Approach to Generate Radiometric Images

A new technique to generate radiometric images from the optical images is introduced in this paper. This technique can be applied in generating the source images for purpose of image-matching navigation. For comparison, two radiometric images are presents, one is imaged by a 8mm ground-based radiometer and the other is generated by this technique.     

Shifted identical bands: A new phenomenon

The levels in ¹⁶²Gd were identified in spontaneous fission studies. Its transition energies are remarkably similar to those in ¹⁶⁰Gd. From that work, an analysis of yrast bands in even-even proton to neutron-rich Ba to Pb nuclei led to the discovery of a new phenomenon, shifted identical bands (SIB). SIBs are yrast bands in neighboring nuclei (a, b) with moments of inertia which are identical when shifted by a constant amount κ, so J _1a (1+κ)=J _1b , from 2⁺ to 8⁺ and higher to 16⁺. Out of over 700 comparisons, 55 SIBs were found from stable to the most neutron-rich Ce-W nuclei with $\left| {\bar k} \right|$ between 1.5% and 13%, where the spread in κ is less than ±1%, and only four identical bands ( $\bar k \cong 0$ ). As examples, we found for ¹⁵⁸Sm-¹⁶⁰Gd, $\bar k = \left( { - 3.2_{ - 0.2}^{ + 0.1} } \right)\%$ (where the ± is the total spread in κ from ?3.1 to ?3.4); ¹⁵⁶Nd-¹⁶⁰Gd, (?10.6 _?0.2 ^+0.4 )%; ¹⁵⁸Sm-¹⁶⁰Sm, (3.4 _?0.3 ^+0.5 )%. The J ₁ values were fitted to a variable moment of inertia model with parameters J ₀ and C whose values correlate with the SIB J ₁ values. The SIBs are not correlated either with deformation or with the N _p N _n product of the IBA model.

ANALYSIS OF THE X-RAY PHOTOELECTRON SPECTRA OF a-SiOCF FILMS PREPARED BY PLASMA-ENHANCED CHEMICAL VAPOUR DEPOSITION

The preparation of a-SiOCF films from Si(OC₂H₅)₄, C₄F₈ and/or Ar using the plasma-enhanced chemical vapour deposition method is reported. The chemical bonding structures of the films are analysed by x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). In the case of the films deposited from the mixture with and without Ar, the configurations of F-Si-O-Si, Si-OH, Si-O-Si, C-CF and C-F are contained. However, there is also the C-C configuration in the film prepared from the mixture with Ar. Moreover, it is found that the photoelectron peaks of Si 2p, O 1s and F 1s for the film deposited from the feeding gas with Ar show the same shift of about 1eV toward high binding energy in comparison with those for the film prepared from the feeding gas without Ar. No evidence reveals the presence of an Si-C bond in the films.

Study on the Beam Quality of Uncoupled Laser Diode Arrays

The beam quality of uncoupled laser diode array is studied theoretically and experimentally. By calculating the second order moments of the beam emitted from the laser diode array, the dependence of the M2-factor of the laser diode array on the M2-factor of the single emitter, the ratio of the emitting region to the non-emitting space, and the number of emitters, has been deduced. From the measurement of the beam propagation the M2-factor of a laser diode bar is experimentally determined. The measured M2-factor of the laser diode bar agrees with the theoretical prediction.     

Specific heat studies of the spin-peierls transition

An experimental study is presented of the specific heat of the spin—Peierls systems TTF-TBT(M), M = Cu, Au. The linear term, γT, expected for the uniform one-dimensional antiferromagnet at low temperatures is observed above the Peierls transition. Specific heat anomalies associated with the transition are found at T_p(Cu) = 12.4K and T_p(Au) = 2.06K. The transition for TTF-BDT(Cu) is mean-field like; whereas the transition for TTF-BDT(Au) is broadened by one-dimensional fluctuation effects.
