On Stability and Stabilizability of Singular Stochastic Systems with Delays

This paper deals with the class of continuous-time singular linear systems with Markovian jump parameters and time delays. Sufficient conditions on the stochastic stability and stochastic stabilizability are developed. A design algorithm for a state feedback controller which guarantees that the closed-loop dynamics will be regular, impulse free, and stochastically stable is proposed in terms of the solutions to linear matrix inequalities. Hausdorff continuity of approximate solution maps to parametric primal and dual equilibrium problems

In this paper, we consider parametric primal and dual equilibrium problems in locally convex Hausdorff topological vector spaces. Sufficient conditions for the approximate solution maps to be Hausdorff continuous are established. We provide many examples to illustrate the essentialness of the imposed assumptions. As applications of these results, the Hausdorff continuity of the approximate solution maps for optimization problems, variational inequalities and fixed-point problems are derived.     

Cell transfer and monomial positivity

We give combinatorial proofs that certain families of differences of products of Schur functions are monomial-positive. We show in addition that such monomial-positivity is to be expected of a large class of generating functions with combinatorial definitions similar to Schur functions. These generating functions are defined on posets with labelled Hasse diagrams and include for example generating functions of Stanley's (P,ω)-partitions. Alcoved Polytopes,I

The aim of this paper is to study alcoved polytopes, which are polytopes arising from affine Coxeter arrangements. This class of convex polytopes includes many classical polytopes, for example, the hypersimplices. We compare two constructions of triangulations of hypersimplices due to Stanley and Sturmfels and explain them in terms of alcoved polytopes. We study triangulations of alcoved polytopes, the adjacency graphs of these triangulations, and give a combinatorial formula for volumes of these polytopes. In particular, we study a class of matroid polytopes, which we call the multi-hypersimplices.     

Vertex operator algebras, extended diagram, and McKay's observation on the Monster simple group

We study McKay's observation on the Monster simple group, which relates the -involutions of the Monster simple group to the extended diagram, using the theory of vertex operator algebras (VOAs). We first consider the sublattices of the lattice obtained by removing one node from the extended diagram at each time. We then construct a certain coset (or commutant) subalgebra associated with in the lattice VOA . There are two natural conformal vectors of central charge in such that their inner product is exactly the value predicted by Conway (1985). The Griess algebra of coincides with the algebra described in his Table 3. There is a canonical automorphism of of order . Such an automorphism can be extended to the Leech lattice VOA , and it is in fact a product of two Miyamoto involutions. In the sequel (2005) to this article, the properties of will be discussed in detail. It is expected that if is actually contained in the Moonshine VOA , the product of two Miyamoto involutions is in the desired conjugacy class of the Monster simple group.

     

On orthogonal matrices with constant diagonal

In connection with the problem of finding the best projections of k-dimensional spaces embedded in n-dimensional spaces Hermann König asked: Given m∈$\text{R}$ and n∈$\text{N}$, are there n×n matrices C=(c_ij), i, j=1,…,n, such that c_ii=m for all i, |c_ij|=1 for i≠j, and C²=(m²+n?1)I_n? König was especially interested in symmetric C, and we find some families of matrices satisfying this condition. We also find some families of matrices satisfying the less restrictive condition CC^T=(m²+n?1)I_n.     

Estimating functions of canonical correlation coefficients

Let ρ²₁,…,ρ²_p be the squares of the population canonical correlation coefficients from a normal distribution. This paper is concerned with the estimation of the parameters δ₁,…,δ_p, where $\text{δ}{}_{\mathrm{i}}\text{=}\text{ρ}{}^2{}_{\mathrm{i}}\text{(1 ? ρ}{}^2{}_{\mathrm{i}}\text{)}$, i = 1,…,p, in a decision theoretic way. The approach taken is to estimate a parameter matrix Δ whose eigenvalues are δ₁,…,δ_p, given a random matrix F whose eigenvalues have the same distribution as $\text{r}{}^2{}_{\mathrm{i}}\text{(1 ? r}{}^2{}_{\mathrm{i}}\text{)}$, i = 1,…,p, where r₁,…,r_p are the sample canonical correlation coefficients.     

Absolute exponential stability criteria for a class of nonlinear time-delay systems

This paper is concerned with the problem of absolute exponential stability analysis for a class of continuous-time systems with sector-bounded nonlinearities and interval time-varying delays. Absolute exponential stability criteria, which depend not only on the delay range but also on the decay rate, are derived by using a novel Lyapunov functional. These criteria are expressed in the form of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) and they can easily be checked. By solving these LMIs, estimates of the exponential decay rate and decay coefficient are obtained. A numerical example is provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.
