Density functional calculations show that aquation of [Os(eta6-arene)(XY)Cl]n+ complexes is more facile for complexes in which XY=an anionic O,O-chelated ligand compared to a neutral N,N-chelated ligand, and the mechanism more dissociative in character. The O,O-chelated XY=maltolato (mal) [M(eta6-p-cym)(mal)Cl] complexes, in which p-cym=p-cymene, M=OsII (1) and RuII (2), were synthesised and the X-ray crystal structures of 1 and 22 H2O determined. Their hydrolysis rates were rapid (too fast to follow by NMR spectroscopy). The aqua adduct of the OsII complex 1 was 1.6 pKa units more acidic than that of the RuII complex 2. Dynamic NMR studies suggested that O,O-chelate ring opening occurs on a millisecond timescale in coordinating proton-donor solvents, and loss of chelated mal in aqueous solution led to the formation of the hydroxo-bridged dimers [(eta6-p-cym)M(mu-OH)3M(eta6-p-cym)]+. The proportion of this dimer in solutions of the OsII complex 1 increased with dilution and it predominated at micromolar concentrations, even in the presence of 0.1 M NaCl (conditions close to those used for cytotoxicity testing). Although 9-ethylguanine (9-EtG) binds rapidly to Os(II) in 1 and more strongly (log K=4.4) than to RuII in 2 (log K=3.9), the OsII adduct [Os(eta6-p-cym)(mal)(9EtG)]+ was unstable with respect to formation of the hydroxo-bridged dimer at micromolar concentrations. Such insights into the aqueous solution chemistry of metal-arene complexes under biologically relevant conditions will aid the rational design of organometallic anticancer agents.  相似文献

Experiments are conducted to test extant theory on the effect of uniform rotation on the angle of conical beam wave propagation excited by a sphere vertically oscillating at frequency in a density stratified fluid. The near-constant Brunt–Väisälä frequency stratification N produced in situ in a rotating cylindrical tank exhibits no effect of residual motion for the range of Froude numbers investigated. Good agreement between experiment and theory is found over the range of angles 15°<<65° using the synthetic schlieren visualization technique. In particular, the cut-off for wave propagation at =2, below which waves do not propagate, is clearly observed.  相似文献

We develop the axisymmetric Synthetic Schlieren technique to study the wake of a microscale sphere settling through a density stratification. A video-microscope was used to magnify and image apparent displacements of a micron-sized random-dot pattern. Due to the nature of the wake, density gradient perturbations in the horizontal greatly exceed those in the vertical, requiring modification of previously developed axisymmetric techniques. We present results for 780 and 383 μm spheres, and describe the limiting role of noise in the system for a 157 μm sphere. This technique can be instrumental in understanding a range of ecological and environmental oceanic processes on the microscale.

Advances in nanoscience are critically dependent on the ability to control and probe chemical and physical phenomena in confined geometries. A key challenge is to identify confinement structures with high surface area to volume ratios and controlled surface boundaries that can be probed quantitatively at the molecular level. Herein we report an approach for probing molecular structures within nano- to microscale pores by the application of spontaneous Raman spectroscopy. We demonstrate the method by characterization of the structural features of picomole quantities of well-organized octadecyltrichlorosilane (OTS) monolayers self-assembled on the interior pore surfaces of high aspect ratio (1 μm diameter × 1-10 cm length), near-atomically smooth silica microstructured optical fibers (MOFs). The simple Raman backscattering collection geometry employed is well suited for a wide variety of diagnostic applications as demonstrated by tracking the combustion of the hydrocarbon chains of the OTS self-assembled monolayer (SAM) and spectral confirmation of the formation of an adsorbed monolayer of human serum albumin (HSA) protein. Using this MOF Raman approach, molecular processes in precisely defined, highly confined geometries can be probed at high pressures and temperatures, with a wide range of excitation wavelengths from the visible to the near-IR, and under other external perturbations such as electric and magnetic fields.  相似文献

The variation of the Judd-Ofelt parameters across the isostructural series of ions, [LnW10O35]7- is considered. The parameters are shown to vary in the manner predicted by the Judd-Ofelt theory involving only a static intensity—gaining mechanism. parameters are shown to vary randomly. The results are contrasted with those previously published for Ln3+ doped in Y2O3. The variation of for the lanthanide aquo ions is briefly discussed.  相似文献
