The installation of a nuclear magnetic resonance unit in any diagnostic facility involves certain location and environmental requirements. Based on our experience with the FONAR QED 80 system, we have delineated the major factors which must be considered when planning for such an installation. The major requirements are location and space. Suggested layouts for the suite and the control room are included. Certain environmental specifications will vary depending on the location of the facility and the type of unit installed.  相似文献

Consider an n-component reliability system having the property that at any time each of its components is either up (i.e., working) or down (i.e., being repaired). Each component acts independently and we suppose that each time the ith component goes up it remains up for an exponentially distributed time having mean μi, and each time it goes down it remains down for an exponentially distributed time having mean υi. We further suppose that whether or not the system itself is up at any time depends only on which components are up at that time. We are interested in the distribution of the time of first system failure when all components are initially up at time zero. In section 2 we show that this distribution has the NBU (i.e., new better than used) property, and in Section 3 we make use of this and other results to obtain a lower bound to the mean time until first system failure.  相似文献

This paper describes a short experiment undertaken to demonstrate how easily broad-band active control of sound can be used to tackle real industrial problems. Ten decibles of the low frequency sound entering an anechoic chamber through a lobby was blocked by using a single degree of freedom system. The behaviour of Si implanted with high doses of P and Ar (5·1014 to 1017 cm−2) in HF solutions was investigated using radioactive isotopes. We show that knowledge of the valence quark distribution of a proton at one value of q2, enables one to calculate a contribution to the difference between the distribution of anti-up quarks (up) and anti-down quarks (dp) in the sea of the proton at higher values of q2. This difference can be expressed as a linear combination of the structure functions F1, for νp → νX and e?p → e?p (for which one knows the q2 behaviour of the moments) and for νp → μ?Xandνp → μ+X (for which one knows the q2 behaviour of the odd moments). The calculable contribution involves a non-trivial continuation of the even (odd) moments of the neutral (charged) current structure functions to odd (even) moments. We calculate this contribution and although we find that its sign is negative we point out that this cannot be interpreted as a consequences of the Pauli exclusion principle. We discuss the constraints our results impose on antiquark distributions.  相似文献

We present results on the time correlation function of a system undergoing absorptive optical bistability. We first use the Zwanzig-Mori formalism to calculate time correlation functions both near marginal stability points and in the coexistence region. Near marginal stability the theory predicts large deviations from a single exponential form of the correlation function. The truncated continued fraction expansion is shown to become inapplicable close to the coexistence point. The difficulties are due to the presence of long time scales, viz. the very large mean first passage times between the two metastable steady states. When these scales are important we show that the memory kernel relaxation is no longer faster than that of a field fluctuation. An increase in the size of the system increases the disparity of the time scales and thus exacerbates the problems of the projection operator formalism as used here following reference [14].We next present an ansatz for the correlation function incorporating the four major time scales important near coexistence, the two single branch relaxation times and the two mean first passage times for transitions between the stable states. This form of the correlation function avoids the difficulties cited in connection with the use of the projection operator method.  相似文献

A computer-based method is developed to perform the numerical analysis of the measured adsorption isotherm in order to determine the quantitative distribution of potential energies displayed by a solid substrate for a physically-adsorbed gas. The characteristic adsorptive energies of the basal planes of graphite and of boron nitride for argon and nitrogen are determined as examples of the use of the method. As more such values are put on record the method becomes suitable for the qualitative analysis of substrates.  相似文献

Measurements were made of magnetic and electric field levels in and around a nuclear magnetic resonance imaging system undergoing a clinical trial. Magnetic field levels ranged from 0.04 tesla (T) in the imaging volume down to about 0.0006 T at the end of the patient table. The peak radio-frequency magnetic field level was 15 amperes per meter (A/m) in the imaging volume, while the rms value was 4.6 A/m. The specific absorption rate resulting from the radio-frequency magnetic field was calculated to be no more than 0.017 watts per kilogram (W/kg). The radio-frequency electric field was detectable only within a few centimeters of the coil assembly, and does not significantly contribute to the specific absorption rate. These exposure levels were much lower than existing guidelines for clinical NMR procedures.  相似文献
