As machine learning algorithms grow in popularity and diversify to many industries, ethical and legal concerns regarding their fairness have become increasingly relevant. We explore the problem of algorithmic fairness, taking an information–theoretic view. The maximal correlation framework is introduced for expressing fairness constraints and is shown to be capable of being used to derive regularizers that enforce independence and separation-based fairness criteria, which admit optimization algorithms for both discrete and continuous variables that are more computationally efficient than existing algorithms. We show that these algorithms provide smooth performance–fairness tradeoff curves and perform competitively with state-of-the-art methods on both discrete datasets (COMPAS, Adult) and continuous datasets (Communities and Crimes).  相似文献

Recent positron lifetime studies made on the Au/GaAs interface with an applied electric field returning a significant fraction of bulk implanted positrons to the interface have revealed the presence of microvoids( 1 nm diameter) at the interface. In this work an attempt has been made to study these microvoids by observing the Doppler broadening on the annihilation radiation coming from them. This is done both by observing theS-parameter as a function of applied bias and by applying the generalized least-squares method to the deconvolution of the annihilation radiation lineshape. The general conclusion is that the Doppler-broadened data are consistent with the majority of positrons trapping into microvoids, probably associated with grain boundaries. The data suggest that these open volume defects are more associated with the Au film rather than the Au-Ga alloyed interfacial region.Paper presented at the 132nd WE-Heraeus-Seminar on Positron Studies of Semiconductor Defects, Halle, Germany, 29 August to 2 September 1994  相似文献

The structural properties of Al isotopes are analysed using the relativistic mean field formalism with NL3 parameter set. The Glauber model technique is implemented to study the reaction dynamics for 23?28Al taking 12C as the target. The enhanced reaction cross section, high value of radius, narrow longitudinal momentum distribution and small proton separation energy of 23Al favours a proton halo structure for this nucleus.  相似文献

We present here an efficient method for the hydroboration of aldimines (-C=N-) with pinacolborane (HBpin) using an alkali metal catalyst, potassium benzyl. The reaction was accomplished with unprecedented catalytic efficiency under mild and solvent-free conditions to afford the high yield of the corresponding N-boryl amines up to 97%. Various functionalities on aldimines were incorporated for hydroboration. The corresponding boryl amines were subjected to further hydrolysis to yield the corresponding secondary amines with good yields up to 89%. This protocol for the reaction demonstrates an atom-economic and green method with diverse imines that bears excellent functional group tolerance. Chemoselective reduction of imines was also attained, with good yields of 74–89%. We also propose the most plausible mechanism involving the formation of metal hydride as the active pre-catalyst.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

We study the effect of the external electric field Fext on the low-temperature electron mobility μ in an asymmetrically doped AlxGa1-xAs based V-shaped double quantum well (VDQW) structure. We show that nonlinearity of µ occurs under double subband occupancy on account of intersubband effects. The field Fext alters the VDQW potential leading to transfer of subband wave functions between the wells, which affects the scattering potentials and hence μ. In the VDQW structure, due to the alloy channel layer, the alloy disorder (Al-) scattering happens to be significant along with the ionised impurity (Imp-) scattering. The non-linear behaviour of μ is because of μImp, while the overall magnitude of μ is mostly due to μAl. The increase of difference in the doping concentrations of the outer barriers increases the nonlinearity of μ. The oscillatory character of μ is amended by varying the width of the well and barrier and also the height of the VDQW. Our results can be used to study VDQW based nanoscale field effect transistor structures.  相似文献

A new finite‐volume flow solver based on the hybrid Cartesian immersed boundary (IB) framework is developed for the solution of high‐speed inviscid compressible flows. The IB method adopts a sharp‐interface approach, wherein the boundary conditions are enforced on the body geometry itself. A key component of the present solver is a novel reconstruction approach, in conjunction with inverse distance weighting, to compute the solutions in the vicinity of the solid‐fluid interface. We show that proposed reconstruction leads to second‐order spatial accuracy while also ensuring that the discrete conservation errors diminish linearly with grid refinement. Investigations of supersonic and hypersonic inviscid flows over different geometries are carried out for an extensive validation of the proposed flow solver. Studies on cylinder lift‐off and shape optimisation in supersonic flows further demonstrate the efficacy of the flow solver for computations with moving and shape‐changing geometries. These studies conclusively highlight the capability of the proposed IB methodology as a promising alternative for robust and accurate computations of compressible fluid flows on nonconformal Cartesian meshes.  相似文献

We address a model study which includes the co-existence of the charge density wave (CDW) and ferromagnetic interactions in order to explain the colossal magnetoresistance (CMR) in manganites. The Hamiltonian consists of the ferromagnetic Hund's rule exchange interaction between eg and t2g spins, Heisenberg core spin interactions and the CDW interaction present in the eg band electrons. The core electron magnetization, induced eg electron magnetization and the CDW gap are calculated using Zubarev's Green's function technique and determined self-consistently. The effect of core electron magnetization and the CDW interaction on the induced magnetization as well as on the occupation number in the different spin states of the eg band electrons are investigated by varying the model parameters of the system like the CDW coupling, the exchange coupling, the Heisenberg coupling and the external field. It is observed that the induced magnetization exhibits re-entrant behaviour and exists within a narrow temperature range just below the Curie temperature. This unusual behaviour of the eg band electrons will throw some new insights on the physical properties of the manganite systems.  相似文献

In this paper, the minimum degree of power graphs of certain cyclic groups, abelian p-groups, dihedral groups and dicyclic groups are obtained. It is ascertained that the edge-connectivity and minimum degree of power graphs are equal, and consequently, the minimum disconnecting sets of power graphs of the aforementioned groups are determined. In order to investigate the equality of connectivity and minimum degree of power graphs, certain necessary conditions for finite groups and a necessary and su?cient condition for finite cyclic groups are obtained. Moreover, the equality is discussed for the power graphs of abelian p-groups, dihedral groups and dicyclic groups.  相似文献

In this work, conductive atomic force microscopy is used to study the inhomogeneous surface electrical conductivity of Al‐doped ZnO thin films at a nanoscale dimension. To this end, Al‐doped ZnO films were deposited onto the soda lime glass substrates at substrate temperature (Ts) varying from 303 to 673 K in radio frequency magnetron sputtering. The obtained local surface electrical conductivity values are found to be influenced by their bulk electrical resistivity, surface topography and tip geometry. Further, the average (local) surface conductivity from the film surface is found to increase with increasing Ts from 303 to 623 K, beyond which they decrease until 673 K.
