Applying the Fermimodel ground state correlations are calculated in the quasi-particle formalism. Their dependence on the interaction potential strength, distance of energy levels and pairing is investigated. By means of the normalization constant of the ground state we criticize the quasi-boson approximation.     

An approximate method of analysis of large deflections

Zusammenfassung Ein einfaches analytisches Näherungsverfahren zur Behandlung einer Klasse nichtlinearer Randwertaufgaben wird beschrieben und bei der Berechnung der grossen Biegeverformungen von schweren, dünnen Balken und Säulen angewandt. Das Wesen des Verfahrens beruht auf der Linearisierung (oder der Herabsetzung des Nichtlinearitätsgrades) der nichtlinearen Differentialgleichung mittels der Tschebyschewschen Polynome. Die Genauigkeit des Verfahrens beruht auf der Eigenschaft der Tschebyschewschen Entwicklungen, den absoluten Maximal-Fehler der polynomischen Annäherung an eine gegebene Funktion in einem vorgeschriebenen Intervall beinahe auf ein Mindestmass zu verringern.     

On the magnetic properties of dislocations in silicon

The anisotropy of a group of equidistant lines in the EPR spectrum of plastically deformed Si can be described as line splitting in a nearly axial crystal field, the axis being parallel to the Burgers vector of the dislocations. We suppose that the spins of the unpaired electrons in the core of the 60° dislocations are coupled along limited segments giving rise to superparamagnetic resonance.     

Dielectric observation of a probably antiferroelectric high pressure phase in the ferroelectric Tris-Sarcosine Calcium Chloride (TSCC)

Dielectric susceptibility and ferroelectric hysteresis measurements on TSCC show that the 2nd-order paraelectric-ferroelectric (PE-FE) phase boundary beginning at (130.8 K, 1 bar) runs with pronounced curvature to (176.8 K, 5.03 kbar), where a new phase of low dielectric susceptibility appears. This phase is hypothesized to be antiferroelectric (AFE) with 3 possible structures: orthorhombic (P2₁2₁2₁, piezoelectric) or monoclinic ($\text{P2}{}_1\text{a}$ or $\text{P2}{}_1\text{n}$, centrosymmetric). The FE-AFE phase boundary was determined down to (81.0 K, 2.60 kbar) and the PE-AFE boundary up to (225.5 K, 6.82 kbar). Both the FE-AFE and PE-AFE transitions are of 1st order over the range studied.     

Photoemission study of Pd Zr and Cu Zr alloys

The XPS valence bands and core levels of the alloys Pd_1?xZr_x (0<x<1) and Cu_1?xZr_x (0<x<1) have been measured. The alloys prepared by coevaporation are crystalline — but their valence band spectra are close to those of the metallic glasses of the same compositions. The large valence band and core level shifts observed for Pd can be explained by a simple theory, not necessitating the postulation of a new type of bonding in these systems.
