We search for the decay B0-->rho(0)rho(0) in a data sample of about 227x10(6) Upsilon(4S)-->BB decays collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy e(+)e(-) collider at SLAC. We find no significant signal and set an upper limit of 1.1x10(-6) at 90% C.L. on the branching fraction. As a result, the uncertainty due to penguin contributions on the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa unitarity angle alpha measured in B-->rhorho decays is decreased to 11 degrees at 68% C.L. 相似文献

Geometric phase may enable inherently fault-tolerant quantum computation. However, due to potential decoherence effects, it is important to understand how such phases arise for mixed input states. We report the first experiment to measure mixed-state geometric phases in optics, using a Mach-Zehnder interferometer, and polarization mixed states that are produced in two different ways: decohering pure states with birefringent elements; and producing a nonmaximally entangled state of two photons and tracing over one of them, a form of remote state preparation. 相似文献

We experimentally demonstrate the first quantum system entangled in every degree of freedom (hyperentangled). Using pairs of photons produced in spontaneous parametric down-conversion, we verify entanglement by observing a Bell-type inequality violation in each degree of freedom: polarization, spatial mode, and time energy. We also produce and characterize maximally hyperentangled states and novel states simultaneously exhibiting both quantum and classical correlations. Finally, we report the tomography of a 2 x 2 x 3 x 3 system (36-dimensional Hilbert space), which we believe is the first reported photonic entangled system of this size to be so characterized. 相似文献

We report on a test of Lorentz invariance performed by comparing the resonance frequencies of one stationary optical resonator and one continuously rotating on a precision air bearing turntable. Special attention is paid to the control of rotation induced systematic effects. Within the photon sector of the standard model extension, we obtain improved limits on combinations of 8 parameters at a level of a few parts in 10(-16). For the previously least well known parameter we find [EQUATION: SEE TEXT]. Using correlated photons from parametric down-conversion, we extend the boundaries of experimentally accessible two-qubit Hilbert space. Specifically, we have created and characterized maximally entangled mixed states that lie above the Werner boundary in the linear entropy-tangle plane. In addition, we demonstrate that such states can be efficiently concentrated, simultaneously increasing both the purity and the degree of entanglement. We investigate a previously unsuspected sensitivity imbalance in common state measures, i.e., the tangle, linear entropy, and fidelity. 相似文献

This paper describes the reductive hydrogenolysis of a low-spin (S = 1/2) iron(III) imide. Pseudotetrahedral [PhBP3]FeIIIN-p-tolyl is reduced by hydrogen at ambient temperature and pressure in benzene solution. The reduction appears to proceed in a stepwise fashion. An intermediate S = 2 iron(II) anilide, [PhBP3]Fe(N(H)-p-tolyl), is observed and has been independently generated and structurally characterized. Prolonged hydrogenolysis in benzene results in the complete hydrogenolysis of the Fe-N linkage to release H2N-p-tolyl. The major iron-containing product formed from this step is the diamagnetic cyclohexadienyl complex, [PhBP3]Fe(eta5-cyclohexadienyl), which has also been independently prepared and structurally characterized. Evidence is presented to suggest that the final [PhBP3]Fe(eta5-cyclohexadienyl) product is formed via benzene insertion into a reactive [PhBP3]FeII-H intermediate. 相似文献

The Modulation Sideband Technology for Absolute Ranging (MSTAR) sensor permits absolute distance measurement with subnanometer accuracy, an improvement of 4 orders of magnitude over current techniques. The system uses fast phase modulators to resolve the integer cycle ambiguity of standard interferometers. The concept is described and demonstrated over target distances up to 1 m. Excited state absorption (ESA) in a 1% doped Tm:YLF crystal in the range from 1000 nm to 1300 nm is reported. In this spectral range, three ESA bands are expected: 3F43F2 (from 1040 nm to 1096 nm), 3F43F3 (from 1111 nm to 1169 nm), and 3H41G4 (from 1118 nm to 1240 nm). In a conventional continuous wave ESA setup only the first two bands are observed because the lifetime of the 3F4 level is much longer (15.6 ms) than the lifetime of the 3H4 level (1.56 ms). In order to observe the 3H41G4 ESA band, pump modulation dependent measurements were performed, where the modulation frequency of the pump selects the ESA signal to be measured. We report a new type of short-range order correlations at the (001) surface of Cu3Au which no longer produces the 2k(F)-splitting characteristic for the bulk short-range order scattering. We present the temperature dependence of this phenomenon and a theoretical interpretation of its origin.
