A rotating phantom for the study of flow effects in MR imaging   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
A common type of phantom used for the study of flow effects in MR imaging is the tube phantom, where a liquid passes through a set of tubes placed in the main magnetic field of an MR scanner. Among the disadvantages with this type of phantom are that a distribution of velocities is present in each tube, and that quantifications of flow effects using tube phantoms may be very time-consuming. In this work, we describe the design and the properties of a rotating wheel flow phantom used for quantification of the effects of flow through the imaging plane as well as in the imaging plane. The proposed phantom is constructed as a rotating gel-filled wheel, surrounded by static volumes filled with the same gel, and the evaluation of the information from rotating and static parts is made with a specially designed computer program. The phantom can be used as a plug flow phantom covering simultaneously an interchangeable velocity interval, which at present has the range −52 mm/s, +52 mm/s. It is shown that the phantom gives adequate information on the dependence of pixel content on first-order motion in MR modulus and phase images. Among the fields of application are rapid calibration of MR imaging units for flow determination using phase information, as well as testing of pulse sequence characteristics and verification of theoretical predictions concerning the flow dependence in MR images.  相似文献

Peripheral nerve diffusion tensor imaging   总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4  
We examined if MR diffusion tensor imaging with fiber tracking could be performed on the sciatic nerve. In 3 healthy volunteers the proximal thigh was examined on a 1.5-Tesla MR-scanner with a 2-channel phased-array coil. Though inherently susceptible to motion, field inhomogeneities, and fast T(2)-relaxation of the diffusion imaging technique, the sciatic nerve could be detected and correlated to T(2)-weighted images in all 3 subjects. Further investigations need to be done to improve the signal-to-noise ratio and to see if smaller peripheral nerves than the sciatic nerve can be detected.  相似文献

This paper describes and tests the LL-EPI method for obtaining quantitative T1 estimates in a few seconds thereby allowing dynamic T1 studies. It is shown that the method works even when there is an inflow into the imaged volume, e.g., in a vessel. No calibration is needed. The method has been tested in a phantom study with several different scan parameter set-ups, with and without inflow. The method shows robustness and individual scan parameters and inflow rates do not influence the ability to calculate the Gd-DTPA concentration. Linearity prevail between the measured 1/T1 and the Gd-DTPA concentration in the range 150 < T1 < 2500 ms. In a dynamic Gd-DTPA phantom study, it was shown that the dynamic LL-EPI T1 mapping technique was three times more sensitive than the signal from a T*2-weighted EPI sequence. In an in vivo study, dynamic T1 mapping of the Gd-DTPA uptake in a meningioma was performed. Inspection of the uptake curves indicates that the method is feasible in clinical perfusion studies.  相似文献

Binuclear ruthenium complexes that bind DNA by threading intercalation have recently been found to exhibit an exceptional kinetic selectivity for long polymeric adenine-thymine (AT) DNA. A series of oligonucleotide hairpin duplexes containing a central tract of 6-44 alternating AT base pairs have here been used to investigate the nature of the recognition mechanism. We find that, above a threshold AT tract length corresponding to one helix turn of B-DNA, a dramatic increase in threading intercalation rate occurs. In contrast, such length dependence is not observed for rates of unthreading. Intercalation by any mechanism that depends on the open end of the hairpin was found not to be important in the series of oligonucleotides used, as verified by including in the study a hairpin duplex cyclized by a copper-catalyzed "click" reaction. Our observations are interpreted in terms of a conformational pre-equilibrium, determined by the length of the AT tract. We finally find that mismatches or loops in the oligonucleotide facilitate the threading process, of interest for the development of mismatch-recognizing probes.  相似文献

Secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) are utilized to study precipitation and the solubility of B in 4H-SiC epitaxial layers super saturated with B. Heat treatments are performed in Ar atmosphere in an rf-heated furnace at temperatures between 1700 and 2000 °C. SIMS ion images, and TEM micrographs reveal the formation of two types of precipitates where the larger, more thermally stable one is suggested to be B4C. The boron solubility is determined from SIMS depth profiles and is shown to follow the Arrhenius expression: 7.1 × 1022 exp(−1.4 eV/kBT) cm−3 over the studied temperature range.  相似文献

