A study of effect of agitation intensification on the size and external shape of silver bromide crystals produced by controlled Ostwald growth in the presence of dimethyl sulfoxide

Results obtained in a study of the effect of agitation intensification on the granulometric properties of silver bromide crystals contained in photographic emulsions and produced by controlled Ostwald growth are presented.     

Coarsely embeddable metric spaces without Property A

We study Guoliang Yu's Property A and construct metric spaces which do not satisfy Property A but embed coarsely into the Hilbert space.     

Asymptotic formulas for certain arithmetic functions

This is an extended summary of a talk given by the last named author at the Czecho-Slovake Number Theory Conference 2005, held at Malenovice in September 2005. It surveys some recent results concerning asymptotics for a class of arithmetic functions, including, e.g., the second moments of the number-of-divisors function d(n) and of the function r(n) which counts the number of ways to write a positive integer as a sum of two squares. For the proofs, reference is made to original articles by the authors published elsewhere. The last named author gratefully acknowledges support from the Austrian Science Fund (FWF) under project Nr. XPS analysis of sonochemically prepared SbSI ethanogel

This paper, for the first time, presents the results of the X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) of the valence band and core levels in sonochemically prepared SbSI ethanogel consisting of nanowires. The XPS spectra were measured with monochromatized Al K_α radiation in the energy range of 0-1400 eV at room temperature. It was found that the sonochemically prepared SbSI ethanogel is a p-type semiconductor. The XPS determined composition of this material suggests the existence of antimony subiodide at surfaces of SbSI nanowires. The chemical shifts in SbSI ethanogel for the Sb, I and S states are reported. Experimentally obtained binding energies are compared with the results reported for single crystals of SbSI.     

Influence of d-Electron Divalent Metal Ions in Complex Formation with L-Tartaric and L-Malic Acids

Binary complexes of α-hydroxy acids (L-Tartaric acid and L-Malic acid) with d-electron metal ions (copper, cobalt, nickel) were investigated. Potentiometric measurements have been performed in aqueous solution with computer analysis of the data for determination of the stability constants of complexes formed in the studied systems. The coordination mode of the complexes was defined using spectroscopic methods: electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR), ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis), circular dichroism (CD), and infrared (IR). Results of the equilibrium studies have provided evidence for the formation of dimers with copper(II) ions and monomers with cobalt(II) and nickel(II) ions.
