The recently developed perturbed-chain statistical-associating-fluid theory (PC-SAFT) is investigated for a wide range of model parameters including the parameter m representing the chain length and the thermodynamic temperature T and pressure p. This approach is based upon the first-order thermodynamic perturbation theory for chain molecules developed by Wertheim [M. S. Wertheim, J. Stat. Phys. 35, 19 (1984); ibid. 42, 459 (1986)] and Chapman et al. [G. Jackson, W. G. Chapman, and K. E. Gubbins, Mol. Phys. 65, 1 (1988); W. G. Chapman, G. Jackson, and K. E. Gubbins, ibid. 65, 1057 (1988)] and includes dispersion interactions via the second-order perturbation theory of Barker and Henderson [J. A. Barker and D. Henderson, J. Chem. Phys. 47, 4714 (1967)]. We systematically study a hierarchy of models which are based on the PC-SAFT approach using analytical model calculations and Monte Carlo simulations. For one-component systems we find that the analytical model in contrast with the simulation results exhibits two phase-separation regions in addition to the common gas-liquid coexistence region: One phase separation occurs at high density and low temperature. The second demixing takes place at low density and high temperature where usually the ideal-gas phase is expected in the phase diagram. These phenomena, which are referred to as "liquid-liquid" and "gas-gas" equilibria, give rise to multiple critical points in one-component systems, as well as to critical end points and equilibria of three fluid phases, which can usually be found in multicomponent mixtures only. Furthermore, it is shown that the liquid-liquid demixing in this model is not a consequence of a "softened" repulsive interaction as assumed in the theoretical derivation of the model. Experimental data for the melt density of polybutadiene with molecular mass Mw=45,000 gmol are correlated here using the PC-SAFT equation. It is shown that the discrepancies in modeling the polymer density at ambient temperature and high pressure can be traced back to the liquid-liquid phase separation predicted by the equation of state at low temperatures. This investigation provides a basis for understanding possible inaccuracies or even unexpected phase behavior which can occur in engineering applications of the PC-SAFT model aiming at predicting properties of macromolecular substances. 相似文献

In a recent report, we have presented the layer-by-layer (LBL) assembly of a biomimetic nanostructured composite from Na(+)-montmorillonite clay nanosheets and poly(diallylmethylammonium chloride) (Tang, Z.; Kotov, N.; Magonov, S.; Ozturk, B. Nat. Mater. 2003, 2, 413). The structure, deformation mechanism, and mechanical properties of the material are very similar to those of natural nacre and lamellar bones. This fact prompts further investigation of these composites as potential bone implants. LBL assembly affords preparation of multifunctional composites, and here we demonstrate that not only mechanical strength, but also antibacterial activity, can be introduced in these implantable materials by alternating clay layers with starch-stabilized silver nanoparticles. The resulting composite showed excellent structural stability with no detectable levels of silver lost over a 1 month period. Evaluation of the antibacterial properties showed almost complete growth inhibition of E. coli over an 18 h period. The amount of silver eluted from the LBL composite over a 1 month period was determined to be only 0.5-3.0 microg/L. This concentration of silver did not prevent the growth of the mammalian tissue cultures. The LBL composite has shown biocompatibility with the human osteoblast cell line. 相似文献

Aziridine analogues of diaminopimelic acid (DAP) have been prepared stereoselectively for the first time and evaluated as inhibitors of DAP epimerase. (2R,3S,3'S)-3-(3'-Aminopropane)aziridine-2,3'-dicarboxylate was synthesised and shown to be a reversible inhibitor of DAP epimerase with an IC(50) value of 2.88 mM. (2S,4S)- and (2S,4R)-2-(4-Amino-4-carboxybutyl)aziridine-2-carboxylic acid (ll-azi-DAP and dl-azi-DAP ) were made as pure diastereomers, and both were shown to be irreversible inhibitors of DAP epimerase. ll-Azi-DAP selectively binds to Cys-73 of the enzyme active site whereas dl-azi-DAP binds to Cys-217 via attack of sulfhydryl on the methylene of the inhibitor aziridine ring. These observations are consistent with the two base mechanism proposed for the epimerization of ll-DAP and meso-DAP by DAP epimerase. 相似文献

We present analytical results on the so-called end-evaporation kinetics in equilibrium polymeric systems following a temperature jump (T jump). A T jump prepares the system with a nonequilibrium length distribution, after which it relaxes back to its equilibrium state. Starting from a master equation, we develop a mean-field analytical theory based on a generating function approach, which allows explicit approximate expressions for the monomer and dimer concentrations to be derived in a discrete setting; the concentrations of the other chains as well as the average chain length were shown to be entirely expressible in terms of the monomer and dimer concentrations. We find that the calculated monomer and dimer concentrations as well as the average chain length are in good agreement with numerical simulation results and do not suffer from some of the defects of earlier continuum theories. Furthermore, the relaxation was shown to take place in three different stages. The first stage comprises the very fast relaxation of the monomers to almost their equilibrium concentration; the other polymer chains have hardly relaxed. During the second stage, which is highly nonlinear, a redistribution of material at practically constant monomer density takes place. Only in the final stage of the relaxation process the chain concentrations approach their true equilibrium values. In this stage there are only very small shifts in the concentrations of chains, which are governed by extremely slow "indirect" monomer-mediated processes. 相似文献