Polymer composites with metal oxide nanoparticles are emerging materials for use as insulation in electrical applications. However, the extensive interfacial surfaces and the presence of polar groups on the particle surfaces make these composites susceptible to water sorption. Water sorption kinetics were studied at 23 °C and different relative humidities (18–90%) for composites based on poly(ethylene-co-butyl acrylate) and aluminium oxide (?12 wt.%); the latter being in three different forms: uncoated and coated with either octyltriethoxysilane or aminopropyltriethoxysilane. The equilibrium water uptake increased linearly with increasing overall concentration of polar groups on the nanoparticle surfaces. Composites with well-dispersed nanoparticles showed Fickian diffusion (constant diffusivity and invariant boundary conditions) with a diffusivity that decreased with increasing filler content; the maximum factorial decrease in diffusivity was 300 with reference to that of the pristine polymer. This effect was most pronounced for composites with accessible polar groups on the particle surfaces, suggesting that water saturation of the composites is retarded by dual water sorption. Composites that contained a sizeable fraction of large nanoparticle agglomerates showed a two-stage sorption process: a rapid process associated with the saturation of the matrix phase and a slow diffusion process due to water sorption by the large nanoparticle agglomerates.  相似文献

The electronic and chemical structure of the metal-to-semiconductor interface was studied by photoemission spectroscopy for evaporated Cr, Ti, Al and Cu overlayers on sputter-cleaned as-deposited and thermally treated thin films of amorphous hydrogenated boron carbide (a-B(x)C:H(y)) grown by plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition. The films were found to contain ~10% oxygen in the bulk and to have approximate bulk stoichiometries of a-B(3)CO(0.5):H(y). Measured work functions of 4.7/4.5?eV and valence band maxima to Fermi level energy gaps of 0.80/0.66?eV for the films (as-deposited/thermally treated) led to predicted Schottky barrier heights of 1.0/0.7?eV for Cr, 1.2/0.9?eV for Ti, 1.2/0.9?eV for Al, and 0.9/0.6?eV for Cu. The Cr interface was found to contain a thick partial metal oxide layer, dominated by the wide-bandgap semiconductor Cr(2)O(3), expected to lead to an increased Schottky barrier at the junction and the formation of a space-charge region in the a-B(3)CO(0.5):H (y) layer. Analysis of the Ti interface revealed a thick layer of metal oxide, comprising metallic TiO and Ti (2)O (3), expected to decrease the barrier height. A thinner, insulating Al(2)O(3) layer was observed at the Al-to-a-B(3)CO(0.5):H(y) interface, expected to lead to tunnel junction behavior. Finally, no metal oxides or other new chemical species were evident at the Cu-to-a-B(3)CO(0.5):H(y) interface in either the core level or valence band photoemission spectra, wherein characteristic metallic Cu features were observed at very thin overlayer coverages. These results highlight the importance of thin-film bulk oxygen content on the metal-to-semiconductor junction character as well as the use of Cu as a potential Ohmic contact material for amorphous hydrogenated boron carbide semiconductor devices such as high-efficiency direct-conversion solid-state neutron detectors.  相似文献

Single crystals of the title coordination polymer, [CuCl(C5H3N2O2)(H2O)], have been prepared by hydro­thermal synthesis. The compound is composed of infinite one-dimensional chains of pseudo-square-pyramidal CuII ions connected via pyrazine-2-carboxyl­ate ligands. A network of O—H⋯O hydrogen bonding between adjacent chains is responsible for a bilayer structure different from the previously reported polymorph.  相似文献

Background  

Estrogen suppresses microglial activation and extravasation of circulating monocytes in young animals, supporting an anti-inflammatory role for this hormone. However, the mechanisms underlying estrogen's anti-inflammatory effects, especially in vivo, are not well understood. The present study tests the hypothesis that anti-inflammatory effects of estrogen are mediated by the pan-neurotrophin receptor p75NTR. Previously, we reported that estrogen attenuated local increases of interleukin(IL)-1β in the NMDA-lesioned olfactory bulb, while further increasing NGF expression.  相似文献
