Human protozoan diseases represent a serious health problem worldwide, affecting mainly people in social and economic vulnerability. These diseases have attracted little investment in drug discovery, which is reflected in the limited available therapeutic arsenal. Authorized drugs present problems such as low efficacy in some stages of the disease or toxicity, which result in undesirable side effects and treatment abandonment. Moreover, the emergence of drug-resistant parasite strains makes necessary an even greater effort to develop safe and effective antiparasitic agents. Among the chemotypes investigated for parasitic diseases, the indole nucleus has emerged as a privileged molecular scaffold for the generation of new drug candidates. In this review, the authors provide an overview of the indole-based compounds developed against important parasitic diseases, namely malaria, trypanosomiasis and leishmaniasis, by focusing on the design, optimization and synthesis of the most relevant synthetic indole scaffolds recently reported.  相似文献

The study of network formation during the curing of an epoxy-resin with anhydride and tertiary amine has been carried out by the Monte Carlo method. Both dynamical and structural properties are studied. The model resembles the well known cluster-cluster aggregation: the reaction is modelled as a “geometrical” phenomenon and neglects attractive and repulsive energies except for an excluded volume condition. A reaction occurs always when two active sites are in the vicinity to each other, meaning that the “chemical” processes are taken to be much faster than diffusion (as in diffusion-limited aggregation). Results are presented of two-dimensional square lattice simulations with periodic boundary conditions and are discussed with respect to the proposed mechanism of the curing reaction and to the assumptions of the diffusion-limited nature of the processes. The scope and limitations of such two-dimensional simulations are discussed.  相似文献

Treatment of polluted soil is one of the priorities in the search of a more sustainable planet. Electrochemically assisted soil remediation has been considered a good option for removing organic contaminants contained in soil, including the removal of volatile organic compounds, associated with gaseous streams produced during the treatment. Also, recently, electrochemical gas treatment technologies have been appointed as promising for the treatment of volatile organic compounds. In this work, we review the current opinion about the most recent studies in both areas. The first section focuses on the production of gaseous compounds during soil remediation by conventional and electrochemical systems. The second section describes the recent progress in the integration of adsorption and absorption with electrochemical processes. Finally, we discuss the holistic application of assisted electrochemical technologies in soil remediation, considering also emerging processes recently published in the literature.  相似文献

Phenolic compounds (PCs) present in foods are associated with a decreased risk of developing inflammatory diseases. The aim of this study was to extract and characterize PCs from craft beer powder and evaluate their potential benefits in an experimental model of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). PCs were extracted and quantified from pure beer samples. BALB/c mice received either the beer phenolic extract (BPE) or beer powder fortified with phenolic extract (BPFPE) of PCs daily for 20 days by gavage. Colon samples were collected for histopathological and immunohistochemical analyses. Dextran sodium sulfate (DSS)-induced mice lost more weight, had reduced colon length, and developed more inflammatory changes compared with DSS-induced mice treated with either BPE or BPFPE. In addition, in DSS-induced mice, the densities of CD4- and CD11b-positive cells, apoptotic rates, and activation of NF-κB and p-ERK1/2 MAPK intracellular signaling pathways were higher in those treated with BPE and BPFPE than in those not treated. Pretreatment with the phenolic extract and BPFPE remarkably attenuated DSS-induced colitis. The protective effect of PCs supports further investigation and development of therapies for human IBD.  相似文献

In this article we propose a 0-1 optimization model to determine a crop rotation schedule for each plot in a cropping area. The rotations have the same duration in all the plots and the crops are selected to maximize plot occupation. The crops may have different production times and planting dates. The problem includes planting constraints for adjacent plots and also for sequences of crops in the rotations. Moreover, cultivating crops for green manuring and fallow periods are scheduled into each plot. As the model has, in general, a great number of constraints and variables, we propose a heuristics based on column generation. To evaluate the performance of the model and the method, computational experiments using real-world data were performed. The solutions obtained indicate that the method generates good results.  相似文献

The influence of hydrogen loading temperature on the mechanical strength of optical fibers is investigated. Fibers subjected to high-pressure hydrogen loading at different temperatures were submitted to bend tests, and the results compared with those for pristine fibers. The Weibull probability distribution function was used to analyze the data of the mechanical bending strength of the fibers. Fiber strength is reduced by the presence of hydrogen, and this decrease is greater for higher hydrogen loading temperatures. The mechanical properties of the polymers used to coat fibers are affected by the hydrogen loading process and also by the increase in temperature. However, there is no evidence of cracks formation that might allow water to penetrate to the surface of the glass. Observation using scanning electron microscopy revealed that the morphology of fractures in nonhydrogen-loaded fibers have distinct fracture characteristics to that of fibers that are hydrogen loaded at 90°C and 120°C.  相似文献
