Certain phytochemicals, such as the stilbene, resveratrol (RES, found in red grapes and berries), and the triterpenoid, ursolic acid (UA, found in waxy berries and herbs such as rosemary and oregano), have antioxidant, anti‐inflammatory and antiproliferative effects. Two human‐derived cell lines, hTERT‐RPE with a nonmalignant phenotype derived from retinal pigment epithelium, and ATCC CRL‐11147 derived from a malignant skin melanoma, were used as in vitro models of photooxidative stress produced by exposure to the broadband output of a 150 W Hg vapor arc lamp at an irradiance of 19–26 mW cm?2. In untreated cells, UV–VIS broadband light exposure produced a loss of proliferative ability, an activation of NF‐κB and an increase in protein carbonyl adducts at 24 h postexposure. Pretreatment of the cells with RES or UA at 1–2 μm significantly reduced the amount of phosphorylated NF ‐κB at 24 h postexposure. RES pretreatment reduced the burden of light‐induced protein carbonyl adducts by up to 25% in exposed cells. UA treatment markedly increased the sensitivity of melanoma cells to UV radiation, while conferring some photoprotection to RPE cells. These observations indicate that phytochemicals modulate the cellular response to photochemical stress by interacting with specific cell‐signaling pathways. 相似文献

We carry out a systematic study of various ground state and response properties of homonuclear diatomic molecules (from hydrogen to rubidium, including transition metals) as a function of atomic number of constituent atoms. We perform the ground state and response property calculations by using state of the art density functional theory/time dependent density functional theory. We observe that several properties of homonuclear diatomic molecules show periodic variations along rows and columns of the periodic table. The periodic variations in the ground state properties of diatomic molecules may be explained by the nature and type of the bond that exists between the constituent atoms. Similarly, the periodic variations in the response properties such as static dipole polarizability and strength of the van der Waals interaction between diatomic molecules have been correlated with the variations in metallic/nonmetallic character of the elements along the periodic table. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The capability of inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry in determining trace levels of As, Se, and Sb in cloud water
was evaluated. Preliminary studies focused on identifying and eliminating potential interferences in the cloud water matrix,
the choice of appropriate internal standards, and system optimization. The detection limits for As, Se, and Sb were 20, 100,
20 pg/mL using pneumatic nebulization, and 5, 25, 5 pg/mL, respectively, using ultrasonic nebulization with a precision of
better than 5% RSD. The accuracy was demonstrated by the analysis of a NIST commercial reference material, SRM 1643d. In all
cases, the results from ICP-MS analysis agreed within 4% of the certified values. Comparative analysis of cloud water samples
obtained from a site downwind from large pollution sources (Whiteface Mountain, New York) and Changlagali Pakistan, a rural
mountain peak, was carried out by hydride generation atomic absorption (HGAA) spectrometry. There was excellent agreement
between the ICP-MS and HGAA results.

Various glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) copolymers were synthesized by suspension polymerization, using pentaerythritol triacrylate (PETA), trimethylolpropane triacrylate (TMPTA), and trimethylolpropane trimethacrylate (TRIM) as crosslinking comonomers. These copolymers were evaluated for the immobilization of penicillin G acylase. Broad pore-size distribution that was observed was in the range 5-300 nm. Both surface area and pore volume increased with increase in the mole fraction of crosslinking comonomer (increasing crosslink density). The pore volume of the copolymers was more than doubled by including lauryl alcohol as porogen. Binding of penicillin G acylase (PGA) was quantitative on highly crosslinked copolymers. The expression of bound PGA was better on the relatively more hydrophilic GMA-TMPTA and GMA-PETA copolymer supports compared to the GMA-TRIM copolymers. Among the different copolymers studied, GMA-TMPTA copolymer 7411 exhibited highest activity of immobilized penicillin G acylase (167.4 IU/g) with 35.1% expression. 相似文献

Cloud point (CP) measurements of Tween 20 and Tween 80 were carried out in the presence of various glycol oligomers and triblock polymers (TBP). The cloud points of both Tween 20 and 80 decrease in the presence of both types of additives. Among the glycol oligomeric additives, ethylene glycol monobutyl ether was found to reduce the CP maximum. An increase in the repeating units of polymeric glycol additives leads to a decrease in CP. Reduction in the CP in the presence of TBP depends upon the increase in hydrophobic/hydrophilic ratio among the polypropylene to polyethylene units. 相似文献

These receptors have shown no affinity for other halide ions (Cl-, Br-, and I- ions). Ligands with a beta-diketone skeleton have been employed for the first time as reductant to produce ligand stabilized gold nanoparticles of different shapes from aqueous HAuCl(4) solution. Evolution of stable gold nanoparticles follows first order (k approximately equal to 10(-2) min(-1)) kinetics with respect to Au(0) concentration. Growth of particles of different shapes (spherical or triangular or hexagonal) goes hand in hand under the influence of different beta-diketones, which have excellent capping and reducing properties. The first discrete, selenium-centered tetranuclear zinc cluster [Zn4(mu4-Se)[Se2P(OPr)2]6] was isolated and characterized. The cluster consists of six edge-bridged dsep ligands with four zinc atoms in a slightly distorted tetrahedron and a mu4-Se atom in the center. In addition, 12 mu2-bridging selenium atoms form a Se12 icosahedron. From variable-temperature 31P NMR studies, it was observed that the cluster [Zn4(Se)[Se2P(OPr)2]6] is partly decomposed to [Zn[Se2P(OPr)2]2] and the monomeric species [Zn[Se2P(OPr)2]2] is further in equilibrium with its dimer [Zn[Se2P(OPr)2]2]2. 相似文献
