DPOAE input/output (I/O) functions were measured at 7f2 frequencies (1 to 8 kHz; f2/f1 = 1.22) over a range of levels (-5 to 95 dB SPL) in normal-hearing and hearing-impaired human ears. L1-L2 was level dependent in order to produce the largest 2f1-f2 responses in normal ears. System distortion was determined by collecting DP data in six different acoustic cavities. These data were used to derive a multiple linear regression model to predict system distortion levels. The model was tested on cochlear-implant users and used to estimate system distortion in all other ears. At most but not all f2's, measurements in cochlear implant ears were consistent with model predictions. At all f2 frequencies, the ears with normal auditory thresholds produced I/O functions characterized by compressive nonlinear regions at moderate levels, with more rapid growth at low and high stimulus levels. As auditory threshold increased, DPOAE threshold increased, accompanied by DPOAE amplitude reductions, notably over the range of levels where normal ears showed compression. The slope of the I/O function was steeper in impaired ears. The data from normal-hearing ears resembled direct measurements of basilar membrane displacement in lower animals. Data from ears with hearing loss showed that the compressive region was affected by cochlear damage; however, responses at high levels of stimulation resembled those observed in normal ears.  相似文献

The interaction of an intense short pulse laser (>5×10 18 Wcm-2) with underdense plasma was extensively studied. The beam is found to be highly susceptible to the forward Raman scattering instability. At sufficiently high growth rates, this can lead to wavebreaking with the resultant production of a high flux of accelerated electrons (>1011 for E>2 MeV). Some electrons are found to be accelerated well above the dephasing energy, up to 94 MeV. Self-scattered images intimate the presence of high-intensity channels that extend more than 3.5 mm or 12 Rayleigh lengths. These filaments do not follow the axis of laser propagation, but are seen to be emitted within an f4 cone centered around this axis. Spectra of the self-scattered light show that the main contribution of the scattering is not from light captured within these filaments. But there is evidence for self-phase modulation from effects such as ionization and relativistic self-focusing. However, no clear correlation is observed between channel length and the number or energies of accelerated electrons. Evidence for high intensities within the channels is given by small-angle Thomson scattering of the plasma wave generated therein, with this method, the intensity is found to be of the order of 1018 Wcm-2 greater than 12 Rayleigh lengths from focus  相似文献

The possibility of using high-intensity laser-produced plasmas as a source of energetic ions for heavy ion accelerators is addressed. Experiments have shown that neon ions greater than 6 MeV can be produced from gas jet plasmas, and well-collimated proton beams greater than 20 MeV have been produced from high intensity laser solid interactions. The proton beams from the back of thin targets appear to be more collimated and reproducible than are high-energy ions generated in the ablated plasma at the front of the target and may be more suitable for ion injection applications. Two methods to experimentally investigate supersonic ground effect problems in a wind tunnel have been examined to determine their relative effectiveness compared to a more realistic, but physically unfeasible, representation of the ground effect by means of a moving ground. Experimental data were compared with the results of numerical simulations. The latter, once validated against pressure data from the wind tunnel, confirmed that generally a symmetry technique is more suitable than an elevated ground approach.  相似文献

The potential benefits of a semi-active magnetorheological (MR) damper in reducing the incidence and severity of end-stop impacts of a low natural frequency suspension seat are investigated. The MR damper considered is a commercially developed product, referred to as “Motion Master semi-active damping system” and manufactured by Lord Corporation. The end-stop impact and vibration attenuation performance of a seat equipped with such a damper are evaluated and compared with those of the same seat incorporating a conventional damper. The evaluation is performed on a servo-hydraulic vibration exciter by subjecting the seat-damper combinations to a transient excitation with dominant frequency close to that of the seat and continuous random excitation class EM1 applicable to earth-moving machinery, and a more severe excitation realized by amplifying the EM1 excitation by 150%. Tests are performed for medium and firm settings of the MR damper and for seat height positions corresponding to mid-ride and ±2·54 and ±5·08 cm relative to mid-ride. The results indicate that significantly higher levels of transient excitation are necessary to induce end-stop impacts for the seat equipped with the MR damper, particularly when set for firm damping, the difference with the conventional damper being more pronounced for seat positions closer to the end-stops. Under the EM1 excitation, the results indicate that under conditions which would otherwise favour the occurrence of end-stop impacts for a seat equipped with a conventional damper, the use of the MR damper can result in considerably less severe impacts and correspondingly lower vibration exposure levels, particularly when positioned closer to its compression or rebound limit stop.  相似文献

Semiempirical SCFMO computations of the MNDO and AM1 varieties have been employed to model possible interaction processes for cocaine with the biological substrate glycine. It was found for the gas-phase species that the most likely interactions occurred as nucleophilic attack of the nitrogen lone pair of glycine on the two carbonyl groups of cocaine. These reactions led to intermediates which further decomposed exothermically to amide and alcohol species. The activation enthalpies for the gas-phase reactions were predicted to be high (39–46 kcal/mol), but it is believed that such processes could possibly occur by reaction pathways with considerably lower activation energies in the liquid state in the presence of mucus containing olfactory binding protein in vertebrate olfactory reception.  相似文献

This report describes the extent to which ear-canal acoustic admittance and energy reflectance (YR) in human neonates (1) predict otoacoustic emission (OAE) levels and auditory brainstem response (ABR) latencies, and (2) classify OAE and ABR responses as present or absent. Analyses are reported on a subset of ears in which hearing screening measurements were obtained previously [Norton et al., Ear. Hear. 21, 348-356 (2000a)]. Tests on 1405 ears included YR, distortion-product OAEs, transient-evoked OAEs, and ABR. Principal components analysis reduced the 33 YR variables to 5-7 factors. OAE levels decreased and ABR latencies increased with increasing high-frequency energy reflectance. Up to 28% of the variance in OAE levels and 12% of the variance in ABR wave-V latencies were explained by these factors. Thus, the YR response indirectly encodes information on inter-ear variations in forward and reverse middle-ear transmission. The YR factors classify OAEs with an area under the relative operating characteristic (ROC) curve as high as 0.79, suggesting that middle-ear dysfunction is partly responsible for the inability to record OAEs in some ears. The YR factors classified ABR responses less well, with ROC areas of 0.64 for predicting wave-V latency and 0.56 for predicting Fsp.  相似文献
