Separation of no-carrier-added Tl and Pb radionuclides using poly(N-vinylpyrrolidone)

No-carrier-added (nca) ^199–201Tl has been separated from nca ^199–201Pb using an environmentally friendly biocompatible polymer, poly(N-vinylpyrrolidone). The method uses no harmful chemicals and is based on the process of dialysis of PVP-Pb and PVP-Tl complexes against triple-distilled water. It has been observed after one hour of dialysis that 75–85% Tl (in both +3 and +1 oxidation states) comes out of dialysis sack without any contamination from lead.     

Belt‐Shaped Cyclonaphthylenes

The recent development of cyclo‐para‐phenylenes has demonstrated the feasibility of radial π systems in nanohoop structures, especially in the crystalline state. However, in contrast to macrocyclic molecules with benzene units, which have a several‐decades‐long history, macrocycles composed solely of naphthylene units (the smallest acene) have been much less explored. Although two examples of cyclonaphthylenes have been reported to date, neither possesses a radial π system. We herein report the first example of belt‐shaped cyclonaphthylenes with curved π systems. The molecule, [8]cyclo‐amphi‐naphthylene, is linked at the 2,6‐positions of the naphthylene units, thus affording belt‐shaped molecules. Although the molecular structures are flexible, which allows for rotation of the naphthylene units in solution, they can be rigidified with the aid of methylene bridges to afford persistent molecular structures in solution.     

Asymmetric Transfer Hydrogenation Catalyzed by Mesoporous MCM‐41‐Supported Chiral Ru‐Complex

Chiral N‐sulfonyldiamine was successfully anchored on mesoporous MCM‐41 silica. The MCM‐41‐supported chiral N‐sulfonyldiamine was used as an efficient heterogeneous chiral ligand in the asymmetric transfer hydrogenation of ketones. This heterogeneous system offered satisfactory enantioselectivities up to 94 % with excellent conversions.     

Radiolabeled novel peptide for imaging somatostatin-receptor expressing tumor: synthesis and radiobiological evaluation

The aim of this study was to synthesis, a radiolabeled (^99mTc) new somatostatin-analogue 6-hydrazinopyridine-3-carboxylic-acid (HYNIC)-Asn³-octreotate (^99mTc-HYNIC-AATE), and to evaluate as a candidate for imaging somatostatin-receptor (SSTR)-positive tumors and also compare it with ^99mTc-HYNIC-Tyr³-octreotide (^99mTc-HYNIC-TOC). Synthesis was performed by Fmoc-solid-phase strategy and ^99mTc labeled by SnCl₂. Biodistribution and imaging properties of new radiopeptide were also studied in C6 tumor bearing rat. Radiolabeling was performed at high specific activities and it showed high binding-affinity for SSTR2. In biodistribution, radiopeptides have showed high and receptor-specific uptake in the SSTR2 positive organs, tumor with rapid renal excretion from non-target tissues. These results demonstrated that ^99mTc-HYNIC-AATE is a new specific radioligand for scintigraphy of somatostatin-receptor-positive tumors.     

Combining [Arene–Ru] with Azocarboxamide to Generate a Complex with Cytotoxic Properties

Azocarboxamide (azcH) has been combined for the first time with [Ru–Cym] to generate metal complexes with N,N‐ and N,O‐coordination mode, [(Cym)Ru(azc)Cl] and [(Cym)Ru(azcH)Cl]⁺[PF₆]^?. Geometric and electronic structures of the complexes are reported along with their in vitro activities against different tumour cell lines and preliminary results on solution chemistry. Compound [(Cym)Ru(azc)Cl] exhibited remarkable cytotoxic properties. It was cell‐type specific and had comparable IC₅₀ values towards both cancer cells and their drug‐resistant subline. A tenfold increase in the sensitivity towards [(Cym)Ru(azc)Cl] was noted for the tumour cells with depleted intracellular glutathione (GSH) level, suggesting the essential role of GSH in cell response to this compound.     

Role of hydrogen bonding on the spectroscopic properties of thiazolidinedione derivatives in homogeneous solvents

In this work, three newly synthesized derivatives of thiazolidinediones, with potential for application as drugs in pharmaceutical industry and free radical scavenging activity, have been taken up to investigate their behaviour in different homogeneous solvents. The purpose of this work is to study the solvation characteristics in ground and excited states of the derivatives by monitoring the absorbance and fluorescence band maxima. The steady state and time resolved fluorescence studies in protic and aprotic solvents have been rationalized on the basis of solute–solvent interaction and substituent effect on these photophysical processes have been analyzed. Substituents at different positions of the aryl moiety affect the hydrogen bond formation ability of the probes.     

Effective chemical route for the synthesis of silver nanostructures in formamide

Poly(N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone) (PVP) and gelatin protected silver nanostructures are prepared in formamide by simple chemical route. Both PVP and gelatin stabilized silver nanoparticles in formamide lead to the formation of nanostructures of various definite geometric shapes and sizes. The effect of anisotropy on the surface plasmon absorption band is analyzed by monitoring the UV-Visible absorption spectra of gelatin stabilized silver nanoparticles. The particles were characterized by UV-Visible absorption spectra and TEM.     

Solvent control of product diversity in palladium-catalyzed addition of arylboronic acid to aryl aldehydes

In Pd-catalyzed arylboronic acid addition to aryl aldehydes, the expected carbinol or asymmetrical ether can be obtained as the major product by altering aqueous solvent composition. Exploiting this methodology with 2-formylbiphenyls as reaction partner, a fluorene scaffold can be readily constructed in two steps.
