Bailey type summation formulas associated with the root system $G_{2}^{\vee}$

We present three types of summation formulas for the root system G₂^úG_{2}^{\vee}, which are generalized from Bailey’s summation formula for a very-well-poised balanced ₆ ψ ₆ basic hypergeometric series.     

Peroxidase activity of cationic metalloporphyrin-antibody complexes

Peroxidase activity of a complex of water-soluble cationic metalloporphyrin with anti-cationic porphyrin antibody is reported. Antibody 12E11G, which was prepared by immunization with a conjugate of 5-(4-carboxyphenyl)-10,15,20-tris(4-methylpyridyl)porphine iodide (3MPy1C), bound to tetramethylpyridylporphyrin iron complex (FeIII-TMPyP) with the dissociation constant of 2.6 x 10(-7) M. The complex of antibody 12E11G with FeIII-TMPyP catalyzed oxidation of pyrogallol, catechol, and guaiacol. A Lineweaver-Burk plot for the oxidation of pyrogallol catalyzed by the FeIII-TMPyP-antibody complex showed Km=8.6 mM and kcat=680 min(-1). Under the same conditions, Km and kcat for horseradish peroxidase (HRP) were 0.8 mM and 1750 min(-1), respectively. Although the binding interaction of the antibody to the substrates was one order lower than that of native HRP, the peroxidase activity of this system was in the same order of magnitude as that of HRP.     

A sensitive two-phase titration of anionic surfactants with a dilute tetraphenylphosphonium chloride solution

A visual indicator method is described for titrations of anionic surfactants with 5 × 10^-5 M tetraphenylphosphonium solution. Two dyes, the hydrophilic neutral red and the hydrophobic tetrabromophenolphthalein ethyl ester, are used as indicator in the presence of 1,2-dichloroethane.     

Copper(I) tert-butoxide-promoted 1,4 C sp 2-to-O silyl migration: generation of vinyl copper equivalents and their stereospecific cross-coupling with allylic,aryl, and vinylic halides

Successive treatment of the (Z)-gamma-trimethylsilyl allylic alcohols with copper(I) tert-butoxide and allylic halides followed by the tetrabutylammonium fluoride-assisted hydrolysis produced the allylation products, 2,5-alkadien-1-ols, with complete retention of configuration. Similar treatment of the organometallic intermediates with aryl and vinylic halides in the presence of palladium(0) catalyst gave the corresponding cross-coupling products in good yields. The stereoselective preparation of the starting materials is also described.     

Formation of titanacyclobutenes with a spiro-bonded cyclopropane

The reaction of titanium cyclopropylidene complexes, prepared by the reductive titanation of 7,7-dichlorobicyclo[4.1.0]heptanes, with alkynes produced air and moisture stable titanacyclobutenes with a spiro-bonded cyclopropane.     

Titanocene(II)-promoted stereoselective alkenylation utilizing (Z)-alkenyl sulfones

The stereoselective alkenylation of unsaturated compounds by means of a (Z)-alkenyl sulfone-titanocene(II) system is described. Treatment of alkynes and (Z)-alkenyl methyl sulfones with the titanocene(II) reagent Cp2Ti[P(OEt)3]2 produced conjugated dienes. This alkenylation system is also applicable to polar C=O bonds; the simple mixing of carbonyl compounds, (Z)-alkenyl methyl sulfones, and the titanocene(II) reagent formed allylic alcohols. The advantages of alkenylation are that it requires no prepreparation of the alkenylmetal reagent and that it proceeds with complete stereoselectivity.     

Highly diastereoselective addition of allyltitanocenes to α-chiral ketones

The addition of allyltitanium reagents, generated by the desulfurizative titanation of allylic sulfides with the titanocene(II) reagent Cp₂Ti−1-butene, to α-chiral ketones produced tertiary homoallylic alcohols bearing three adjacent chiral centers with high diastereoselectivity.     

Interaction of high Mach-number shocks in laser-produced plasmas

We report the laboratory experiment for high Mach-number collisionless shock formation and for studying the interaction of them. These shocks are formed in high-velocity counterstreaming plasmas produced by ablating a double-foil plastic target with a high-power laser. The laser-produced plasmas are diagnosed with space and time-resolved optical pyrometry and shadowgraphy. Multiple shocks are formed and interact with each other, resulting in the increase of plasma temperature and density.     

Pulse shaping and its characterization of mid-infrared femtosecond pulses: Toward coherent control of molecules in the ground electronic states

We have examined a technique of complex shaping of mid-infrared femtosecond laser pulses towards accurate and precise control of rovibrational wave packets of molecules in the ground electronic state. A Germanium acousto-optics modulator was used as a device for the pulse shaping. In order to characterize the shaped pulses precisely, sum-frequency cross-correlation frequency-resolved optical gating was introduced for the analysis of both amplitude and phase of the electric fields. The mid-infrared pulses were shaped and characterized with a frequency resolution better than 4.5 cm⁻¹. Such a resolution is supposed to be sufficient for the realization of quantum gate operations with high fidelity, which is one of the most challenging applications of rovibrational wave packet manipulation of molecules. In order to demonstrate the precision of our method of shaping and its characterization, we have generated shaped pulses that will realize Hadamard and NOT quantum gates with rovibrational states of a CO molecule.
