Nanostructures of self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) are designed and produced using coadsorption and nanografting techniques. Because the structures of these artificially engineered domains are predesigned and well-characterized, a systematic investigation is possible to study the mechanical responses to force modulation under atomic force microscope tips. Force modulation imaging reveals characteristic contrast sensitivity to changes in molecular-level packing, molecule chain lengths, domain boundaries, and surface chemical functionalities in SAMs. By means of actively tuning the driving frequency, the resonances at the tip-surface contact are selectively activated. Therefore, specific surface features, such as the edges of the domains and nanostructures or desired chemical functionalities, can be selectively enhanced in the amplitude images. These observations provide a new and active approach in materials characterization and the study of nanotribology using atomic force microscopy. 相似文献

Replicas of fracture surfaces of fractions of linear polyethylene, which were crystallized at elevated temperatures for extended time periods, were examined by electron microscopy. Striated. lamella-type crystallites were observed for all molecular weights over the range 3.2 × 103?5.7 × 105. In agreement with Anderson's previous report, for molecular weights of 12,000 or less, the crystallite thicknesses were comparable to the extended chain length. As the molecular weight increased above this level, however, the crystallite sizes increased only slightly and hence at high molecular weights were very much smaller than the extended chain length. From the measured melting temperatures, crystallite interfacial free energies were calculated from the theory for the melting of finite size crystals comprised of chains of finite length. The crystallite interfacial free energy was found to increase with molecular weight. Based on these results, a crystallization process is outlined which allows for the formation of either extended chain crystallites, or crystallites whose size is much smaller than the extended chain length without any change in nucleation mechanism or arbitrary adjustment in growth mechanism with molecular weight. 相似文献

A systematic optimization strategy for reverse-phase h.p.l.c. is used to produce complete separation of all components of a mixture containing two coumarins, umbelliferone and scopoletin, and the cis-trans isomers of two cinnamic acids, p-coumaric and ferulic. A series of experiments gives retention time data for each of these substances in four citric acid-buffered mobile phases. A mathematical model fitted to this data gives model parameters that provide the basis for a window diagram of relative retentions vs. mobile phase pH. The window diagram gives an estimate of the mobile phase pH required for optimum separation. 相似文献

Using reaction rate data collected in aprotic solvents, we have determined that the Baylis-Hillman rate-determining step is second order in aldehyde and first order in DABCO and acrylate. Poly(hexafluoropropylene oxide), poly(HFPO), networks were prepared from functional polymers by end linking via urethane groups. The prepolymers were characterized by NMR spectroscopy and GPC. The networks were characterized by determination of the number of network chains from the shear modulus, and were snown to contain both trifunctional crosslinks and difunctional links. The properties of the networks were investigated by a range of techniques. Compared with fully-fluorinated networks formed via triazine cross-links, investigated previously, the urethane-linked networks were more readily prepared but were poorer elastomers, were less thermally stable, and were less resistant to swelling by common polar solvents. © 1995 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. 相似文献

New potential molecular electronics devices have been synthesized based on our knowledge of systems that we previously studied. Research has shown that simple molecular systems demonstrate negative differential resistance (NDR) and memory characteristics. The new molecules rely primarily on the redox properties of the compounds to improve upon the solid-state characteristics already observed. Electrochemical tests have been performed in order to evaluate the redox properties with the hope that the electrochemical results can be used as a predictive tool to evaluate the usefulness of those compounds in device configurations. 相似文献

Optically pure enone 9c, available in three steps from known 6-deoxy D-galactal derivative 7b, reacts with cyanophthalide 6 to directly afford the natural product (-)-hongconin (1), a compound from traditional Chinese medicine recently shown to exhibit antianginal activity. The enantiomer of 1 and its (+)-cis-diastereomer were also synthesized in a parallel fashion from the L-sugar counterpart. The use of C-glycoside Michael acceptors, as opposed to their O-glycoside counterparts, represents a potentially useful simplification of phthalide annulation methodology in synthesizing numerous other such optically pure isochromanquinoids, since it obviates the inconvenience of additional steps late in the synthetic scheme associated with reductive manipulation of a remaining acetal moiety into the desired pyran ring substituent. 相似文献