[structure: see text] A vinylene-linked porphyrin dimer, with no substituents at the beta-positions, has been synthesized by CuI/CsF promoted Stille coupling. In the crystal structure of this dimer, the C(2)H(2) bridge is twisted by 45 degrees relative to the plane of the porphyrins. The absorption, emission spectra, and electrochemistry reveal substantial porphyrin-porphyrin pi-conjugation. We introduce a "double direct templating" method for obtaining hollow microspheres with periodically nanostructured walls. Silica or polystyrene colloids are dispersed in a self-assembled hexagonal lyotropic liquid crystal containing precursors for ZnS. The semiconductor ZnS mineralizes on the surface of the colloid, expressing a pore morphology that is a copy of the structure of the liquid crystal. When cocaine is smoked, a pyrolytic product, methyl ecgonidine (anhydroecgonine methyl ester), is also consumed with the cocaine. The amount of methyl ecgonidine formed depends on the pyrolytic conditions and composition of the illicit cocaine. This procedure describes detection of cocaine and 10 metabolites--cocaethylene, nor-cocaine, nor-cocaethylene, methyl ecgonine, ethyl ecgonine, benzoylecgonine, nor-benzoylecgonine, m-hydroxybenzoylecgonine, p-hydroxybenzoylecgonine and ecgonine--in blood and urine. In addition, the detection of pyrolytic methyl ecgonidine and three metabolites--ecgonidine (anhydroecgonine), ethyl ecgonidine (anhydroecgonine ethyl ester) and nor-ecgonidine (nor-anhydroecgonine)--are included. The newly described metabolites, ethyl ecgonidine and nor-ecgonidine, were synthesized and characterized by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). All 15 compounds were extracted from 3 mL of blood or urine by solid-phase extraction and identified by a GC-MS method. The overall recoveries were 49% for methyl ecgonine, 35% for ethyl ecgonine, 29% for ecgonine and more than 83% for all other drugs. The limits of detection were between 0.5 and 4.0 ng/mL except for ecgonine, which was 16 ng/mL. Linearity for each analyte was established and in all cases correlation coefficients were 0.9985-1.0000. The procedure was applied to examine the concentration profiles of analytes of interest in post-mortem (PM) blood and urine, and in urine collected from living individuals (LV). These specimens previously were shown to be positive for the cocaine metabolite, benzoylecgonine. Ecgonidine, the major metabolite of methyl ecgonidine, was present in 77% of PM and 88% of the LV specimens, indicating smoking as the major route of cocaine administration. The new pyrolytic metabolites, ethyl ecgonidine and nor-ecgonidine, were present in smaller amounts. The urine concentrations of nor-ecgonidine were 0-163 ng/mL in LV and 0-75 ng/mL in PM specimens. Ethyl ecgonidine was found only in PM urine at concentrations 0-39 ng/mL. Ethanol-related cocaine metabolites, ethyl ecgonine or cocaethylene, were present in 69% of PM and 53% of cocaine-positive LV specimens, implying alcohol consumption with cocaine use. The four major metabolites of cocaine--benzoylecgonine, ecgonine, nor-benzoylecgonine and methyl ecgonine--constituted approximately 88 and 97% of all metabolites in PM and LV specimens, respectively. The concentrations of nor-cocaine and nor-cocaethylene were consistently the lowest of all cocaine metabolites. At benzoylecgonine concentrations below 100 ng/mL, ecgonine was present at the highest concentrations. In 20 urine specimens, benzoylecgonine and ecgonine median concentrations (range) were 54 (0-47) and 418 ng/mL (95-684), respectively. Within a second virial theory, we study bulk phase diagrams as well as the free planar isotropic-nematic interface of binary mixtures of nonadditive thin and thick hard rods. For species of the same type, the excluded volume is determined only by the dimensions of the particles, whereas for dissimilar ones it is taken to be larger or smaller than that, giving rise to a nonadditivity that can be positive or negative. We argue that such a nonadditivity can result from modeling of soft interactions as effective hard-core interactions. The nonadditivity enhances or reduces the fractionation at isotropic-nematic (IN) coexistence and may induce or suppress a demixing of the high-density nematic phase into two nematic phases of different composition (N(1) and N(2)), depending on whether the nonadditivity is positive or negative. The interfacial tension between coexisting isotropic and nematic phases shows an increase with increasing fractionation at the IN interface, and complete wetting of the IN(2) interface by the N(1) phase upon approach of the triple-point coexistence. In all explored cases bulk and interfacial properties of the nonadditive mixtures exhibit a striking and quite unexpected similarity with the properties of additive mixtures of different diameter ratio. 相似文献
