An extensive series of conjugated (porphinato)zinc(II)-based chromophores featuring nitrothiophenyl and nitrooligothiophenyl electron-accepting moieties has been synthesized using metal-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions involving [5-bromo-15-triisopropylsilylethynyl-10,20-diarylporphinato]zinc(II) and an unusual electron-rich Suzuki-porphyrin synthon, [5-(4-dimethylaminophenylethynyl)-15-(4',4',5',5'-tetramethyl[1',3',2']dioxaborolan-2'-yl)-10,20-diarylporphinato]zinc(II), with appropriately functionalized aryl and thienyl precursors. These donor-acceptor chromophores feature thiophenyl, [2,2']bithiophenyl, and [2,2';5',2' ']terthiophenyl units terminated with a 5-nitro group; one series of structures features these acceptor moieties appended directly to the porphyrin macrocycle meso-carbon position, while a second set utilizes an intervening meso-ethynyl moiety to modify porphyrin-to-thiophene conjugation. The dynamic hyperpolarizability of these compounds was determined from hyper-Rayleigh light scattering (HRS) measurements carried out at fundamental incident irradiation wavelengths (lambda(inc)) of 800 and 1300 nm; interestingly, measured beta(1300) values ranged from 650 --> 4350 x 10(-30) esu. The combined linear and nonlinear optical properties of these compounds challenge the classical concept of the nonlinearity/transparency tradeoff in charge-transfer chromophores: the magnitude of the molecular hyperpolarizability is observed to vary substantially despite approximately uniform ground-state absorptive signatures for a given porphyrin-to-thiophene linkage topology. These data show that these neutral dipolar molecules can express substantial beta(1300) values; such conjugated, electronically asymmetric porphyrin-thiophene chromophores may thus find utility for electrooptic applications at telecom-relevant wavelengths.  相似文献

Arsenic compounds are ubiquitous and widespread in the environment as a result of natural or anthropogenic occurrence. Fish are the major source of protein for human consumption. They are also a source of contamination, because of the amounts of heavy elements they can contain, some of which are highly toxic. Fish bones are high in calcium, which is an essential mineral for normal body function. It consists of water, organic material, and mineral matter. Chelating agents have been used clinically as antidotes for acute and chronic metal intoxications. In the present study, an attempt is made to investigate the bio-accumulation of arsenic and its effect on the biochemical and mineral contents of Labeo rohita bones using, Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy. The results of the present study indicate that arsenic exposure induces significant reduction on the biochemical and mineral contents of the L. rohita bones. Further, the DMSA treatment significantly improves these levels. This shows that DMSA is an effective chelator for arsenic toxicity. Quantitative curve-fitting analyses of amide I band have proved useful in studying the nature and the extent of protein conformational changes. A decrease in α-helical and random coil structures and an increase in β-sheet structures have been observed due to arsenic exposure. In conclusion, the present study shows that the FT-IR spectroscopy coupled with second derivative and curve-fitting analysis gives useful information about the biochemical and mineral contents of the L. rohita bones.  相似文献

Zinc is an essential metal for different physiological functions and becomes toxic when elevated concentrations are introduced into the environment. In the present study, an attempt is made to analyze zinc-induced biochemical changes in the liver tissues of freshwater fingerlings of Labeo rohita using Fourier Transformation Infrared Spectroscopy. Several important features have been observed in the FTIR spectra of zinc-intoxicated liver tissues, namely, altered membrane lipid, altered protein profile, and increased glycogen content, indicating an alteration in the lipid and protein profiles leading to modification in membrane composition. Further, it is observed that acute exposure to zinc causes some alteration in protein profile with a decrease in α-helix and an increase in random coil structure. Treatment with the chelating agent D-penicillamine reduces the biochemical contents in the liver tissues. This shows that D-penicillamine is a good antidote for zinc toxicity. The mixed electric-magnetic second-order nonlinear optical responses of oriented films of helicenes have been computed ab initio using the random phase approximation method and compared to the pure electric-dipole counterpart. It turns out that the mixed electric-magnetic responses can be of the same order of magnitude as the pure electric-dipole counterpart when there is no donor/acceptor (D/A) substituent or these D/A pairs are weak, i.e., when the pure electric-dipole response is small. When adding strong D/A substituents, the pure electric-dipole response increases substantially and much more than its mixed electric-magnetic counterpart. Consequently, the ratio between the mixed electric-magnetic and pure electric responses decreases. Although there is no general rule, the mixed responses evolve as a function of substitution quasi similarly to the pure electric contribution. This study confirms therefore the possibility of tuning the mixed electric-magnetic response by employing appropriate chiral molecules.  相似文献

The coating layer of a steel welding wire has been removed and studied by57Fe Mössbauer spectroscopy at different temperatures and at 5 K in an applied magnetic field of 60 koe. The subspectrum of the metallic phase is typical for a low-carbon steel. The coating phase cannot be identified as any known modification of iron oxide or oxyhydroxide. The spectral features rather suggest that it consists of an amorphous ferric material similar to a ferric gel.  相似文献

The angular dependence of the hyper-Rayleigh scattered light intensity from a suspension of bacteriorhodopsin has been analyzed. The observation calls for combination of the second-order nonlinear hyperpolarizability of the retinal chromophore with the linear refractive index of the apo-protein matrix. The structuring of the small nonlinear chromophore in the large linear matrix imparts properties of a photonic bandgap to bacteriorhodopsin.  相似文献

The second-order nonlinear optical coefficients associated with chirality differ in sign for the two mirror-image forms (enantiomers) of a chiral material. Structures comprised of alternating stacks of the enantiomers can therefore be used for quasi-phase-matched frequency conversion, as we demonstrate here by second-harmonic generation from Langmuir-Blodgett films of a helicenebisquinone. Such structures could lead to new types of frequency converters in which both the second-order nonlinear response and quasi-phase-matching arise from the chirality of a material rather than its polar order.  相似文献

Abstract

The synthesis of a novel class of molecules for second order nonlinear optics, i.e. calix[4]arenes with extended π-systems, is described. These compounds are obtained via Wittig-Horner reactions of the formylated calix[4]arenes 5 and 6 to give the stilbene derivatives 7–9, or by diazotization of calix[4]arene, 1, followed by alkylation to give the phenylazocalix[4]arenes 11 and 12. The molecular second order nonlinear optical properties (βz) of these calix[4]arenes have been measured by electric field-induced second harmonic generation. The influence of different acceptors as well as the influence of the different conformations of the calix[4]arenes on βz values were determined. Surprisingly, the wavelength of the charge-transfer band λmax is lower when βz increases upon increasing the number of acceptors.  相似文献
