We studied the properties of electromagnetic waves that were emitted from a source placed inside a left-handed medium based on a two-dimensional labyrinth. While the arguments of geometrical optics suggest that the field emitted from the source would be focused outside the left-handed medium no matter where the source was placed, our results proved the contrary. We found that the field emitted from the source was focused outside the left-handed medium when the source was placed inside the medium at a certain distance away from the interface. Moreover, our results showed that the field emitted from the source was focused on the subwavelength dimensions outside the left-handed medium.  相似文献

We examined experimentally the effects of incom-ing surface wind on the turbine wake and the wake interfer-ence among upstream and downstream wind turbines sited in atmospheric boundary layer (ABL) winds. The experi-ment was conducted in a large-scale ABL wind tunnel with scaled wind turbine models mounted in different incom-ing surface winds simulating the ABL winds over typical offshore/onshore wind farms. Power outputs and dynamic loadings acting on the turbine models and the wake flow char-acteristics behind the turbine models were quantified. The results revealed that the incoming surface winds significantly affect the turbine wake characteristics and wake interference between the upstream and downstream turbines. The velocity deficits in the turbine wakes recover faster in the incoming surface winds with relatively high turbulence levels. Varia-tions of the power outputs and dynamic wind loadings acting on the downstream turbines sited in the wakes of upstream turbines are correlated well with the turbine wakes charac-teristics. At the same downstream locations, the downstream turbines have higher power outputs and experience greater static and fatigue loadings in the inflow with relatively high turbulence level, suggesting a smaller effect of wake inter-ference for the turbines sited in onshore wind farms.  相似文献

In this article, we investigate how the photonic band gaps and the variety of band dispersions of photonic crystals can be utilized for various applications and how they further give rise to completely novel optical phenomena. The enhancement of spontaneous emission through coupled cavity waveguides in a one-dimensional silicon nitride photonic microcrystal is investigated. We then present the highly directive radiation from sources embedded in two-dimensional photonic crystals. The manifestation of novel and intriguing optical properties of photonic crystals are exemplified experimentally by the negative refraction and the focusing of electromagnetic waves through a photonic crystal slab with subwavelength resolution.  相似文献

The two-dimensional (2D) electron energy relaxation in Al0.25Ga0.75N/AlN/GaN heterostructures was investigated experimentally by using two experimental techniques; Shubnikov-de Haas (SdH) effect and classical Hall Effect. The electron temperature (Te) of hot electrons was obtained from the lattice temperature (TL) and the applied electric field dependencies of the amplitude of SdH oscillations and Hall mobility. The experimental results for the electron temperature dependence of power loss are also compared with the current theoretical models for power loss in 2D semiconductors. The power loss that was determined from the SdH measurements indicates that the energy relaxation of electrons is due to acoustic phonon emission via unscreened piezoelectric interaction. In addition, the power loss from the electrons obtained from Hall mobility for electron temperatures in the range Te > 100 K is associated with optical phonon emission. The temperature dependent energy relaxation time in Al0.25Ga0.75N/AlN/GaN heterostructures that was determined from the power loss data indicates that hot electrons relax spontaneously with MHz to THz emission with increasing temperatures.  相似文献

A circular polarizer, which is composed of periodic and two-dimensional dielectric high-contrast gratings, is designed theoretically such that a unity conversion efficiency is achieved at λ(0)=1.55 μm. The operation is obtained by the achievement of the simultaneous unity transmission of transverse magnetic and transverse electric waves with a phase difference of π/2, meaning that an optimized geometrical anisotropy is accomplished. By the utilization of the rigorous coupled-wave analysis and finite-difference time-domain methods, it is shown that a percent bandwidth of ~50% can be achieved when the operation bandwidth is defined as the wavelengths for which the conversion efficiency exceeds 0.9.  相似文献

