On CNC commuting contractive tuples

The characteristic function has been an important tool for studying completely non-unitary contractions on Hilbert spaces. In this note, we consider completely non-coisometric contractive tuples of commuting operators on a Hilbert space H. We show that the characteristic function, which is now an operator-valued analytic function on the open Euclidean unit ball in ℂⁿ, is a complete unitary invariant for such a tuple. We prove that the characteristic function satisfies a natural transformation law under biholomorphic mappings of the unit ball. We also characterize all operator-valued analytic functions which arise as characteristic functions of pure commuting contractive tuples.     

Determination of heavy metals in industrial wastes by SXRF method

Samples of the raw input material and industrial wastes collected at different processing stages of lead smelting units have been analyzed using the synchrotron induced X-ray fluorescence method to detect and estimate the presence of heavy metals. Heavy metals such as Sb, Cd, Sn, Pb are found to be present in significant amounts.     

Control strategies for laser separation of carbon isotopes

Laser isotope separation (LIS) by infrared laser chemistry of polyatomic molecules has come a long way since its discovery. The last decade has seen considerable efforts in scaling up of the process for light elements like carbon, oxygen and silicon. These efforts aim at ways to improve both the enrichment factor and the throughput. The achievement is quite significant especially for carbon isotope separation wherein macroscopic operating scales have been realized. We report our studies on the IR laser chemistry of two promising systems, viz. neat CF₂HCl and CF₃Br/Cl₂. We have investigated conditions for optimizing the dissociation yield and selectivity using natural samples containing l.l%C-13.Wealso highlight our current efforts for scaling up the process. These include the design aspects of a photochemical reactor with multipass refocusing Herriott optics for efficient photon utilization, development of a cryogenic distillation set up and a preparative gas chromatograph for large scale separation/collection of the isotopically enriched photoproduct in the post-irradiation stage.     

Band structures of121,123I

The band structures of^{121, 123}I nuclei have been studied using a version of the particle-rotor-model in which the experimental excitation energies of the neighbouring (A-1) cores can be fed directly as input parameters. The calculations have been carried out with axially symmetric Nilsson potential with both prolate and oblate deformations. The parameters of the model have been chosen from earlier theoretical work and experimental odd-even mass differences. Only the Coriolis attenuation factor has been treated as adjustable parameter. The theoretical band structures are in very good agreement with the available experimental data.     

Ratio dependent predation :A bifurcation analysis

In this study, we have considered a prey-predator model reflecting the predator interference with discrete time delay. This delay is regarded as the lag due to gestation. In absence of delay, the criteria for existence of interior equilibrium and its global stability are derived. By choosing the delay as a bifurcation parameter, we have shown that a Hopf bifurcation may occur when the delay passes its critical value. Finally, we have derived the criteria for stability switches and verified the results through computer simulation.     

Idempotents in the neighbourhood of Patterson-Wiedemann functions having Walsh spectra zeros

In this paper we study the neighbourhood of 15-variable Patterson-Wiedemann (PW) functions, i.e., the functions that differ by a small Hamming distance from the PW functions in terms of truth table representation. We exploit the idempotent structure of the PW functions and interpret them as Rotation Symmetric Boolean Functions (RSBFs). We present techniques to modify these RSBFs to introduce zeros in the Walsh spectra of the modified functions with minimum reduction in nonlinearity. Our technique demonstrates 15-variable balanced and 1-resilient functions with currently best known nonlinearities 16272 and 16264 respectively. In the process, we find functions for which the autocorrelation spectra and algebraic immunity parameters are best known till date.
