Weyl's theory for a set of N-coupled singular second-order differential equations is analyzed in relation to S-matrix theory and a dilated version is presented. Applications of this theory to two single channel scattering model problems and a two-channel model problem are given. Some implications of the present theory are discussed.  相似文献

We investigated the applicability of FTIR-spectroscopy as a high throughput screening method for detection of biochemical changes in intact liver cells in bulk upon fatty acid exposure. HepG2 cells adapted to serum free (HepG2-SF) growth were exposed to four different fatty acids, three octadecenoic acids, differing in cis/trans-configuration or double bond position (oleic acid, elaidic acid and vaccenic acid) as well as palmitic acid in three days. High throughput FTIR spectroscopic measurements on dried films of intact cells showed spectra with high signal-to-noise ratio and great reproducibility. When applying principal component analysis (PCA) a clear discrimination between fatty acid exposures was observed. Higher levels of triacylglycerides were accumulated in cells exposed to elaidic acid than when exposed to the other fatty acids; the least accumulation appeared to be in cells exposed to palmitic acid. An increased absorption at ~966 cm(-1) corresponding to trans-double bond was detected upon elaidic acid exposure but not upon vaccenic acid exposure. Instead, upon vaccenic acid exposure two new absorption bands were observed at 981 and 946 cm(-1) due to the presence of double bond conjugation. Raman spectroscopy on single cells, with and without treatment by vaccenic acid, confirmed the presence of conjugation. By fatty acid composition analysis, the conjugation was further specified to be conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) isomers. Thus, instead of being preserved as a monounsaturated fatty acid, vaccenic acid was converted into CLA in HepG2 cells. The results demonstrate the applicability of high-throughput FTIR spectroscopy as an explorative method in in vitro systems from which biologically relevant hypotheses can be generated and further investigated.  相似文献

We present a novel solar cell structure, the “buried emitter solar cell”. This concept is designed for decoupling the metallisation geometry from the geometry of the carrier collecting p–n junction in back‐contacted (and in particular back‐junction) solar cells without requiring electrical insulation by dielectric layers. The most prominent features of this device structure are a carrier collecting emitter that covers close to 100% of the total cell area and an effective electrical insulation between emitter and base metallisation via a p+–n+ junction. The experimental results presented in this paper report a 19.5% efficient “buried emitter solar cell”, where 50% of the solar cell's rear side exhibit a p+–n+ junction. This preparation technique implies covering a boron‐doped p‐type emitter with an n‐type surface layer that can be efficiently surface‐passivated by thermal oxidation. Background  

Somatosensation of the mammalian head is mainly mediated by the trigeminal nerve that provides innervation of diverse tissues like the face skin, the conjunctiva of the eyes, blood vessels and the mucouse membranes of the oral and nasal cavities. Trigeminal perception encompasses thermosensation, touch, and pain. Trigeminal chemosensation from the nasal epithelia mainly evokes stinging, burning, or pungent sensations. In vitro characterization of trigeminal primary sensory neurons derives largely from analysis of complete neuronal populations prepared from sensory ganglia. Thus, functional properties of primary trigeminal afferents depending on the area of innervation remain largely unclear.  相似文献

E Unus pluribum, or "Of One, Many", may be at the root of decoding the RNA sequence-structure-function relationship. RNAs embody the large majority of genes in higher eukaryotes and fold in a sequence-directed fashion into three-dimensional structures that perform functions conserved across all cellular life forms, ranging from regulating to executing gene expression. While it is the most important determinant of the RNA structure, the nucleotide sequence is generally not sufficient to specify a unique set of secondary and tertiary interactions due to the highly frustrated nature of RNA folding. This frustration results in folding heterogeneity, a common phenomenon wherein a chemically homogeneous population of RNA molecules folds into multiple stable structures. Often, these alternative conformations constitute misfolds, lacking the biological activity of the natively folded RNA. Intriguingly, a number of RNAs have recently been described as capable of adopting multiple distinct conformations that all perform, or contribute to, the same function. Characteristically, these conformations interconvert slowly on the experimental timescale, suggesting that they should be regarded as distinct native states. We discuss how rugged folding free energy landscapes give rise to multiple native states in the Tetrahymena Group I intron ribozyme, hairpin ribozyme, sarcin-ricin loop, ribosome, and an in vitro selected aptamer. We further describe the varying degrees to which folding heterogeneity impacts function in these RNAs, and compare and contrast this impact with that of heterogeneities found in protein folding. Embracing that one sequence can give rise to multiple native folds, we hypothesize that this phenomenon imparts adaptive advantages on any functionally evolving RNA quasispecies.  相似文献
