Fraïssé’s Construction from a Topos-Theoretic Perspective

We present a topos-theoretic interpretation of (a categorical generalization of) Fraïssé’s construction in Model Theory, with applications to homogeneous models and countably categorical theories.     

A General Method for Building Reflections

We establish a general method for generating reflections between categories. We then apply our technique to generate adjunctions starting from geometric morphisms between Grothendieck toposes; as particular cases, we recover various well-known Stone-type adjunctions and establish several new ones.     

Natural dualities between abelian categories

Preconditioned Uzawa Algorithm for Elastic Contact Problems

After finite element discretization of the elastic contact problems with friction, we obtain a big sparse non–symmetric and nonlinear systems of equations, and in many cases ill–conditioned. Solving these systems by direct methods or classical iterative methods are non efficient and with bad convergence properties. One way to overcome these difficulties is to use the preconditioned Uzawa–type algorithms. On this paper we focus on the transformation of the generalized Signorini elastic contact problems into a saddle point problem of some augmented Lagrangian functional and give a preconditioning technique for Uzawa algorithm. Temperature dependence of the electrical resistivity of the nickel-platinum alloy system

The temperature dependence of the electrical resistivity of Ni_1?xPt_x (x = 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 at.%) between 77 and 700 K has been investigated. The experimental results are interpreted according to the theoretical model developed by Mott. It is shown that for this system Matthiessen's rule is not obeyed.     

Coherent frequency conversion in a superconducting artificial atom with two internal degrees of freedom

By adding a large inductance in a dc-SQUID phase qubit loop, one decouples the junctions' dynamics and creates a superconducting artificial atom with two internal degrees of freedom. In addition to the usual symmetric plasma mode (s mode) which gives rise to the phase qubit, an antisymmetric mode (a mode) appears. These two modes can be described by two anharmonic oscillators with eigenstates |ns> and |na> for the s and a mode, respectively. We show that a strong nonlinear coupling between the modes leads to a large energy splitting between states |0s,1a> and |2s,0a>. Finally, coherent frequency conversion is observed via free oscillations between the states |0s,1a> and |2s,0a>.
