We introduce and describe the Multiple Gravity Assist problem, a global optimisation problem that is of great interest in
the design of spacecraft and their trajectories. We discuss its formalization and we show, in one particular problem instance,
the performance of selected state of the art heuristic global optimisation algorithms. A deterministic search space pruning
algorithm is then developed and its polynomial time and space complexity derived. The algorithm is shown to achieve search
space reductions of greater than six orders of magnitude, thus reducing significantly the complexity of the subsequent optimisation.

How are listeners able to identify whether the pitch of a brief isolated sample of an unknown voice is high or low in the overall pitch range of that speaker? Does the speaker's voice quality convey crucial information about pitch level? Results and statistical models of two experiments that provide answers to these questions are presented. First, listeners rated the pitch levels of vowels taken over the full pitch ranges of male and female speakers. The absolute f0 of the samples was by far the most important determinant of listeners' ratings, but with some effect of the sex of the speaker. Acoustic measures of voice quality had only a very small effect on these ratings. This result suggests that listeners have expectations about f0s for average speakers of each sex, and judge voice samples against such expectations. Second, listeners judged speaker sex for the same speech samples. Again, absolute f0 was the most important determinant of listeners' judgments, but now voice quality measures also played a role. Thus it seems that pitch level judgments depend on voice quality mostly indirectly, through its information about sex. Absolute f0 is the most important information for deciding both pitch level and speaker sex. 相似文献

We demonstrate an optical system that can apply and accurately measure the torque exerted by the trapping beam on a rotating birefringent probe particle. This allows the viscosity and surface effects within liquid media to be measured quantitatively on a micron-size scale using a trapped rotating spherical probe particle. We examine several numerical techniques for the calculation of the dynamics of quantum systems. In particular, we single out an iterative method which is based on expanding the time evolution operator into a finite series of Chebyshev polynomials. The Chebyshev approach benefits from two advantages over the standard time-integration Crank-Nicholson scheme: speedup and efficiency. Potential competitors are semiclassical methods such as the Wigner-Moyal or quantum tomographic approaches. We outline the basic concepts of these techniques and benchmark their performance against the Chebyshev approach by monitoring the time evolution of a Gaussian wave packet in restricted one-dimensional (1D) geometries. Thereby the focus is on tunnelling processes and the motion in anharmonic potentials. Finally we apply the prominent Chebyshev technique to two highly non-trivial problems of current interest: (i) the injection of a particle in a disordered 2D graphene nanoribbon and (ii) the spatiotemporal evolution of polaron states in finite quantum systems. Here, depending on the disorder/electron-phonon coupling strength and the device dimensions, we observe transmission or localisation of the matter wave. 相似文献

Time-dependent photoexcitation and optical spectroscopy of pi-conjugated molecules is described using a new method for the simulation of excited state molecular dynamics in extended molecular systems with sizes up to hundreds of atoms. Applications are made to poly(p-phenylene vinylene) oligomers. Our analysis shows self-trapping of excitations on about six repeat units in the course of photoexcitation relaxation, identifies specific slow (torsion) and fast (bond-stretch) nuclear motions strongly coupled to the electronic degrees of freedom, and predicts spectroscopic signatures of molecular conformations. 相似文献

The eddy-current limited ruckling process by which a shaped “ket” domain wall in Goss oriented silicon iron transforms into a “bra” domain wall during magnetization reversal has been calculated from a new initial condition. It is now assumed that the re-oriented segments nucleate at the points of maximum shear stress on the domain wall and not at the surface as in a previous calculation. Both models are compared with experimental data obtained by Morgan and Overshott using Kerr magneto-optic microscopy. This suggests that ruckling is not initiated immediately d B/dT changes sign, but is delayed until the shearing stress is sufficient to nucleate re-oriented segments. 相似文献
