In this work, 102 fragments of Marajoara ceramics, belonging to the National Museum collection (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), were analyzed using energy dispersive X‐ray fluorescence (EDXRF) and principal component analysis (PCA) in order to identify possible groups of samples that present similar behaviors or different characteristics. This information will give an important aid to a more accurate classification of these artifacts. The EDXRF measurements were carried out with a portable system developed in the Nuclear Instrumentation Laboratory consisting of an Oxford TF3005 X‐ray tube, with W anode, and an Si‐PIN XR‐100CR detector from Amptek, working at 25 kV and 100 µA, acquisition time of 600 s and a beam collimation of 2 mm. The cosmological constant problem is examined within the context of the covariant brane-world gravity, based on Nash’s embedding
theorem for Riemannian geometries. We show that the vacuum structure of the brane-world is more complex than General Relativity’s
because it involves extrinsic elements, in specific, the extrinsic curvature. In other words, the shape (or local curvature)
of an object becomes a relative concept, instead of the “absolute shape” of General Relativity. We point out that the immediate
consequence is that the cosmological constant and the energy density of the vacuum quantum fluctuations have different physical
meanings: while the vacuum energy density remains confined to the four-dimensional brane-world, the cosmological constant
is a property of the bulk’s gravitational field that leads to the conclusion that these quantities cannot be compared, as
it is usually done in General Relativity. Instead, the vacuum energy density contributes to the extrinsic curvature, which
in turn generates Nash’s perturbation of the gravitational field. On the other hand, the cosmological constant problem ceases
to be in the brane-world geometry, reappearing only in the limit where the extrinsic curvature vanishes. 相似文献

It is now accepted that the physical forces in ultrasonic cleaning are due to strongly pulsating bubbles driven by the sound field. Here we have a detailed look at bubble induced cleaning flow by analyzing the transport of an individual particle near an expanding and collapsing bubble. The induced particulate transport is compared with a force balance model. We find two important properties of the flow which explain why bubbles are effectively cleaning: During bubble expansion a strong shear layer loosens the particle from the surface through particle spinning and secondly an unsteady boundary layer generates an attractive force, thus collecting the contamination in the bubble's close proximity. 相似文献

The big trip is a cosmological process thought to occur in the future by which the entire universe would be engulfed inside a gigantic wormhole and might travel through it along space and time. In this Letter we discuss different arguments that have been raised against the viability of that process, reaching the conclusions that the process can actually occur by accretion of phantom energy onto the wormholes and that it is stable and might occur in the global context of a multiverse model. Despite the importance of a complete characterization of dendritic patterns in castings, the availability of studies on the development of tertiary dendrite arms is scarce in the literature. In the present study, the tip cooling rate, local solidification time, primary and tertiary dendrite arm spacings have been determined in Pb–Sb alloys castings directionally solidified under unsteady-state heat flow conditions. The alloys compositions experimentally examined are widely used in the as-cast condition for the manufacture of positive and negative grids of lead-acid batteries. The initial growth of tertiary dendritic arms from the secondary branches was found to occur only for a Pb–3.5 wt% Sb alloy at cooling rates in the range 0.4–0.2?K/s, with no evidence of this spacing pattern for Pb–Sb alloys having lower solute content. Tertiary dendritic branches have been observed along the entire casting lengths for alloys of the Pb–Sb hypoeutectic range having compositions higher than 4.0 wt% Sb. It is shown that a power function experimental law with a characteristic ?0.55 exponent is able to characterize the tertiary spacing evolution with the solidification cooling rate for alloys compositions ≥4.0 wt% Sb. The only exception was the Pb–3.5 wt% Sb alloy for which λ 3 exhibited significant lower values when compared with the experimental values obtained for the other Pb–Sb alloys for a same solidification cooling rate. 相似文献

Ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE) and microwave-assisted extraction (MAE) techniques have been employed as complementary techniques to extract oils from vegetable sources, viz, soybean germ and a cultivated marine microalga rich in docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). Ultrasound (US) devices developed by ourselves, working at several frequencies (19, 25, 40 and 300 kHz), were used for US-based protocols, while a multimode microwave (MW) oven (operating with both open and closed vessels) was used for MAE. Combined treatments were also studied, such as simultaneous double sonication (at 19 and 25 kHz) and simultaneous US/MW irradiation, achieved by inserting a non-metallic horn in a MW oven. Extraction times and yields were compared with those resulting from conventional procedures. With soybean germ the best yield was obtained with a ‘cavitating tube’ prototype (19 kHz, 80 W), featuring a thin titanium cylinder instead of a conventional horn. Double sonication, carried out by inserting an immersion horn (25 kHz) in the same tube, improved the yield only slightly but halved the extraction time. Almost comparable yields were achieved by closed-vessel MAE and simultaneous US/MW irradiation. Compared with conventional methods, extraction times were reduced by up to 10-fold and yields increased by 50–500%. In the case of marine microalgae, UAE worked best, as the disruption by US of the tough algal cell wall considerably improved the extraction yield from 4.8% in soxhlet to 25.9%. Our results indicate that US and MW, either alone or combined, can greatly improve the extraction of bioactive substances, achieving higher efficiency and shorter reaction times at low or moderate costs, with minimal added toxicity. 相似文献
