Summary: A case-study using macromolecular metal complexes is described. The results of a process named Polymer Assisted Ultrafiltration (PAUF) for ion removal from various types of waters is reported. The water soluble polymers such as polyetilenimine (PEI), polyacrylic acid (PAA), polyacrylic acid sodium salt (PAASS) and poly(dimethylamine–co–epichlorohydrin–co–ethylenediamine) (PDEHED) as chelating agents, the Cu2+ as model ion and five ultrafiltration membranes have been used. The complexing agents were previously tested to establish the binding capacity and the best operating conditions for the process. Among the tested polymers the PEI appeared the most interesting one because its binding mechanism does not involve a counter ion release. It was tested in the simulation of wastewaters treatment containing the Cu2+ ion chelated with citric acid; this is a problem of interest in the recycling of water from soil washing operations. The polyethylenimine quantitatively bound the copper-citrate chelate at pH 5.5 and the three component complex was separated by UF membranes producing a permeate with very low metal concentration. The polymer regeneration was carried out with good results by operating with the diafiltration method. The copper ion present in the diafiltration permeate in a form chelated with citric acid was recovered by oxidising the citrate in a membrane photoreactor. The positive results of the described case-study show that Macromolecule-Metal Complexes play a key role for running effectively and selectively the PAUF process for removing metal ions from various type of waters. 相似文献

Organic thin films deposited by means of radio-frequency glow discharges fed with Triglyme vapors have been investigated to explore the feasibility for deposition of organic thin films with polyethylene oxide-like features. The film chemical composition has been analyzed by means of X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy and FT Infrared Absorption Spectroscopy. Plasma phase diagnostics has been accomplished by means of Optical Emission Spectroscopy. It is shown that the surface density of ether carbon, which is considered the marker of the content of ethylene oxide units in the coating, decreases as the power input is increased. It is also shown that the retention of monomer structure in the film can be easily controlled in situ by actinometric optical emission spectroscopy. 相似文献

Background. The rapid onset of a systemic pro-inflammatory state followed by acute respiratory distress syndrome is the leading cause of mortality in patients with COVID-19. We performed a retrospective observational study to explore the capacity of different complete blood cell count (CBC)-derived inflammation indexes to predict in-hospital mortality in this group. Methods. The neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR), derived NLR (dNLR), platelet to lymphocyte ratio (PLR), mean platelet volume to platelet ratio (MPR), neutrophil to lymphocyte × platelet ratio (NLPR), monocyte to lymphocyte ratio (MLR), systemic inflammation response index (SIRI), systemic inflammation index (SII), and the aggregate index of systemic inflammation (AISI) were calculated on hospital admission in 119 patients with laboratory confirmed COVID-19. Results. Non-survivors had significantly higher AISI, dNLR, NLPR, NLR, SII, and SIRI values when compared to survivors. Similarly, Kaplan–Meier survival curves showed significantly lower survival in patients with higher AISI, dNLR, MLR, NLPR, NLR, SII, and SIRI. However, after adjusting for confounders, only the SII remained significantly associated with survival (HR = 1.0001; 95% CI, 1.0000–1.0001, p = 0.029) in multivariate Cox regression analysis. Conclusions. The SII on admission independently predicts in-hospital mortality in COVID-19 patients and may assist with early risk stratification in this group. 相似文献

The use of readily prepared bisphosphonic acids obtained in few steps through a thio-Michael addition of commercially available thiols on tetraethyl vinylidenebisphosphonate enables the straightforward surface modification of amorphous mesoporous zirconia nanoparticles. Simple stirring of the zirconia nanoparticles in a buffered aqueous solution of the proper bisphosphonic acid leads to the surface functionalization of the nanoparticles with different kinds of functional groups, charge and hydrophobic properties. Formation of both chemisorbed and physisorbed layers of the bisphosphonic acid take place, observing after extensive washing a grafting density of 1.1 molecules/nm2 with negligible release in neutral or acidic pH conditions, demonstrating stronger loading compared to monophosphonate derivatives. The modified nanoparticles were characterized by IR, XPS, ζ-potential analysis to investigate the loading of the bisphosphonic acid, FE-SEM to investigate the size and morphologies of the nanoparticles and 31P and 1H MAS NMR to investigate the coordination motif of the phosphonate units on the surface. All these analytical techniques demonstrated the strong affinity of the bisphosphonic moiety for the Zr(IV) metal centers. The functionalization with bisphosphonic acids represents a straightforward covalent approach for tailoring the superficial properties of zirconia nanoparticles, much straightforward compared the classic use of trisalkoxysilane or trichlorosilane reagents typically employed for the functionalization of silica and metal oxide nanoparticles.
