Single stage reactions of 2-formylbenzoic acids with substituted 2-(1-aminoalkyl)phenols and 2-amino-phenylcarbinols give a novel series of isomeric isoindolobenzoxazinones. X-ray analysis was used to study the molecular structure of 9-bromo-5,5-diphenyl-5H-isoindolo[2,1-a][1, 3]benzoxazin-11(6aH)-one and 2-bromo-8,10-dimethyl-10H-isoindolo[1,2-b][1, 3]-benzoxazin-12(4bH)-one.

Recyclization of tosylamino derivatives of 2-aryl-5-benzylfuran to give indoles through two alternative pathways

The recyclization of derivatives of 2-aryl-5-benzylfuran containing a tosylamine fragment to give indoles has been studied. If the tosylamino group is in the ortho position of the aryl substituent, the recyclization proceeds such that the furan ring may be seen as a formal equivalent of a 1,3-diketone. If, on the other hand, the tosylamino group is in the ortho positions of both the aryl and benzyl substituents, the recyclization proceeds through a pathway, in which the furan ring acts as the equivalent of a 1,4-dicarbonyl compound. Elastic and inelastic scattering of 800-MeV protons on <Superscript>16</Superscript>O and <Superscript>20</Superscript>Ne nuclei

Differential cross sections and polarization observables for the elastic and inelastic scattering of 800-MeV protons on ¹⁶O and ²⁰Ne nuclei are calculated on the basis of the theory of multiple diffractive scattering and the α-cluster model involving dispersion. The single-particle nucleon-density distributions obtained within the α-cluster model involving dispersion are used in the calculations. The differential cross sections and polarization calculated for elastic and inelastic p¹⁶O and p²⁰Ne scattering are compatible with available experimental data. The spin-rotation functions calculated for elastic p¹⁶O and p²⁰Ne scattering within the independent-nucleon model differ qualitatively from their counterparts calculated within the α-cluster model involving dispersion.     

Donor excitons in LiH and LiD single crystals

The formation of bound excitons of the donor type was observed in LiH and LiD single crystals activated by 4d or 5d transition elements (Rh, Ru, Ir). The bound excitons were found to form under direct optical excitation of impurity ions.
