Di-tert-butyldiphosphatetrahedrane as a Source of 1,2-Diphosphacyclobutadiene Ligands

Reactions of di-tert-butyldiphosphatetrahedrane ( 1 ) with cycloocta-1,5-diene- or anthracene-stabilised metalate anions of iron and cobalt consistently afford complexes of the rarely encountered 1,2-diphosphacyclobutadiene ligand, which have previously been very challenging synthetic targets. The subsequent reactivity of 1,2-diphosphacyclobutadiene cobaltates toward various electrophiles has also been investigated and is compared to reactions of related 1,3-diphosphacyclobutadiene complexes. The results highlight the distinct reactivity of such isomeric species, showing that the 1,2-isomers can act as precursors for previously unknown triphospholium ligands. The electronic structures of the new complexes were investigated by several methods, including NMR, EPR and Mößbauer spectroscopies as well as quantum chemical calculations.

Quantitative Derivation of the Gross‐Pitaevskii Equation

Starting from first‐principle many‐body quantum dynamics, we show that the dynamics of Bose‐Einstein condensates can be approximated by the time‐dependent nonlinear Gross‐Pitaevskii equation, giving a bound on the rate of the convergence. Initial data are constructed on the bosonic Fock space applying an appropriate Bogoliubov transformation on a coherent state with expected number of particles N. The Bogoliubov transformation plays a crucial role; it produces the correct microscopic correlations among the particles. Our analysis shows that, on the level of the one‐particle reduced density, the form of the initial data is preserved by the many‐body evolution, up to a small error that vanishes as N^?1/2 in the limit of large N.© 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.     

Toeplitz Operators with Uniformly Continuous Symbols

Let T _f be a Toeplitz operator on the Segal–Bargmann space or the standard weighted Bergman space over a bounded symmetric domain \({\Omega \subset {\bf C}^n}\) with possibly unbounded symbol f. Combining recent results in Bauer et al. (J. Funct. Anal. 259:57–78, 2010), Bauer et al. (J. reine angew. Math. doi: 10.1515/crelle-2015-0016), Issa (Integr. Equ. Oper. Theory 70:569–582, 2011) we show that in the case of uniformly continuous symbols f with respect to the Euclidean metric on C ⁿ and the Bergman metric on \({\Omega}\), respectively, the operator T _f is bounded if and only if f is bounded. Moreover, T _f is compact if and only if f vanishes at the boundary of \({\Omega.}\) This observation substantially extends a result in Coburn (Indiana Univ. Math. J. 23:433–439, 1973).
