The apparent molal volumes of aqueous ZnCl2 and Zn(ClO4)2 solutions have been measured from 15–55°C. The dilute solution data are extrapolated to infinite dilution using the Redlich-Meyer equation. The full concentration range data are fitted with the Pitzer formalism. The data are then compared with the data on the previously measured salts of Mn2+, Fe2+, Co2+, Ni2+, and Cu2+. The effect of complex ion formation is easily seen in the Cu2+ and Zn2+ salt data. A new approach to single ion volumes from salt volumes is proposed. The calculated ionic volumes at infinite dilution are compared, and it is clear that crystal field effects must be considered in any quantitative theory of transition element volumes. 相似文献

A dark-field geometry spectral imaging system is presented to raster scan thick tissue samples in situ in 1.5 cm square sections, recovering full spectra from each 100 μm diameter pixel. This spot size provides adequate resolution for wide field scanning, while also facilitating scatter imaging without requiring sophisticated light-tissue transport modeling. The system is demonstrated showing accurate estimation of localized scatter parameters and the potential to recover absorption-based contrast from broadband reflectance data measured from 480 nm up to 750 nm in tissue phantoms. Results obtained from xenograft pancreas tumors show the ability to quantitatively image changes in localized scatter response in this fast-imaging geometry. The polychromatic raster scan design allows the rapid scanning necessary for use in surgical/clinical applications where timely decisions are required about tissue pathology. 相似文献

We compare the benefits of spatial and spectral priors in near-infrared diffuse tomography image reconstruction. Although previous studies that incorporated anatomical spatial priors have shown improvement in algorithm convergence and resolution, our results indicate that functional parameter quantification by this approach can be suboptimal. The incorporation of a priori spectral information significantly improves the accuracy observed in recovered images. Specifically, phantom results show that the maximum total hemoglobin concentration ([Hb(T)]) in a region of heterogeneity reached 91% of the true value compared to 63% using spatial priors. The combination of both priors produced results accurate to 98% of the true [Hb(T)]. When both spatial and spectral priors were applied in a healthy volunteer, glandular tissue showed a higher [Hb(T)], water fraction, and scattering power compared to adipose tissue. 相似文献

Abstract— The photophysical characteristics of two second-generation PDT photosensitizers, tin ethyl etiopurpurin I (SnET2 ) and tin octaethylbenzochlorin (SnOEBC), have been measured in homogeneous solution and when bound to bovine serum albumin (BSA). The ground state and triplet state absorption spectra have been characterized, as have triplet lifetimes and quantum yields for intersys-tem crossing, singlet oxygen formation and photobleaching. In total, these parameters provide a complete set of data that can be used to quantitatively compare the photosensitizing efficiencies of these molecules. The photo-bleaching quantum yield of SnET2 is increased dramatically when it is bound to BSA, thus limiting the production of singlet oxygen at incident fluences above 1 J/cm2 . In contrast, the quantum yield of photobleaching of SnOEBC is at least an order of magnitude lower than that of SnET2 under these conditions and does not significantly limit the photosensitization process for typical in vivo or in vitro fluences. This difference is expected to play a significant role in determining the relative photosensitizing ability of these compounds in vivo. 相似文献

A near-IR (NIR) tomography system with spectral-encoded sources was built to quantify the temporal contrast in human breast tissue using guidance from magnetic resonance imaging. The systems were integrated with a custom breast coil interface to provide simultaneous acquisition. The NIR signal was synchronized to simultaneous finger pulse oximeter plethysmogram, which offered a frequency reference. A 0.1 s temporal delay of the absorption pulse within adipose tissue relative to fibroglandular tissue was found, in an initial human study, showing the potential for novel contrast imaging of fast flow signals in deep tissue. 相似文献

Better noninvasive techniques are needed to monitor protoporphyrin IX (PpIX) levels before and during photodynamic therapy (PDT) of squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of the skin. Our aim was to evaluate (1) multispectral fluorescent imaging of ultraviolet light (UV)‐induced cancer and precancer in a mouse model of SCC and (2) multispectral imaging and probe‐based fluorescence detection as a tool to study vitamin D (VD) effects on aminolevulinic acid (ALA)‐induced PpIX synthesis. Dorsal skin of hairless mice was imaged weekly during a 24‐week UV carcinogenesis protocol. Hot spots of PpIX fluorescence were detectable by multispectral imaging beginning at 14 weeks of UV exposure. Many hot spots disappeared after cessation of UV at week 20, but others persisted or became visible after week 20, and corresponded to tumors that eventually became visible by eye. In SCC‐bearing mice pretreated with topical VD before ALA application, our optical techniques confirmed that VD preconditioning induces a tumor‐selective increase in PpIX levels. Fluorescence‐based optical imaging of PpIX is a promising tool for detecting early SCC lesions of the skin. Pretreatment with VD can increase the ability to detect early tumors, providing a potential new way to improve efficacy of ALA‐PDT. 相似文献

The network formation and viscoelastic behavior of a liquid crystalline monomer, whose structure includes both acrylate and acetylene reactive groups, have been studied. By combining both photo and thermal polymerization, the networks can be formed in two separate steps, with the initial photopolymerization dominated by acrylate crosslinking and subsequent thermal polymerization dominated by acetylene crosslinking. In addition, the monomer exhibits a liquid crystalline phase. Photopolymerization while in the liquid crystal phase locks in the molecular ordering. Dynamic mechanical analysis shows that networks formed from the liquid crystalline phase have lower crosslink densities and narrower distributions of molecular weights between crosslinks when compared to networks formed from the isotropic phase (and at higher polymerization temperatures). After thermal postcure at 250°C, the networks formed from the isotropic monomer have a 23% higher dynamic mechanical storage modulus (in the glassy state) than the networks formed from the liquid crystalline monomer. Photodynamic therapy (PDT) with verteporfin provides a reliable way to destroy malignant tissues. Changes in the blood flow and oxygen partial pressure (pO2) during verteporfin-PDT were studied here in the tumor tissue of the rat mammary R3230Ac carcinoma model. Oxygen microelectrodes (6-12 microns tip diameter) were used to measure the transients locally within tumors during intravenous injection of 1.0 mg/kg verteporfin followed by irradiation 15 min later with 690 nm light at 200 mW/cm2, for a cumulative dose of 144 J/cm2. The observed changes in pO2 were heterogeneous and there was a difference in the response of low-pO2 regions relative to higher-pO2 regions. The change in pO2 in hypoxic tissue regions (pO2 < 8 mmHg) had acute pO2 loss after treatment, whereas the response in regions of higher pO2 (> 8 mm Hg) was more heterogeneous with some areas maintaining their pO2 value after treatment was completed. Blood flow measurements taken on a subset of the animals indicated a significant loss in flow during the initial light delivery that remained low after treatment, indicating some vascular stasis. The results suggest that hypoxic or poorly perfused vessels may be more susceptible to acute stasis than normoxic vessels in this treatment protocol. 相似文献
