The synthesis of the first series of 5-alkoxy-1,3-thiazole-based liquid crystals is reported. The aforementioned liquid crystals were synthesised through a Lawesson's reagent-mediated cyclisation of appropriate α-benzamido esters. This methodology was found to be highly efficient, even on a large scale, and the resulting 5-alkoxy-1,3-thiazoles could be purified without the use of column chromatography. The synthesis and mesomorphic properties of a family of 5-alkoxy-2-(4-cyanophenyl)-1,3-thiazole liquid crystals prepared via this approach are discussed and compared with their thiophene and phenyl analogues.  相似文献

Bacteria play a significant role in both human health and disease. An estimated 9.4 million cases of foodborne illness occur in the United States each year. As a result, rapid identification and characterization of microorganisms remains an important research objective. Despite limitations, selective culturing retains a central role among a cadre of identification strategies. For the past decade, separations-based approaches to rapid bacterial identification have been under investigation. Gradient insulator dielectrophoresis (g-iDEP) promises benefits in the form of rapid and specific separation of very similar bacteria, including serotypes of a single species. Furthermore, this approach allows simultaneous concentration of analyte, facilitating detection and downstream analysis. Differentiation of three serotypes or strains of Escherichia coli bacteria is demonstrated within a single g-iDEP microchannel, based on their characteristic electrokinetic properties. Whole cells were captured and concentrated using a range of applied potentials, which generated average electric fields between 160 and 470 V/cm. Bacteria remained viable after exposure to these fields, as determined by cellular motility. These results indicate the potential g-iDEP holds in terms of both separatory power and the possibility for diagnostic applications.  相似文献

A self-assembled Fe4L6 cage complex internally decorated with acid functions is capable of accelerating the thioetherification of activated alcohols, ethers and amines by up to 1000-fold. No product inhibition is seen, and effective supramolecular catalysis can occur with as little as 5 % cage. The substrates are bound in the host with up to micromolar affinities, whereas the products show binding that is an order of magnitude weaker. Most importantly, the cage host alters the molecularity of the reaction: whereas the reaction catalyzed by simple acids is a unimolecular, SN1-type substitution process, the rate of the host-mediated process is dependent on the concentration of nucleophile. The molecularity of the cage-catalyzed reaction is substrate-dependent, and can be up to bimolecular. In addition, the catalysis can be prevented by a large excess of nucleophile, where substrate inhibition dominates, and the use of tritylated anilines as substrates causes a negative feedback loop, whereby the liberated product destroys the catalyst and stops the reaction.  相似文献

Firstly, the synchronization problem of the simplest two-component Hartley chaotic systems is considered. A simple and effective controller is used to achieve synchronization between the drive and response systems. The proposed controller is built around a linear and a nonlinear parts with each contributing to the achievement of the synchronization process. The stability of the drive–response systems framework is proved through the Lyapunov stability theory. Secondly, the impact of channel on the signal coming from the drive system to synchronize the response system is taken into consideration. In this second part, the conditions to obtain synchronization between both master and slave systems are investigated. For the purpose of illustration, PSpice simulations are given as complement of the numerical analysis.  相似文献

In this article, an ALE finite element method to simulate the partial melting of a workpiece of metal is presented. The model includes the heat transport in both the solid and liquid part, fluid flow in the liquid phase by the Navier–Stokes equations, tracking of the melt interface solid/liquid by the Stefan condition, treatment of the capillary boundary accounting for surface tension effects and a radiative boundary condition. We show that an accurate treatment of the moving boundaries is crucial to resolve their respective influences on the flow field and thus on the overall energy transport correctly. This is achieved by a mesh‐moving method, which explicitly tracks the phase boundary and makes it possible to use a sharp interface model without singularities in the boundary conditions at the triple junction. A numerical example describing the welding of a thin‐steel wire end by a laser, where all aforementioned effects have to be taken into account, proves the effectiveness of the approach.Copyright © 2012 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献
