Investigation of the properties of weakly reflective metamaterials with compensated chirality

The properties of an artificial anisotropic structure formed by microhelices have been numerically simulated by the example of a specially designed sample. The sample contains paired helices with right- and left-handed twisting directions, due to which the metamaterial chirality is compensated for. Helices are characterized by precalculated optimal parameters; as a result, the permittivity and permeability of metamaterial are approximately equal. Therefore, the wave impedance of the structure is close to the impedance of free space in the frequency range near 2 THz and the reflection of normally incident electromagnetic waves is weak. A boundary problem is solved and an analytical expression is obtained for the reflection and transmission coefficients of an electromagnetic wave passing through the structure. The simulated properties of the structure are compared with experimental results.     

Reaction of rhodium trichloride and dirhodium(II) acetate with <Emphasis Type="Italic">trans</Emphasis>-4,4′-bis(diethoxyphosphoryl)biphenyl-18-crown-6

The complexation of RhCl₃·3H₂O and [RH₂(CH₃COO)₄·2H₂O] with trans-4,4′-bis (diethoxyphosphoryl)biphenyl-18-crown-6 in various media was studied. In the synthesized compounds the rhodium(III) or dirodium(II) ions form supramolecular ensembles with ligand environment. The compounds were characterized by NMR, IR, Raman, ESR, X-ray electron spectroscopy, conductivity, and the data of elemental and X-ray fluorescence analyses. The predominant role of diethoxyphosphoryl groups at the macrocycle in binding rhodium(III) and dirhodium(II) ions was demonstrated.     

Synthesis and crystal structures of supramolecular compounds of polynuclear aluminum(III) aqua hydroxo complexes with cucurbit[6]uril

Supramolecular compounds of the di-, trideca-, and triacontanuclear aluminum aqua hydroxo complexes, viz., [Al₂(OH)₂(H₂O)₈]⁴⁺, [Al₁₂(AlO₄)(OH)₂₄(H₂O)₁₂]⁷⁺, and [Al₃₀O₈(OH)₅₆(H₂O)₂₆]¹⁸⁺, respectively, with the organic macrocyclic cavitand cucurbit[6]uril (C₃₆H₃₆N₂₄O₁₂) were prepared by evaporation of aqueous solutions of aluminum nitrate and cucurbit[6]uril after the addition of pyridine, ammonia, KOH, or NaOH at pH 3.1–3.8. X-ray diffraction study demonstrated that the aqua hydroxo complexes are linked to the macrocycle through hydrogen bonds between the hydroxo and aqua ligands of the polycations and the portal oxygen atoms of cucurbit[6]uril. New compounds for cold impregnation of winding products

Elastic cold-curing compounds developed for the impregnation of winding products with ferrite elements based on low-viscosity epoxy compositions containing Laproxide products as diluents are presented. It is shown that the processing and operational properties of the EPK-24 series compounds and the PK-34 compound allow them to be used to impregnate the winding products of electronic and radio-technical equipment, in particular toroid- and toroidal-shaped power transformers.     

The alkali hypophosphites KH2PO2, RbH2PO2 and CsH2PO2

The structures of the hypophosphites KH₂PO₂ (potassium hypophosphite), RbH₂PO₂ (rubidium hypophosphite) and CsH₂PO₂ (caesium hypophosphite) have been determined by single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction. The structures consist of layers of alkali cations and hypophosphite anions, with the latter bridging four cations within the same layer. The Rb and Cs hypophosphites are isomorphous.     

Measurement of the extraordinary refractive index dispersion in the MIR for Mg:Nd:LiNbO3 crystals by the use of quasi-phase-matching in a random 1D domain structure

We present a method of measurement of the extraordinary refractive index dispersion in MIR for periodically and aperiodically poled nonlinear crystals with unknown or uncertain periods. The method is based on the spontaneous parametric down-conversion and is useful for the crystals with domain structure formed directly in the process of growth by Czochralski technique. As an example we measure the extraordinary refractive index of in-growth poled 2 mol% Mg and 1 mol% Nd doped congruent lithium niobate and present the corresponding Sellmeier equation in the range of 0.4–3.6 μm.     

The bivalent metal hypophosphites Sr(H2PO2)2, Pb(H2PO2)2 and Ba(H2PO2)2

The structures of isomorphous monoclinic strontium and lead bis­(di­hydrogenphosphate), Sr(H₂PO₂)₂ and Pb(H₂PO₂)₂, and orthorhombic barium bis­(di­hydrogen­phos­phate), Ba(H₂PO₂)₂, consist of layers of hypophosphite anions and metal cations exhibiting square antiprismatic coordination by O atoms. The Sr and Pb atoms are located on sites with point symmetry 2, and the Ba atoms are on sites with point symmetry 222. Within the layers, each anion bridges four metal cations.
