A new method to construct upper and lower bounds for the failure probability of a structure exposed to random excitations is presented. The method is based on an extension of the classical inclusion-exclusion series of Rice where the main idea is to take into consideration only realizations which are in the safe area at a number of previous instants of time. The excitation function for the radiative capture232Th(p, γ)233Pa has been determined in the proton energy range 7 to 20 MeV by an activation method. The results are compared with a compound nucleus model prediction and earlier experimental data for another deformed nuclide176Yb. As in previous cases an enhancement over the CN-model prediction is observed and the excitation of the giant dipole resonance via the direct-semidirect reaction process is a likely explanation. Supplementary measurements of the232Th (p, f) excitation function in the proton energy range 11–20 MeV have been performed. 相似文献

We discuss the efficiency of the conjugate gradient (CG) method for solving a sequence of linear systems; Aun+1 = un, where A is assumed to be sparse, symmetric, and positive definite. We show that under certain conditions the Krylov subspace, which is generated when solving the first linear system Au1 = u0, contains the solutions {un} for subsequent time steps. The solutions of these equations can therefore be computed by a straightforward projection of the right‐hand side onto the already computed Krylov subspace. Our theoretical considerations are illustrated by numerical experiments that compare this method with the order‐optimal scheme obtained by applying the multigrid method as a preconditioner for the CG‐method at each time step. An environmentally stable mode-locked fiber laser based on nonlinear polarization rotation is experimentally demonstrated. The laser is based on a novel laser configuration that has negligible low-power steady-state reflectivity from one side and, consequently, no CW gain. The laser is self starting and the configuration is implementable as an all-fiber laser with standard polarization-maintaining fiber-pigtailed components. A pulse duration of 5.6 ps is obtained at a repetition rate of 5.96 MHz and at an average power of 8 mW. As an application of the proposed laser configuration, 213 mW of supercontinuum (600-1750 nm) was demonstrated from a fiber laser system with no sections of free-space optics. 相似文献

We prove that the definitions of these spaces in terms of smooth, non-tangential, auxiliary, grand, and Poisson maximal operators coincide. We obtain lower bounds on blow-up of solutions for the 3D magneto-micropolar equations. More precisely, we establish some estimates for the solution \((\mathbf{u},\mathbf{w},\mathbf{b}) (t)\) in its maximal interval \([0,T^{*})\) provided that \(T^{*}<\infty\), which show for \(\delta\in(0,1)\) that \(\|(\mathbf{u},\mathbf{w},\mathbf{b})(t)\|_{\dot{H}^{s}}\) is at least of the order \((T^{*}-t)^{-(\delta s)/(1+2\delta)}\) for \(s\geq1/2+\delta\). In particular, by choosing a suitable \(\delta\), one concludes that \(\|(\mathbf{u},\mathbf{w},\mathbf{b})(t)\|_{\dot{H}^{s}}\) is at least of the order \((T^{*}-t)^{-s/4}\), and \((T^{*}-t)^{1/4-s/2}\) for \(s\geq1\), and \(1/2< s<3/2\), respectively. The paper considers the stochastic response of geometrical non-linear shallow cables. Large rain-wind induced cable oscillations with non-linear interactions have been observed in many large cable stayed bridges during the last decades. The response of the cable is investigated for a reduced two-degrees-of-freedom system with one modal coordinate for the in-plane displacement and one for the out-of-plane displacement. At first harmonic varying chord elongation at excitation frequencies close to the corresponding eigenfrequencies of the cable is considered in order to identify stable modes of vibration. Depending on the initial conditions the system may enter one of two states of vibration in the static equilibrium plane with the out-of-plane displacement equal to zero, or a whirling state with the out-of-plane displacement different from zero. Possible solutions are found both analytically and numerically. Next, the chord elongation is modelled as a narrow-banded Gaussian stochastic process, and it is shown that all the indicated harmonic solutions now become instable with probability one. Instead, the cable jumps randomly back and forth between the two in-plane and the whirling mode of vibration. A theory for determining the probability of occupying either of these modes at a certain time is derived based on a homogeneous, continuous time three states Markov chain model. It is shown that the transitional probability rates can be determined by first-passage crossing rates of the envelope process of the chord wise component of the support point motion relative to a safe domain determined from the harmonic analysis of the problem. 相似文献