Textile industry production processes generate one of the most highly polluted wastewaters in the world. Unfortunately, the field is also challenged by the availability of relatively cheap and highly effective technologies for wastewater purification. The application of natural zeolite as a depth filter offers an alternative and potential approach for textile wastewater treatment. The performance of a depth filter treatment system can be deeply affected by the column depth and the characteristics of the wastewater to be treated. Regrettably, the information on the potential of these filter materials for the purification of textile wastewater is still scarce. Therefore, this study investigated the potential applicability of natural zeolite in terms of column depth for the treatment of textile wastewater. From the analysis results, it was observed that the filtration efficiencies were relatively low (6.1 to 13.7%) for some parameters such as total dissolved solids, electrical conductivity, chemical oxygen demand, and sodium chloride when the wastewater samples were subjected to the 0.5 m column depth. Relatively high efficiency of 82 and 93.8% was observed from color and total suspended solids, respectively, when the wastewater samples were subjected to the 0.5 m column depth. Generally, the 0.75 m column depth achieved removal efficiencies ranging from 52.3% to 97.5%, whereas the 1 m column depth achieved removal efficiencies ranging from 86.9% to 99.4%. The highest removal efficiency was achieved with a combination of total suspended solids and 1 m column depth (99.4%). In summary, the treatment approach was observed to be highly effective for the removal of total suspended solids, with a 93.8% removal efficiency when the wastewater was subjected to the 0.5 m column depth, 97.5% for 0.75 m column depth, and 99.4% for 1 m column depth. Moreover, up to 218.233 mg of color per g of the filter material was captured. The results derived in this study provide useful information towards the potential applicability of natural zeolite in the textile wastewater treatment field.  相似文献

Voltammetric and liquid chromatographic (LC) methods have been developed for the simultaneous determination of amlodipine besylate (AML) and rosuvastatin calcium (ROS) for the first time. Detailed electrochemical behavior and simultaneous voltammetric determination of AML and ROS were investigated in detail using glassy carbon electrode (GCE). High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and ultra-performance liquid chromatography (UPLC) were also developed for the comparison. Voltammetric method exhibited linear dynamic responses for the simultaneous assay of AML and ROS in the concentration range between 0.006 and 2.85 μg/mL and between 0.01 and 5.00 μg/mL, with detection limits of 0.001 and 0.003 μg/mL, respectively. On the other hand, LC methods presented a wider linearity range than that of the SWV method between 0.5 and 100 μg/mL with the detection limits of 0.011 and 0.027 μg/mL for AML and 0.034 and 0.042 μg/mL for ROS by UPLC and HPLC techniques, respectively.  相似文献

Resistivity and Hall effect measurements were carried out as a function of magnetic field (0‐1.5 T) and temperature (30‐300 K) for Al0.88In0.12N/AlN/GaN/AlN heterostructures grown by Metal Organic Chemical Vapor Deposition (MOCVD). Magnetic field dependent Hall data were analyzed by using the quantitative mobility spectrum analysis (QMSA). A two‐dimensional electron gas (2DEG) channel located at the Al0.88In0.12N/GaN interface with an AlN interlayer and a two‐dimensional hole gas (2DHG) channel located at the GaN/AlN interface were determined for Al0.88In0.12N/AlN/GaN/AlN heterostructures. The interface parameters, such as quantum well width, the deformation potential constant and correlation length as well as the dominant scattering mechanisms for the Al0.88In0.12N/GaN interface with an AlN interlayer were determined from scattering analyses based on the exact 2DEG carrier density and mobility obtained with QMSA. We investigate the effects of ruthenium (Ru) termination and Ru doping on the electronic properties of armchair graphene nanoribbons (AGNRs) using first-principles methods. The electronic band structures, geometries, density of states, binding energies, band gap information, and formation energies of related structures are calculated. It is well founded that the electronic properties of the investigated AGNRs are highly influenced by Ru termination and Ru doping. With Ru termination, metallic band structures with quasi-zero-dimensional, one-dimensional and quasi-one-dimensional density of states (DOS) behavior are obtained in addition to dominant one-dimensional behavior. In contrast to Ru termination, Ru doping introduces small but measurable (12.4 to 89.6?meV) direct or indirect band gaps. These results may present an additional way to produce tunable band gaps in AGNRs.  相似文献
