Integral resource capacity planning for inpatient care services based on bed census predictions by hour

The design and operations of inpatient care facilities are typically largely historically shaped. A better match with the changing environment is often possible, and even inevitable due to the pressure on hospital budgets. Effectively organizing inpatient care requires simultaneous consideration of several interrelated planning issues. Also, coordination with upstream departments like the operating theatre and the emergency department is much-needed. We present a generic analytical approach to predict bed census on nursing wards by hour, as a function of the Master Surgical Schedule and arrival patterns of emergency patients. Along these predictions, insight is gained on the impact of strategic (ie, case mix, care unit size, care unit partitioning), tactical (ie, allocation of operating room time, misplacement rules), and operational decisions (ie, time of admission/discharge). The method is used in the Academic Medical Center Amsterdam as a decision-support tool in a complete redesign of the inpatient care operations.     

Ag8SnSe6 argyrodite synthesis and optical properties

The Ag₈SnSe₆ argyrodite compound was synthesized by the direct melting of the elementary Ag, Sn and Se high purity grade stoichiometric mixture in a sealed silica ampoule. The prepared polycrystalline material was characterized by the X-ray diffraction (XRD), visible (VIS) and near-infrared (NIR) reflection and photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy. XRD showed that the Ag₈SnSe₆ crystallizes in orthorhombic structure, Pmn2₁ space group with lattice parameters: а = 7.89052(6) Å, b = 7.78976(6) Å, c = 11.02717(8) Å. Photoluminescence spectra of the Ag₈SnSe₆ polycrystalline wafer show two bands at 1675 nm and 1460 nm. Absorption edge position estimated from optical reflectance spectra is located in the 1413–1540 nm wavelength range.     

On the infrared behavior of Landau gauge Yang–Mills theory

We discuss the properties of ghost and gluon propagators in the deep infrared momentum region of Landau gauge Yang–Mills theory. Within the framework of Dyson–Schwinger equations and the functional renormalization group we demonstrate that it is only a matter of infrared boundary conditions whether infrared scaling or decoupling occurs. We argue that the second possibility is at odds with global BRST symmetry in the confining phase. For this purpose we improve upon existing truncation schemes in particular with respect to transversality and renormalization.     

Über Ausgleichsvorgänge in der Maxwell-Flüssigkeit

Zusammenfassung Es werden die allgemeinen Ausgleichsvorg?nge in der Maxwell-Flüssigkeit, die sich zwischen zwei unbegrenzten parallelen Ebenen befindet, untersucht. Ein spezieller Ausgleichsvorgang — die „Rückfederung“ der Substanz bei der Entlastung — wird eingehend behandelt, und die Anwendung dieses Vorganges für die Bestimmung der Relaxationszeit einer elasto-viskosen Substanz, sowie zur Prüfung der Frage, ob und inwiefern es sich dabei um das Maxwellsche Verhalten handelt, diskutiert. Entsprechende, von W. Meskat durchgeführte experimentelle Messungen werden anschlie?end besprochen. Vortrag, gehalten auf der Arbeitssitzung des Fachausschusses für Rheologie im VDI am 5. 3. 1954 in Marburg/Lahn.     

Evidence for spinodal decomposition in nuclear multifragmentation

Multifragmentation of a "fused system" was observed for central collisions between 32 MeV/nucleon 129Xe and (nat)Sn. Most of the resulting charged products were well identified due to the high performances of the INDRA 4pi array. Experimental higher-order charge correlations for fragments show a weak but nonambiguous enhancement of events with nearly equal-sized fragments. Supported by dynamical calculations in which spinodal decomposition is simulated, this observed enhancement is interpreted as a "fossil" signal of spinodal instabilities in finite nuclear systems.     

Zur Theorie der Ähnlichkeitsübertragung bei Transportvorgängen in nicht-Newtonschen Stoffen

Zusammenfassung Rheologische Stoffgleichungen besitzen trotz ihrer Vielfältigkeit eine einheitliche dimensionstheoretische Struktur. Es ist deshalb möglich, über die Transportvorgänge in nicht-Newtonschen Medien gewisse allgemeingültige Aussagen zu machen, die auch für die Probleme der Ähnlichkeitsübertragung entscheidend sind. Die Arbeit schließt mit einer kritischen Diskussion desOstwald de-Waeleschen Reibungsgesetzes.

Summary In spite of their variety, rheological equations of state possess a uniform dimension-analytical structure. It is therefore possible to establish universally valid statements, about transport processes in non-Newtonian media, which are also decisive for application of the theory of similarity. The paper winds up with a critical discussion ofOstwald de-Waels constitutive equation.

     

Cobalt(III)-Gemischtligandenkomplexe mit Ethylendiamin und Ethylendiamintetraacetat bzw. Diamincyclohexantriacetat

Mixed-ligand Complexes of Cobalt(III) with Ethylenediamine and Ethylenediamine Tetraacetate or Diaminecyclohexane Triacetate Ethylenediamine replaces two carboxyl groups of ethylenediamine tetraacetato cobaltate(III), Coedta^?, two remaining ones attached on different N atoms being coordinated each trans to other. This follows from the X-ray analysis of [Co(H₂edta)en]ClO₄ · 3 H₂O, preparation of which as well as the corresponding chloride is described. The cis(O)- and trans(O)-(hydrogen-1,2-diaminecyclohexane triacetato)ethylenediamine cobalt(III) perchlorates are synthesized and characterized by the IR, UV and visible spectra and the potentiometric titration.
