Two- and three-dimensional analysis of bose-einstein correlations inπ +/K+p interactions at 250 GeV/c

The NA22 data onπ ^? π ^? correlations are analyzed in terms of a number of two- and three-dimensional parametrizations (Gaussian space-time, Goldhaber, Bowler string-like, Bertsch hydrodynamical, Kopylov-Podgoretskii, etc.). Contrary to the results obtained for e⁺e^? andµp collisions, the Goldhaber parametrization, as well as string-like models, fail in describing the hadron-hadron data. Better fits are obtained in the framework of surface-emitting fireball-like models, both when including and excluding hydrodynamical expansion of nuclear matter. Our results indicate that pion radiation occurs at earlier stages of matter evolution than in nuclear collisions.     

Spectral shift function and trace formula

The complete proofs of Krein’s theorem on the spectral shift function and the trace formula are given for a pair of self-adjoint operators such that either (i) their difference is trace-class or (ii) the difference of their resolvents is trace-class. The proofs, essentially due to Krein, is based on Herglotz’s theorem on the boundary value of the analytic functions whose imaginary part is non-negative on the upper half plane, and an almost optimal class of functions are obtained for which the trace formula is valid. Also an alternative method based on Weyl-von Neumann’s theorem for self-adjoint operators, avoiding the complex function theory and inspired by Voiculescu’s work, is given for the first case. Furthermore, some applications of the spectral shift function have been discussed.     

Oxyanion derivatives of cuprate superconductors superconducting 123 phosphates

While YSr₂Cu₃O₇ cannot be prepared under ambient conditions, partial substitution of the phosphate group for copper, as in YSr₂Cu_2.8(PO₄)_0.2O_y, stabilizes this phase in the orthorhombic structure, but the material is not superconducting. Superconductivity in YSr₂Cu_2.8(PO₄)_0.2O_y is obtained by increasing the hole concentration through partial substitution of Y by Ca, as in Y_0.7Ca_0.3Sr₂Cu_2.8(PO₄)_0.2O_y (T_c≈40 K). By incorporating the phosphate group in orthorhombic YBaSrCu₃O ₇, a stable tetragonal derivative of the formula YBaSrCu_2.8(PO₄)_0.2O_y (T_c≈ 47 K) has been prepared; the T_c increases to 70 K by partial substitution of Y by Ca as in Y_0.7Ca_0.3BaSrCu_2.8(PO₄)_0.2O_y.

Particular cases of resonant tunneling in multibarrier quantum structures

An investigation was made of the resonance conditions in systems of one-dimensional potential barriers of a general kind. The types of systems are identified and the conditions determined which are necessary for observing a broad resonance in which the first three derivatives of the energy transmission coefficient are equal to zero. Rescaled mean spherical approximation structure factor for an aqueous suspension of polystyrene spheres

Rescaled mean spherical approximation (RMSA) has been used to calculate the structure factor for the aqueous suspension of polystyrene macroions with the interaction potential taken according to Derjaguin and Landau (1941) and Verwey and Overbeek (1948) (DLVO) model. The effects of charge over the macroion and size on the surface potential and therefore, the structure factor have been studied. The breakdown of the DLVO potential with an excess charge over the macroion (⩾800e) has been reported. The oscillation in the first peak height of structure factor versus wave vector curve with size has been correlated with the Debye length.     

Stress-optimal regimes for heating a piecewise-homogeneous glass shell of revolution consisting of elements of different geometric shapes

By using numerical methods we construct the solution of the problem of determining the stress-optimal regimes (by the criterion of minimizing the maximal normal stresses) for heating a piecewise-homogeneous shell consisting of a cylindrical shell and a conical shell coupled with it that is closed at the vertex. Optimal Domains for <Emphasis Type="Italic">L</Emphasis><Superscript>0</Superscript>-valued Operators Via Stochastic Measures

We study extension of operators T: E→ L⁰([0, 1]), where E is an F–function space and L⁰([0, 1]) the space of measurable functions with the topology of convergence in measure, to domains larger than E, and we study the properties of such domains. The main tool is the integration of scalar functions with respect to stochastic measures and the corresponding spaces of integrable functions.
