This paper presents an experimental and numerical study of the folding behavior of thin composite materials consisting of carbon fibers embedded in a silicone matrix. The soft matrix allows the fibers to microbuckle without breaking and this acts as a stress relief mechanism during folding, which allows the material to reach very high curvatures. The experiments show a highly non-linear moment vs. curvature relationship, as well as strain softening under cyclic loading. A finite element model has been created to study the micromechanics of the problem. The fibers are modeled as linear-elastic solid elements distributed in a hyperelastic matrix according to a random arrangement based on experimental observations. The simulations obtained from this model capture the detailed micromechanics of the problem and the experimentally observed non-linear response. The proposed model is in good quantitative agreement with the experimental results for the case of lower fiber volume fractions but in the case of higher volume fractions the predicted response is overly stiff.  相似文献

Organosulfur compounds with multiple thiol groups are promising for high gravimetric energy density electrochemical energy storage. We have synthesized a poly(2,5-dimercapto-1,3,4-thiadiazole) (PDMcT)/poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) composite cathode for lithium-ion batteries with a new method and investigated its electrochemical behavior by charge/discharge cycles and cyclic voltammetry (CV) in an ether-based electrolyte. Based on a comparison of the electrochemical performance with a carbonate-based electrolyte, we found a much higher discharge capacity, but also a very attractive cycling performance of PDMcT by using a tetra(ethylene glycol) dimethyl ether (TEGDME)-based electrolyte. The first discharge capacity of the as-synthesized PDMcT/PEDOT composite approached 210 mAh g(-1) in the TEGDME-based electrolyte. CV results clearly show that the redox reactions of PDMcT are highly reversible in this TEGDME-based electrolyte. The reversible capacity remained around 120 mAh g(-1) after 20 charge/discharge cycles. With improved cycling performance and very low cost, PDMcT could become a very promising cathode material when combined with a TEGDME-based electrolyte. The poor capacity in the carbonate-based electrolyte is a consequence of the irreversible reaction of the DMcT monomer and dimer with the solvent, emphasizing the importance of electrolyte chemistry when studying molecular-based battery materials.  相似文献

Often, deregulation of protein activity and turnover by tyrosine nitration drives cells toward pathogenesis. Hence, understanding how the nitration of a protein affects both its function and stability is of outstanding interest. Nowadays, most of the in vitro analyses of nitrated proteins rely on chemical treatment of native proteins with an excess of a chemical reagent. One such reagent, peroxynitrite, stands out for its biological relevance. However, given the excess of the nitrating reagent, the resulting in vitro modification could differ from the physiological nitration. Here, we determine unequivocally the configuration of distinct nitrated-tyrosine rings in single-tyrosine mutants of cytochrome?c. We aimed to confirm the nitration position by a non-destructive method. Thus, we have resorted to (1)H-(15)N heteronuclear single quantum coherence(HSQC) spectra to identify the (3)J(N?H) correlation between a (15)N-tagged nitro group and the adjacent aromatic proton. Once the chemical shift of this proton was determined, we compared the (1)H-(13)C HSQC spectra of untreated and nitrated samples. All tyrosines were nitrated at ε positions, in agreement to previous analysis by indirect techniques. Notably, the various nitrotyrosine residues show a different dynamic behaviour that is consistent with molecular dynamics computations.  相似文献

A new type of nanomaterial has been developed as antibacterial additive for food packaging applications. This nanocomposite is composed of copper nanoparticles embedded in polylactic acid, combining the antibacterial properties of copper nanoparticles with the biodegradability of the polymer matrix. Metal nanoparticles have been synthesised by means of laser ablation, a rising and easy route to prepare nanostructures without any capping agent in a liquid environment. As prepared, nanoparticle suspensions have been easily mixed to a polymer solution. The resulting hybrid solutions have been deposited by drop casting, thus obtaining self-standing antibacterial packages. All samples have been characterized by UV–Vis spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and electro-thermal atomic absorption spectroscopy. Ion release data have been matched with bioactivity tests performed by Japanese Industrial Standard (JIS) method (JIS Z 2801:2000) against Pseudomonas spp., a very common Gram-negative microbial group able to proliferate in processed food.  相似文献

Background

Parkinson??s disease is characterized by a continuous loss of neurons within the substantia nigra (SN) leading to a depletion of dopamine. Within the adult SN as a non-neurogenic region, cells with mainly oligodendrocytic precursor characteristics, expressing the neuro-glial antigen-2 (NG2) are continuously generated. Proliferation of these cells is altered in animal models of Parkinson??s disease (PD). Exercise and environmental enrichment re-increase proliferation of NG2+ cells in PD models, however, a possible mechanistic role of dopamine for this increase is not completely understood. NG2+ cells can differentiate into oligodendrocytes but also into microglia and neurons as observed in vitro suggesting a possible hint for endogenous regenerative capacity of the SN. We investigated the role of dopamine in NG2-generation and differentiation in the adult SN stimulated by physical activity and environmental enrichment.

Results

We used the 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine (MPTP)-model for dopamine depletion and analysed newborn cells in the SN at different maturation stages and time points depending on voluntary physical activity, enriched environment and levodopa-treatment. We describe an activity- induced increase of new NG2-positive cells and also mature oligodendrocytes in the SN of healthy mice. Running and enriched environment refused to stimulate NG2-generation and oligodendrogenesis in MPTP-mice, an effect which could be reversed by pharmacological levodopa-induced rescue.

Conclusion

We suggest dopamine being a key regulator for activity-induced generation of NG2-cells and oliogodendrocytes in the SN as a potentially relevant mechanism in endogenous nigral cellular plasticity.  相似文献

The yellowing of paper on aging causes major aesthetic damages of cultural heritage. It is due to cellulose oxidation, a complex process with many possible products still to be clarified. By comparing ultraviolet-visible reflectance spectra of ancient and artificially aged modern papers with ab?initio time-dependent density functional theory calculations, we identify and estimate the abundance of oxidized functional groups acting as chromophores and responsible of paper yellowing. This knowledge can be used to set up strategies and selective chemical treatments preventing paper yellowing.  相似文献

We here exploit pH-responsive nanogels as carriers to deliver functional anti-GFP siRNA and superparamagnetic IONPs to HeLa-GFP cells. The siRNA release via pH-mediated endosomal escape is shown. The main goal of this paper is to characterize arbitrary nonlinear (non-multilinear) mappings ${f:X_{1}\times\cdots\times X_{n}\rightarrow Y}$ between Banach spaces that satisfy a quite natural Pietsch Domination-type theorem around a given point ${(a_{1},\ldots,a_{n})\in X_{1}\times\cdots\times X_{n}}$ . Two diastereoselective and straightforward protocols for the high-yielding synthesis of 2,3-trans- and 2,3-cis-6-methoxy-3-substituted morpholine-2-carboxylic esters were realized in few steps, through the condensation between 5,6-diethoxy-5,6-dimethyl-1,4-dioxan-2-one and an appropriate imine, which is the key reaction to control the C2-C3 relative stereochemistry, followed by a methanolysis/ring-closure tandem reaction sequence. In particular, 2,3-trans-morpholines derive from the R*,S*-product of the acid condensation of N-functionalized alkylimines with the silylketene acetal of the above lactone, whereas 2,3-cis-morpholines derive from the R*,R*-product of basic condensation of an N-tosylimines with the lactone.  相似文献
