Boron-Thioketonates: A New Class of S,O-Chelated Boranes as Acceptors in Optoelectronic Devices

Development of new n-type semiconductors with tunable band gap and dielectric constant has significant implication in dissociating bound charge carrier relevant for demonstrating high performance optoelectronic devices. Boron-β-thioketonates (MTDKB), analogues to boron-β-diketonates containing a sulfur atom in the framework of β-diketones were synthesized. Bulk transport measurement exhibited an outstanding bulk electron mobility of ≈0.003 cm² V⁻¹ s⁻¹, which is among the best values reported till date in these class of semiconducting materials and correspondingly a single junction photo responsivity of upto 6 mA W⁻¹ was obtained. This new family of O,S-chelated boron compounds exhibited luminescence in the far red/near-infrared region. The remarkable red shift of 89 nm (fluorescence) observed for 4 a in comparison with analogues boron-β-diketonate signifies the importance of sulfur in these molecules. MTDKBs with amine functionality have also been investigated as an ON/OFF fluorescent sensor.     

A characterization based on the equidistribution of the first two spacings of record values

Summary For a sequence {X _n:n=0, 1, 2,...} of i.i.d. discrete random variables let X ₀ denote the zeroeth record value and X _L(1), the first record value. It is shown that X ₀ and X _L(1) –X ₀ are identically distributed if and only if X ₀ has the geometric distribution over the lattice k :k=1, 2,... for some >0.     

Working group report: Neutrino and astroparticle physics

This is the report of neutrino and astroparticle physics working group at WHEPP-7. Discussions and work on CP violation in long baseline neutrino experiments, ultra high energy neutrinos, supernova neutrinos and water Cerenkov detectors are discussed.     

Λ b →Λ c +a 1 decay in the heavy quark effective theory

Using the heavy quark approximation, we have studied the nonleptonic decay mode Λ _b →Λ _c a ₁. We have included nonfactorizable contributions as well as factorizable ones in our analysis. The estimated branching ratio for this process is (1.4±0.1)% and the asymmetry parameter α found to be −0.8.     

Confinement of slave particles in U(1) gauge theories of strongly interacting electrons

We show that slave particles are always confined in U(1) gauge theories of interacting electron systems. Consequently, the low-lying degrees of freedom are different from the slave particles. This is done by constructing a dual formulation of the slave-particle representation in which the no-double-occupancy constraint becomes linear and, hence, soluble. Spin-charge separation, if it occurs, is due to the existence of solitons with fractional quantum numbers in a particular dual action.     

Gyroscopic Precession and Inertial Forces in Axially Symmetric Stationary Spacetimes

We study the phenomenon of gyroscopic precession and the analogues of inertial forces within the framework of general relativity. Covariant connections between the two are established for circular orbits in stationary spacetimes with axial symmetry. Specializing to static spacetimes, we prove that gyroscopic precession and centrifugal force both reverse at the photon orbits. Simultaneous non-reversal of these in the case of stationary spacetimes is discussed. Further insight is gained in the case of static spacetime by considering the phenomena in a spacetime conformal to the original one. Gravi-electric and gravi-magnetic fields are studied and their relation to inertial forces is established.
