The partial phonon densities of states of iron atoms in the intermetallic compound FeSi have been measured in the temperature range 46–297 K using nuclear resonant inelastic scattering of synchrotron radiation. A significant phonon softening with increasing temperature has been established. The greatest phonon softening for iron atoms is shown to occur in the region of long-wavelength acoustic phonons, for the acoustic branches near the boundary of the Brillouin zone, and for the low-lying weakly dispersive optical branches. The results obtained are analyzed in terms of the views that relate the change in the phonon density of states of iron atoms to the temperature evolution of the electronic density of state for the compound. 相似文献

We have measured
the low-frequency Raman scattering in neutron-irradiated quartz
crystals with four different irradiation doses from 4.7×1019 n/cm2
to 1×1020 n/cm2 and for 2 different crystallographic directions.
For the used doses the range of density change of the investigated
samples was 12% (the maximum change during amorphization is 14%)
and the amorphous fraction varied from 35% to 100%.
The same measurement was done in neutron-irradiated
amorphous silica with a maximal dose 2×1020 n/cm2.
In all cases we observed the boson peak in the Raman spectra.
The position of the peak, at 67±3 cm-1,
was found to be the same for all the investigated samples
independent of the dose. The shape of the peak for doses 6.8×
1019 n/cm2 and higher was also found to be the same for 5
investigated samples (including irradiated vitreous silica). We
found that the position of the boson peak in neutron-irradiated quartz
crystals and vitreous silica corresponds to the Ioffe-Regel
crossover frequency for phonons.
The origin of the boson peak in neutron-irradiated quartz and
vitreous silica can be attributed to local soft optic modes, which are
analogous to the soft optic mode that drives the α–β

The steady (acoustic) streaming associated with a sphericaldrop displaced from the velocity antinode of a standing waveis studied. The ratio of the particle size to the acoustic wavelengthis treated as small but non-zero, and the solution is developedin the form of a two-term expansion in terms of the correspondingsmallness parameter. The drop viscosity is assumed to be muchhigher than that of the surrounding fluid, which is the casefor a drop in a gas medium. There are essentially three distinctregions where the steady streaming flow is analysed: insidethe drop (internal circulation), in the Stokes shear-wave layerat the surface on the gas side, and the gas outside the Stokeslayer (the outer streaming region). Solutions for the internalcirculation and the outer streaming are obtained in the limitof small Reynolds number. Despite the gas-to-liquid viscosity ratio being small, the outerstreaming may be dramatically affected by the fact that thesphere is liquid as opposed to solid. The parameter that measuresthe effect of liquidity is essentially the viscosity ratio dividedby the relative (to the particle size) thickness of the Stokeslayer. A numerical method has been developed for calculating the director configuration in ellipsoidal droplets of a nematic liquid crystal with strong tangential anchoring in a uniform magnetic field of an arbitrary orientation. A relation has been obtained for determining the Friedericksz threshold corresponding to the beginning of the reorientation of the central region of a droplet when the field is orthogonal to the biopolar axis. The effect of the breaking of the orthogonal condition on the threshold character of the orientation process is considered. The reorientation of the ensemble of bipolar droplets of the 5CB nematic liquid crystal dispersed in polyvinyl butyral has been studied by the magneto-optical method. Polarization optic techniques have been applied to study specific features of the anisotropic interaction between a dye‐doped eutectic mixture of nematic liquid crystals p‐methoxybenzylidene‐p‐n‐butylaniline and p‐ethoxybenzylidene‐p‐n‐butylaniline and a polar surface of a ferroelectric triglycine sulphate crystal over the temperature range including the substrate Curie point T c. It has been found that the temperature‐induced structural changes in the nematic layer in the vicinity of T c are related to the changes in the orientational part of the tensor order parameter Qik . The temperature dependence of the director angle θ¯, averaged over the nematic layer, has been obtained from the effective dichroism values of solute absorption. The dependences of the product of the electron inelastic mean free path λ and the differential cross section for inelastic electron scattering K on energy loss are determined from the experimental energy-loss spectra of the reflected electrons of Mn x Si1 ? x (0 ≤ x ≤ 1) composite structures. It is shown that the minimum values for the dependences of the product λK on the electron-energy loss can be used for the quantitative determination of element concentrations in this composite structure. 相似文献
