The conformations of the title compound have been analyzed in detail with respect to steric interaction energies, charge interaction energies, and solvation energies in heptane and benzene. Using previously developed methods, which include induction by dipoles in polarizable bonds, and the solvation of molecular dipoles and quadrupoles, predictions regarding the conformational equilibrium are made. These were tested by experimental determination of the dipole moment of the molecule in heptane and benzene, and are in agreement with the predictions. We report a high statistics measurement of Upsilon production with an 800 GeV/c proton beam on hydrogen and deuterium targets. The dominance of the gluon-gluon fusion process for Upsilon production at this energy implies that the cross section ratio, sigma(p+d-->Upsilon)/2sigma(p+p-->Upsilon), is sensitive to the gluon content in the neutron relative to that in the proton. We observe a yield to the 1+T = 1 level in 12C at 15.11 MeV in the isospin forbidden 12C(d, d') and 10B(α, d) reactions at about 1 % of the yield to the 1+T = 0 level at 12.71 MeV. Observed yields to the T = 12+ level at 16.11 MeV in both reactions at about half the yield to the 15.11 MeV level preclude attributing this observed isospin violation entirely to final state mixing. From the ratios of the spectroscopic factors for the 12.71 and 15.11 MeV levels in 12C and the ground state of 12B from the 13C(d, t) and 13C(d, 3He) reactions, we find a charge dependent matrix element between the 1+ states in 12C of 179 ± 75 keV. 相似文献

Peripheral transfer reactions can be used to determine asymptotic normalization coefficients (ANCs). These coefficients, which
specify the normalization of the tail of the nuclear overlap function, determine S-factors for direct capture reactions at astrophysical energies. A variety of proton transfer reactions involving both stable
and radioactive beams have been used to measure ANCs. Tests have demonstrated that ANCs determined from proton transfer reactions
can be used to calculate astrophysical direct capture rates to within 9%. The 10B(7Be, 8B)9Be and 14N(7Be, 8B)13C reactions have been used to measure the ANC appropriate for determining the 7Be(p,γ)8B rate, and the 14N(11C, 12N)13C reaction has been used to measure the ANC required to calculate the 11C(p,γ)12N rate.

The structure of the 18O nucleus at excitation energies above the $ \alpha$ decay threshold was studied using 14C + $ \alpha$ resonance elastic scattering. A number of states with large $ \alpha$ reduced widths have been observed, indicating that the $ \alpha$ -cluster degree of freedom plays an important role in this N $ \ne$ Z nucleus. A 0+ state with an $ \alpha$ reduced width exceeding the single-particle limit was identified at an excitation energy of 9.9±0.3 MeV. We discuss evidence that states of this kind are common in light nuclei and give possible explanations of this feature. 相似文献

Experimental spectra of the reaction 14N(14N, α) were measured at 111 MeV. Continuum spectra extending to high excitation energy of 24Mg do not show any structure which is completely at variance with the reaction 12C(16O, α). A compound evaporation calculation reproduces the smooth components of the spectra of both reactions. The same theoretical prediction, however, seems to contradict the conjecture that the compound process yields the broad peaks in the 12C(16O, α) reaction. 相似文献

The TWIST Collaboration has completed a new measurement of the energy-angle spectrum of positrons from the decay of highly polarized muons. A simultaneous measurement of the muon decay parameters ρ, δ, and P(μ)(π)ξ tests the standard model in a purely leptonic process and provides improved limits for relevant extensions to the standard model.
